(0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom when you visit Glasgow, go to the west end of the city, a street called ashton lane, full of cool quirky pubs ! worth the effort. Good tip? (0) Partick, Scotland, United Kingdom Got a combined subway and railway station. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Stay at the Spires on Bothwell Street and shop on Sauchiehall Street Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom watch yi dinnae get yer jaw ripped aff Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Eat at Best Kebab at the end of the bridge just outside Queen Street train-station. Yum! Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Glasgow is a battle-scarred yet delightful and compact city that is easy to explore. The city is basically on a grid and a good map will get one around quite fine.
Take a 2 hour guided bus tour of the city; it was only 9 Scottish pounds sterling. Transportation is very cheap.... so cheap that I only used taxis while there. Their public transportation system is nice and clean. British and Scottish pounds can be used interchangeably; the Royal Bank of Scotland and HSBC are major banks there. Everything is cheaper in Scotland than in England (especially London).
Stay at any hotel EXCEPT the Alexander Thomson hotel . It is the most disgusting hotel I've ever stayed at in my entire life. The Holiday Inn Glasgow, where I switched to after leaving that horrible hotel, is pricey but worth the money.
For good comedy, go to The Stand. In addition, mid-October to mid-November is Glasgay, the month for lesbians and gays. The Scottish in general are a feisty yet delightful and funny bunch. And boy can they drink.
Women, be careful going outside alone at night. A drunk man tried to accost me in front of a restaurant right next to the disgusting hotel. (I wound up having to dodge inside the restaurant and ate, much to my chagrin. Didn't want to spend extra money. But the food was good - Thai Orchid restaurant.)
I'd love to return to Glasgow and hopefully get to Edinburgh while there. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom It's the best to see it at night! And it's really easy to travel around the city by bus or taxi. I met a great staff in the hostel (Berkeley Street). A lot of places to have a great time and spend money ;-) May be dangerous at night in the suburbs. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Even when it looks as if it wont rain for weeks always take a waterproof jacket and an umbrella Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom A really interesting city, especially if you like modern music art, there are lots of museums about that. Also the people there are really kind helpfull I don't know how but they have something special when you're talking to them but is something positive. You can visit some old tenement houses, something special to Glasgow, in ther some eldery women can tell really interesting story's about how the live was earlier in the last century.
If you're in Schotland, try to visit but I have one tip: If you are travelling to scotland and you want to visit Glasgow in one day: prepare what you want to see, there is also a lot to see just outside the city centre. Good tip? (0) |
