One of the few quasi-urban centers in the western spur of the florida panhandle aside from Pensacola. Big city ammenities, but a relatively small native population (I think the population almost doubles when FSU/FAMU is in session). Very nice place to raise a family, but if you are a young single professional, prepare for a fairly limited (but growing) nightlife. Think old south meets emerging urban city. Lots of tree lined streets combined with a fairly extensive array of restaurants and commercial areas. Good tip? It's an old warehouse district that has become a hub of the art scene, filled with studios, vintage shops, etc. All the studios are open, and many have snacks and bevs (including free wine!) the first friday of the month, every month.
