Untuk taksi cari yang pake argo. jangan aneh banyak yang nawarin tetek bengek, jangan percaya, banyak mafia kodok, just tell themto fuck themself! Untuk backpackers area, biasa ke daerah Pha Mu Lao. Untukharga hotel biasanya yang paling murah tapi udah bagus sekitar USD 10/malem termasuk tax. Klo ada rencana lama stay dsini, cari "room for rent" yang harganya sekitar USD 200/bulan. Ati2 ma copet, banyak copet disini!

Strawling the streets with your lonely planet is nice, but much nicer is finding a local who shows you around. There's always the deal of trusting them, but some of us have the luck to have developed a sence for it. I wandered the streets of Saigon with Mr. Hai who I paid a few dollars a day. After a few days he took me to the district where he lived himself (I think the 7th) and that was quite the experience...nothing special to see, yet so much more to see!

The culture in Vietnam is revealed through our cooking. We are an infusion of other as we have been occupied by the Chinese and the French and both is apparent in the food being sold on the streets and the beautiful crafted buildings. The best way to experience a Vietnamese life without having to feel completely as a "foreigner/tourist" than you should join in on the open street stalls for food and make some friends.

If you want to taste the best iced coffee ever, go by boat from Cambodia to Vietnam. By the border (where you have to wait quite a bit, they have the best one!!)

City itself is pretty typical major city... Check out the war museum, they talk about the American War from their perspective. Take a day tour to the tunnels - truely amazing!

The food here is absolutely delicious... everything... try it at least once.

Travelling around the city is a good experience. No mass transpo though. You either take a cab, a 'xe om' (motorbike), a 'cyclo' (rickshaw) or walk. Beware though of some drivers. Be sure you negotiate for a rpice firat before you ride, or you'll get ripped off.

If you're shopping in Bhen Thanh Market, remember to haggle, haggle haggle. Most initial quotations from salesladies are OVERpriced. Pretend to walk away disgusted, they will surely run after you. Then ask for half the price they quoted. Most likely, they'll relent, specially if you are their first customer or their last for the day.

the city is vibrant, noisy and never seems to sleep. walking across the roads is an experience in itself. from here u can visit the chu chu tunnels, mekong delta, wartime musuem(i must warn you the images are quite graphic so be prepared). lot of things to see and do,

if u feel sick try book into a hotel that has a doc on call. happened to me and the hotel was able to get the doc pretty quick, he was very good too. had the usual vomiting bug but was flying home the following day. Also his call out was really cheap! hotel we stayed in was 4star and was fab.
