The Tuk-tuk drivers over-charge and are fairly crazy drivers, and always go to Majestic City for shopping it has the largest amount of CD/DVD shops that i could find there. For the real deal, go to ODEL, which is great for gettign small gifts

Getting around by a three wheeler or tuk-tuk is most convenient. They however do not have any meters fitted with them so you have to always negotiate and agree on a price before you take the trip. Look and flag down at least three or four three-wheelers before you settle down on a price.

If you go to Colombo from the airport you can choose taxi (Which I don't know how much is) or airport shuttle bus which is free and will take you to the bus stop from where you can take a bus to both - Colombo and Kandy (second one costs 140)
