(0) Pinnawala, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka pinnawela is best known for the elephant orphanage housed here; about an hour and a half by road from kandy, it is easily reached by bus or a taxi. the elephant bath at 4pm is what attracts most attention, tourists can sit overlooking the river as the elephants frolic in the water, a tip to the mahout will ensure you can pet one of the more docile of the bunch Good tip? (0) Kitulgala, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka I stayed at the River resot which was amazing. you get to watch the river run past as your in the pool or hanging out in the lounge.
The white water rafting is only a few minutes away and the scenery on the way down was mind-blowing. I dont think you'll ever see so much untoched rainforest ever again Good tip? (0) Pinnawala, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka Amazing palce to visit...The Elephant Orphanage is a must see...arrive before 10am or 4pm to wash the elephants bathe in a local river... Good tip? (0) Pinnawala, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is a great place to visit and a good place to support as they rescue and look after injured and orphaned elephants. You can get up really close to the elephants and watch them being fed. Do be careful though as you're effectively allowed to just wander amongst the elephants and there have been accidents in the past. Don't get too close, and don't walk between elephants (especially not between a mother baby) or you're asking for trouble. Later in the day the bathing in the river takes place which is fun to watch. There is a restaurant over-looking the river that serves good food and is an ideal vantage point (sadly I can't remember the name of it!) Good tip? (0) Pinnawala, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka The Elephant Orphanage at Pinnewala is a great spot to visit. Time your visit for when they're bathing and/or feeding for the best experience. Good tip?
