Good way to get here is the Chinatown buses or Vammosebus.com or Boltbus.com. They're very cheap.

What can one say about New York city?!? Use public transport as the subway is the best and quickest way to get around. Get a Metrocard from the station along with a map, a bit confusing at first but you get used to it. Put on your good walking shoes, you'll need them. I recommend Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Brooklyn Museum (Eastern Parkway no. 2 train), The Cloisters, JR on Park Ave (Fulton St Subway) for all your CD/DVD/Computer needs at the best prices, Metropolitan Museum of Art is fantastic, Statue of Liberty on a good day and Ellis Island. For shopping got to go to Macy's, Bloomingdales and Century 21, which is near the old World Trade centre. Another good place to shop, relax and eat is South Street Seaport - a walk down Fulton Street. There is also a better, less congested place by South Street Seaport to buy discounted Broadway theatre tickets than in Times Square. It is well worth getting out of Manhattan if you have the time and exploring the Bronx Botanical Gardens, Harlem - eat soul food at Sylvia's etc, go shopping in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Take a train ride to Boston or Washington DC if you have the time. Great to take a train ride from Grand Central. So much to do in New York not enough space for any more tips!!! Not easy to find banks that exchange money in the USA. Always take travellers cheques, cash or plastic, don't try to change currency - it's too hard.

Never drive into NYC, take the subway instead. I like parking at an *attended* lot in Jersey City or Newark.

Once there, the NYC subway is the best way to get around.

If you are travelling to New york from Toronto and live close to downtown. Go Porter airlines to Newark. It's fast and easy and right now you can go return for under 300 dollars. The planes are nice and they feed you along with free drinks and shuttle service to Union Station.

If you are in New York City for the day, buy the Metro "Fun Pass" for $7.50. With the subway single ride fare at $2.00, a Fun Pass will have already paid for itself after only a few rides. It is good for and unlimited number of metro rides for one calendar day.

If traveling between October to March, make sure to have your jacket ready when you leave the plane, since it will be cold.
