Go on a boat ride on Lake Zurich. It's worth it. Bike riding is also a great way to see the city and the lake. For cheap but clean places to stay, try a hostel; if that's not your cup of tea, hotels abound. There are also cheap yet clean campgrounds where one can pitch a tent and "rough it out". There's tons of shopping, food, chocolate, history, a huge weekly market at the main train station, etc. etc. etc. I love it and can't wait to go back.

If you go to Zurich dont miss to take trip to Üetliberg, a small house-hill of Zurich City. From the top of Üetliberg you'll get a wonderful view of the whole city of Zurich.

Also, to get a nice overview of the city but in a closer perspective, there's a kind of square in front of the university headquarters overlooking the city. It's also beautiful if you visit it at night, and Zurich is a safe place, so go for it!
