This is surburbia. No reason to come here unless you know someone or want to go to Walmart.

waikiki is just a big city with a beach. not even a nice beach, too much broken coral washed up on shore, really have to watch where ur walking or u'll cut ur foot. too many tall buildings lining the beach ... its all shade after a certain hour. if ur going to waikiki, i recommend getting outta the city everyday that u can and seeing real hawaii. get a 4-day bus pass .. its only $20 and u can ride as much as u want for those 4 days. some good things to see: Nu'uanu Pali Lookout, Ka'a'awa Valley (u can take a movie set your in a jeep), Waimea Falls. also, be sure to go to the north shore if u are on the island in winter ... 20-30ft waves are rolling in and u can watch the crazy surfers!

We stayed in hostels instead of hotels, way better.Met so many cool people.would recommend. Most hotels and hostels will supply free pick up from the airport.

It's pretty awesome, but really crowded. Great if you want to do some serious shopping or if you love hustle and bustle. Waikiki beach gets pretty crowded so get there early to have a spot to put your beach towel.
