There are a lot of fancy clubs, but watch out for police raids in the 'Apocalypse now' club..They take everyone with them for questioning, and nobody likes communist prison.

Beware of taxi drivers picking you up from your arrival point - taking you to wrong hotels where the hotel owners pay them to take you there instead of where you requested. Don't leave valuables in your hotels and don't book trips from hotels unless you get your ticket at the time of booking. If they say you get your ticket the next day - it won't be what you paid for and you have no recourse!!

To get around Vietnam you must catch a bus. The bus trips are very long due to the undeveloped roads.
My tip is to not travel with a company called T.M Brothers Cafe. They are convenient as there are alot of them, but the buses are not nice and they do not care about the customer. The bus doesn't have a toilet on board which means using (very dirty) squat toilets alot. I travelled with this company overnight about 4 times and they stop ALOT during the night, unexplainedley, which adds alot of time to the already long trip. They turn off the bus during these stops and it becomes very hot. I recommend travelling with someone else for sure. I went with Sinh Cafe also and they were luxury in comparison. There is a toilet on board and no unexplained stops along the way.

I took a compass and a GPS. Compass really helps when used with a map of the city you are in. The GPS didn't have any VN streets in it's map but it was useful nonetheless for marking the location of some things.

Try to be inconspicuous when you are looking at the map, compass, or GPS. Everyone probably already knows you aren't a local... but don't let them think you are a LOST non-local. If you hold the GPS out, it will be gone before you realize it.

For travellers going "Free Easy", make sure enough time is allocated for a trip to HCMC as...
1. You can only go to One location / day
2. Tours / trips are bought on a daily basis
3. Trips start at 8am, meaning that you can't go on a tour on your arrival day (will arrive at your hotel at about 10am, due to jams)

recommend: 5D4N or more
