Caracas, Capital, Venezuela An absolute must, this city is facinating. You must try one of the local cafe's and try a veg/fruit smoothie, very bizaare! Great architecture too. But do exactly what you tour guide tells you and never leave his sight! Good tip? Good tip? (+2) Merida, Andean, Venezuela Go hiking in the nearby mountains, it's really fun. Also, if you have a chance to go to the small mountain village of La Puerta, do it, it's really quaint and not touristy. Good tip? (+1) Caracas, Capital, Venezuela Not nearly as scary as people made out, but we did stick with the safety do's and don't's in our guidebook so maybe that is why. We found it had an excellent public transportation system. Good tip? (+1) Caracas, Capital, Venezuela Caracas has delicious Caribbean cuisine in downtown Caracas. The weather is just fabulous and people are very friendly. Get versed in Venezuelan politcs, history and culture prior to traveling there so you can understand and engage in interesting conversation. Good tip? (+1) Catia La Mar, Capital, Venezuela I really liked this town on the Venezuelan coast. There are some really great restaurants that overlook the Caribbean and have a great Latin American beat at night. Also, check out some of the ice cream shops in the area, they seemed so much better than in the States! Good tip? (0) Trujillo, Andean, Venezuela There isn't a lot to see in this small town; however, you have to go to the giant statue "Virgen de la Paz" on the mountain. You can climb all the way to the top and you have an amazing view of the valley and town. Also, try out the old town, it looks like a picture out of a book. Good tip? (0) Valencia, Central Region, Venezuela Go in the spring during La Feria de Fallas, it's not to be missed! I really really liked Valencia. During Fallas you can walk around to different paella competitions and taste all the different recipes, it's great (paella originated in Valencia)! Also, make sure to go to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento when they burn the giant falla and have the mascleta, they're both great! Good tip? (0) Isla de Margarita, Insular Region, Venezuela Isla de Margharita is a relaxing place to go after doing hard travel around South America. Spend a little more than normal and stay somewhere really nice as it is worth it. It is good to have a pool to go back to after a day on the beach as it is still hot in the evenings. Just remember to duck when the bats come swooping down for a drink of fresh water just after dark! Good tip? (0) Puerto La Cruz, Guayana Region, Venezuela Puerto La Cruz, is a caotic place to get around, but beaches are beatiful...you should go to Mochima, it is amazing. Good tip? (0) |
