Bets hotels, rude personnel. try to avoid night time activities outside the accommodation since the city might be dangerous.

When in Sousse, try to get a hotel in Port el Kantaui. A bit less oriental, a bit more Mediterranean-style. Great marina, nice restaurants and bars. Don't miss a local delicacy - roasted almonds with sugar and cocoa! They sell it in the street, it's cheap and delicious!!! Taxi to the Sousse market (city centre) is cheap and accessible from almost everywhere, so you don't have to be stationed there to fully enjoy it.
