Stay away from the hotels on Busch Blvd near Busch Gardens, scary neighborhood.

Stay at "Gram's Place" Hostel on Tampa Heights. You save some money and the hostel is just amazing. For me the craziest Hostel in the U.S. and the best attraction in town. If you are a musician or if you're a music lover, you will love this place. It is sad that the owner Mark Holland isn't alive anymore, he was a great host and a worldclass musician. But go to his former home and you will see, what I'm talking about. Enjoy it!

The cruize ship docs are very large and interesting to load from, there is a really nice aquarium across the street.

Since Tampa is a port city for several cruise lines, you will most likely have an evening stayover prior to boarding. My last experience with the downtown Mariott Suites was excellent, but be prepared for $200 nightly costs at any of the decent hotels close to the ports.

Take lots of money to see all the fab sights and sounds of Tampa - spend New Year there with a load of lads from the Royal Navy - wicked good time.
