Go on a boat ride on Lake Zurich. It's worth it. Bike riding is also a great way to see the city and the lake. For cheap but clean places to stay, try a hostel; if that's not your cup of tea, hotels abound. There are also cheap yet clean campgrounds where one can pitch a tent and "rough it out". There's tons of shopping, food, chocolate, history, a huge weekly market at the main train station, etc. etc. etc. I love it and can't wait to go back.

Use trams to get around in Zurich. They are on time, efficient and affordable. The timetables and route maps are easy to use.

The public transportation system is very efficient, along with the street rail cars there are many buses and taxi's are always readily available

The Public Transport System is just Great in Zurich. You can even take your pets and your bikes (Bycycles) in the train.

The tram is the best way to go from one place to the other in Zurich. Never rent a car! its a disaster.
