Bring lots of CHANGE. If you've never driven in Houston, and aren't used to driving in cities with a population greater than a million...find out where you need to go BEFORE you start driving. If you have OnStar, you're set, but you'll still need a pocket full of quarters to get through all the tollways. You'll probably go through 5 tolls jus to go 10 miles. Ouch.

Houston is a wonderful city with a multitude of activities and attractions. Bear in mind that Houston has grown rapidly in a relatively short period of time. Traffic can be heavy on the major roadways. As a tourist, be sure to avoid rush hour as much as possible.

It is best if you plan on renting a car. It is a huge city and public transportation isn't the most useful. Once in a car you can enjoy the impressive highway network and go to the very interesting places the Houston area has to offer.
