Fair mix of big town facilities (restaurants, bars and shops) and small town benefits (rural pubs). Easy to access with good transport links from London and Stansted airport.

Outside Chelmsford you find the Hylands Park, where 2007 the 21st World Scout Jamboree took place. It's worth also to visit the Hylands House in the middle of the park.

One of the cheapest places to get good quality food is The Ivory Peg. You can get a decent meal at a reasonable price, and children are allowed until 8pm. Also there are often deals on meals. The only downside is that you have to be 18 to go to the bar to order food and drink, even if it's non-alcoholic.

It's also a great meeting point to start the evening, with drinks at very reasonable prices. It's often packed with the locals who know a good place to go, and people from other areas of Essex.
