When visiting the Minster (a beautiful church, by the way) you have to climb the steps in the main tower. 278 steps to the top, and you can have a certificate completed to prove you did it. Totally worth the climb (besides bragging rights) for the great view of the city.

Something well worth doing in York is staying at a BandB (there is no other accomodation like it) and going on a ghost tour. They are not scary but really funny. Ask your landlord at the BandB for advice on the best one and they will book one for you. You won't regret it

Go to the Jarvik museum. It is great to see life back in the olden days, it even smells like the olden days!!!! Never been to another museum quite like it! Well worth the visit.

The old medieval centre of the town is really wonderful to see... Moreover, lots of fish chips around so if you're hungry...

You can't go to York without looking into its reputation as the most haunted city in the UK. The Dungeon and the Ghost walks are great - as long as you do it all with your tongue firmly in your cheek!!

The York Minster is obviously a must-see. The Jorvik Viking Centre is also worth a visit.
