Dont plan on being there more then 1 day, its a small but really good looking town - old Russian style. Dont bring way too warm clothes to Alaska, its not that cold there during the summer/

Pretty quiet city, easy to forget that it is the capital city of Alaska. Nice scenery though.

In Juneau, Alaska the Thane Road is a wonderful day drive... I can still remember driving down the road with channel between Juneau and Douglas Island glimmering from the sunlight and the rows of alpine trees! Its a great picnic day road trip..

Juneau, oh my Juneau - this is where I am originally from (though I was born in Petersburg)... My personal recommendations are the following: 1. Trek both Mt. Juneau and Roberts
2. Drive out to Thane Rd for a day picnic with some friends
3. Visit the Red Dog Saloon in the evenings for great local times
4. Visit the Alaskan Brewery!!!
5. Go out to Mendenhal Glacier for a day hike
6. Split the cost of a helicopter and fly to the mountain glaciers
7. Buy a ticket to take a pontoon plane up to the mountain lodges and have great BBQs... 8. and last but not least!!! GO TO THE SALMON BAKE!!!!!!!! Go with an empty stomach and spend the whole day out there!!!! This is a MUST

Go to the beach or Eagle Crest (ski resort) The mountain trekking on this island is moderately challenging and when you get to the top of a larger mountain you get the most amazing view!!! you can see the main land to your right with a channel inbetween and if you turn your head the other way... well... you see the ocean and many more islands in the distant view! When I did this I was shocked and amazed, I never knew such a view existed!

Apparently, Juneau has the largest city limits in all of USA.

Check-out Triangle Bar, local hangout with superb staff! Right in the city center. Only snacks but well stocked bar!

you must never forget warm clothes, comfortable shoes, binoculars, have a special love to nature and wildlife and ofcourse like to eat salmon.
