    Gallup, New Mexico, United States
Oh man. What a hellhole. Dirty, hot, and pointless. Be very careful driving westward and northward from here at night -- there is a very bad drunk driving problem, especially on the reservation. But I have to say that there are some places that serve amazing Navajo tacos scattered around town, and if you're passing through Gallup, you might as well indulge. And when you're done, leave town.

    Chama, New Mexico, United States
Be careful driving the area in winter. The passes are tricky and the pass between Taos and Chama may often be found closed. There's a way around it going north through Colorado, though. But then you miss the beautiful drive. Bring a map!
