Worth a visit just so you think sing the Dylan tune, "Oh, momma, can this really be the end, to be stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again!"

Gulf Shores has some nice beaches!

Mobile is the last largest city in Alabama. Also the prettiest in my opinion. Its the cleanest and safest with very beautiful suburbs, like loxley, foley, spanish fort, and daphne. The style is very southern and charming. The people there are the nicest i've come across in all the places i've been to in the world. They are classy, sweet, and super friendly. Mobile hotels are not cheap, but the further into the suburbs you go the cheaper the rates. Mobile offers a huge navy ship that is located in mobile bay, which you can see from the highway. I believe it's called battlefield park. I never got a chance to go on the ship but it is free to whomever wants to check it out. Mobile was hit by hurricane katrina which you can still see some remenants from the storm. The mobile highway which stretches from the city to the suburbs over the bay was knocked over into the water and had to be rebuilt. You can still see boats sitting in odd places, stuck in marshy waters, as well as hotel buildings with the windows and everything inside blown away, so all you see is the structure itself. Mobile and the surrounding area offer very good food. The best buffet food i've ever eaten was at a place called ryan's. Its $10 a plate all you can eat with the freshest food and yummy southern recipes. To live in the mobile area is also very cheap. you can rent a house for 700, but thats out in the suburbs of say loxely or foley. The area is very close to gulf shores which sits right on the gulf of mexico. To get there is about 40 minutes, but the beaches there are beautiful and when its on season its busy busy and not cheap. it's definitely a tourtist destination. gulf shores is also 20 mins from pensacola.

Mobile is FULL of history and beauty. Cathedrals, forts, the river and bay are all places that you just HAVE to see. We stayed at the Battle House Hotel and we could not have been more satisfied. Each room was equiped with amazing bathrooms. The food is great downtown. It's like a mini New Orleans, except it is SO much more clean. All the locals are friendly and are more than happy to help you find your way.

Bellingrath Gardens is a must if you are visiting or just passing through Mobile. Also a must see is the Battleship Memorial Park which is home to the USS Alabama located on historic Mobile Bay. During the spring, Mobile is famous for their beautiful Azaleas in full bloom!

The retired carrier ship and airplanes are great for young boys (and old ones too). It makes for a very interesting history lesson.
