Hikkaduwa, Southern Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka
A rather touristic little city. Skip the all-inclusive buffet and eat in one of the small local restaurants – you'll be surprised at the high quality of the tasty Sri Lankan food!
At the beach in Hikkaduwa you can observe sea turtles feeding in the afternoon.
If you want to get around, a tuktuk is the vehicle of choice. Ask the driver about prices and possibilities. Most of the tutktuk drivers make great travel guides and will take you to places worth seeing.

The Tuk-tuk drivers over-charge and are fairly crazy drivers, and always go to Majestic City for shopping it has the largest amount of CD/DVD shops that i could find there. For the real deal, go to ODEL, which is great for gettign small gifts

    Sri Lanka
It's very easy to travel by public bus in Sri Lanka, and it's the cheapest way. Although they drive with their doors open, and barely stop for the locals to get in, it's a great oportunity to see real sri lankans doing their daily business.

    Sri Lanka
It's very cheap to get to Sri Lanka from Europe (or at least from Istanbul, Turkey). Two low cost airlines operate from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport located in the asian side of Istanbul, to Colombo Airport. One is fly dubai, and has a stop at Dubai Airport, and the other one is Air Arabia, with a stop at Sharjah Airport. www.flydubai.com www.airarabia.com

Polonnaruwa, North Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka
What's nice about Polonnaruwa is that the ruins are in one compact area so you can visit them quite easily. Just one three wheeler ride from where you're staying to the entrance and you can walk about them all day long. Bicycles however are the best way to get around. Most guest houses will rent out bicycles, but be sure of the condition when you pick it up. Check if the tires are properly inflated.

Galle, Southern Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka
The train and bus stations are next to each other near. There is a Food City supermarket just in front of the bus station where you can stock up on snacks if you have a long journey ahead. There are only two Internet shops outside of the fort, both near the bus and train stations.

Colombo, Western Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka
Getting around by a three wheeler or tuk-tuk is most convenient. They however do not have any meters fitted with them so you have to always negotiate and agree on a price before you take the trip. Look and flag down at least three or four three-wheelers before you settle down on a price.
