    El Dorado, Guayana Region, Venezuela
This city is famous for it's terrible prison and, most importantly for being the center of the 24k gold business. To get some of the most beautiful gold jewelry in the world at the market price of the gram of gold, you have to go to El Dorado. Plus it's really funny to walk around the main square and see a jewelry for every 2 shops!

    La Paragua, Guayana Region, Venezuela
La Paragua is a name you might here when negotiating an Angel Falls trip in Ciudad Bolivar. The basic idea is, if you drive to La Paragua and fly from there, you save about $50 on your total trip price, because it is a shorter flight than flying direct from Ciudad Bolivar. A lot of people weren't willing to spend the extra time, and fair enough maybe, but we went via La Paragua, and I thought it was a scenicly beautiful drive and we had no problems so based on that I reccomend te La Paragua route. PS: Bring US cash or travellers cheques and you will half the cost of your trip from $400 to $200!!!!

    Isla Margaritica, Guayana Region, Venezuela
Senor Frogs in Porlamar is great!! It was a fun time with both tourists and locals alike. The only drawback is that it is a little pricey compared to other local, less popular places.

    Isla Margarita, Guayana Region, Venezuela
If you are a backpacker and you find yourself in Isla Margarita. DON`t waist your money in Porlamar. Resorts only. Isla Margarita is not actually backpacker friendly but once there, stay in Juangriego. It is the most "backpacking" oriented part of the island. Suggestion. Hotel Patrick. It is a hostel close to a siimple nightlife and decent bar in the front steps.

Santa Elena de Uairen, Guayana Region, Venezuela
If you want to experience one of the most preserved, natural, and beautiful place where the world is totally different with valley of natural crystals, black small frogs, natural jacuzzis on 1000 m hight and beautiful view on the waterfalls which are falling from 500-1000 meters... this is wonderful place. "The Lost World" Arthur Konan Doyle's novel, where he wrote concerning an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of where prehistoric animals and other extinct creatures) still survive. It was originally published in 1912. Definitely read it before going there... and you will experience not only magic of your imagination, but also the reality of its existence, I am talking about Tepui mountain place) So the best start is from Santa Elena city, which is located in Venezuella near the border of Brazil. There are tours organized by some travel companies and hopefully there are not so many travelers going there in these days, because when we were there in 2007 there were about 45-55 per year, as our guide told us. 7 days trip with backpacks, tents and food, that our guides carried.
