Everything from the beautiful Lake Michigan, The Chicago Cubs, great restaurants and a great night life. Chicago is the summer has definitely topped my list of favorite places to be on a summer day. Start at a mueseum, spend the afternoon shopping on Michigan Ave, hit up Navy Pier for a night of Fireworks. Good tip? (0) Chicago, Illinois, United States Downtown chicago is unbelievable.. Has a great night life, obviously its not LA or NY, but it has its own charm. There are some really good clubs like Caberet, and Level. Good tip? (0) Chicago, Illinois, United States still impressed by it's beauty and lay out.... WHAT a city!!!!! Good tip? (0) Chicago, Illinois, United States Navy Pier is so much fun- just let loose. Go out not downtown, but north in boys town. so much fun! Good tip? (0) Chicago, Illinois, United States Go to the french connection...is one of the most beatiful places in chicago Good tip? (0) Prairie Shores, Illinois, United States THIS IS HOME BASE where I live. From my window I see unobstructed downtown Chicago including Sears Tower, Lake Michigan and the sailboats and some large freighters in the summer, and U.S. Cellular Field home of the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox (and the fireworks show every Saturday night). This is also a great spot to watch the July 4th Fireworks from the lakefront, and the annual August Air Water Show. Ample transportation runs through here via busses, elevated trains, cabs, and the commuter electric trains. This area is located in historic Bronzesville, the old Black mecca of Chicago comparative to New York's Harlem. The premier convention center of the Midwest is located here, McCormick Place. The McCormick Place Hyatt is one of the best hotels in the city. There is an excellent soul food restaurant here near 47th Street, and a poetry/comedy club nearby. The Harold Washington Cultural Center is a media showcase. The third largest parade in the U.S. is held here every summer, just before school reconvenes ... the Bud Billiken Back-To-School Parade, where the Mayor, Barack Obama, Jesse Jackson, and notables like Don King, Senator Dick Durbin, various Congressman, and movie stars and singers have marched, including President Harry Truman and Martin Luther King. The location just East of where I live will be the site of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Village, when Chicago hosts The Games! TIPS: Be extremely street-wise while here, as in any urban area. Try the barbeque from Mississippi Rick's, fried chicken from Harold's, and fish from J J. DON'T act like a tourist. Good tip? (0) |
