Travel Tips - TransportationGlasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Get to the airport early...because it's huge and each terminal is a few miles away from each other. There are buses that go to and from both but it's always good to give yourself time Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Be aware of your meals at night time! Most of the restaurants work with apointments, so it is very hard to get into a good restaurant. Ther is one very good one, more Tapas style, the name is something with florantina... I will look it up and add it later! It is a blue restaurant, with a bit of white, nearby a busstop.
We will not suggest the Euro-hotel. It is a bit durty, you don't get the things you pay for, there is not a lot to do, and at night time the room downstairs is a pub... If you are with more than 3 people the towels are not included... If you just stop by, and only be there one night you might can stand it. Breakfast is ok.
It is a very alive city with a lot of pubs and nightclubs.
Easily get lost... there are things to see, but we didn't found them!
Walking is the best way to get around, you can also go by bus, but it cost money that you can save by walking, that way you also see more. Busses are ok, and the prices are fine Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom There is a nice airport that we flew out of there. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom It is really funny to go by the Underground there, it was only as tall as I am. Cute. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Take a taxi in Glasgow, or prepare to walk for miles...the buses are terrible, and all operate out of a central hub which doesn't actually go anywhere interesting. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom ci sono stato x sbaglio.. credevo di essere ad edinburgo... sono arrivato con megabus da dundee solo costo: 1 sterlina! Good tip? (0) Partick, Scotland, United Kingdom Got a combined subway and railway station. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom Glasgow is a battle-scarred yet delightful and compact city that is easy to explore. The city is basically on a grid and a good map will get one around quite fine.
Take a 2 hour guided bus tour of the city; it was only 9 Scottish pounds sterling. Transportation is very cheap.... so cheap that I only used taxis while there. Their public transportation system is nice and clean. British and Scottish pounds can be used interchangeably; the Royal Bank of Scotland and HSBC are major banks there. Everything is cheaper in Scotland than in England (especially London).
Stay at any hotel EXCEPT the Alexander Thomson hotel . It is the most disgusting hotel I've ever stayed at in my entire life. The Holiday Inn Glasgow, where I switched to after leaving that horrible hotel, is pricey but worth the money.
For good comedy, go to The Stand. In addition, mid-October to mid-November is Glasgay, the month for lesbians and gays. The Scottish in general are a feisty yet delightful and funny bunch. And boy can they drink.
Women, be careful going outside alone at night. A drunk man tried to accost me in front of a restaurant right next to the disgusting hotel. (I wound up having to dodge inside the restaurant and ate, much to my chagrin. Didn't want to spend extra money. But the food was good - Thai Orchid restaurant.)
I'd love to return to Glasgow and hopefully get to Edinburgh while there. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom It's the best to see it at night! And it's really easy to travel around the city by bus or taxi. I met a great staff in the hostel (Berkeley Street). A lot of places to have a great time and spend money ;-) May be dangerous at night in the suburbs. Good tip? (0) Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom A really interesting city, especially if you like modern music art, there are lots of museums about that. Also the people there are really kind helpfull I don't know how but they have something special when you're talking to them but is something positive. You can visit some old tenement houses, something special to Glasgow, in ther some eldery women can tell really interesting story's about how the live was earlier in the last century.
If you're in Schotland, try to visit but I have one tip: If you are travelling to scotland and you want to visit Glasgow in one day: prepare what you want to see, there is also a lot to see just outside the city centre. Good tip? (0) |
