If you drive a car into San Francisco, be prepared to either parallel park or pay a premium for a lot.

For parallel parking, you may have to do so on a very steep hill so prepare yourself! For lots, expect to pay about $5-10 for a couple hours, $25 and up for overnight in private lots, and around $50 per night even when you are a guest at a major hotel.

Don't drive anywhere.

Look for a hotel on Lombard Street and than take the Cable Car to get around.
Fall is a good season to travel to Frisco.... there won't be as much fog as in June for example.

I'm sure everybody's familiar with the lovely and scenic city by the bay, or Fogtown... the coldest winter is its summer etc.... actually summer time is quite an exciting place, around end of June we will have the country's biggest gay parade (you have to see anything at least once in your life), while it's quite nice to take the ancient yet refurbished cable car - it is touristy, but the experience is quite breathtaking. Don't forget to ride in the MUNI, have dinner at Stinking Rose where everything including dessert has garlic in it... spend some photo session at the exquisite Palace of Fine Arts, and roam around Mission district on some ever-changing mural tour... it is such a colorful neighborhood!!

Most exotic LGBT communities in the world. Also, unique cable car rides round the city. Unforgettable earth-shakes if you are lucky to experience it while you are there.

There is no need to take the airport shuttle bus into the city. You can just take the BART train. It is cheap and only takes 45 mins to get into downtown SF.

Rent a car. You do not get anywhere by walk or public transportation.

If wanting to catch a tram in San Francisco, go first thing in the morning to avoid the rush and queues to get on one. If wanting to hang on to the outside of a tram, make sure any bags or anything carried is strapped tightly to you as they can go at some speed - so hold on tight
