If you're fairly open-minded you may enjoy a visit to SF's Castro district, the gay capital of the West Coast.  Better yet, bring an unsuspecting friend along and watch him or her get confused at seeing restaurants and bars full of nothing but men.  Admire the rainbow banners and the public service posters of shirtless guys reminding passerby to get tested for syphillis.  Visit the Hot Cookie bakery for pastries you won't find in your hometown.

Pittsburg Pub on Judah is a nice place to catch a drink near the shore. Bakery/cafe on corner of Judah Great Hwy(at the Muni turnaround) has excellent croissants and is dog friendly.

The most colourful city in California

You must visit the "Stinking Rose" while there... Everything garlic !  It is GREAT !

Must visit Haight Street ( and if you do, ensure to buy a tie die tshirt)

While in Chinatown, look around first and see which place has the most Asians versus tourists. Its a guarantee that you'll find the best Chinese food.
