Ram Allah, West Bank Not really a sight-seeing trip, but there is a school in Ramallah which is supported financially by many churches and organisations in the UK. They are always welcoming. Good tip? (0) Nabulus, West Bank Amazing city full of really friendly and welcoming people. I instantly feel at home in the West Bank because the people are so so friendly. If you are heading to Nablus then you will have to go through one of the many checkpoints that completely enclose the city. Keep your passport and visa stamp with you at all times. Women make sure you wear long sleeves and floor length trousers or skirt. Men, do not wear shorts. There is a lot to see, I suggest a trip to the refugee camp. The Old City is beautiful and has castle ruins, old factories, narrow streets, spice shops etc. One thing that you'll notice immediately is the posters of martyrs and children who have been killed. There are also bullet holes in nearly every wall. Don't be out and about in the city after dark as nearly every night the Israeli army come (illegally) into the city. If you leave the city through the Huwarra check point then there is a separate line for foreigners, women and elderly people. If you don't have a ride waiting for you at the other side then hop in a service (shared taxi) - they go everywhere in the West Bank (15 NIS to Ramallah) so when you come out just shout where you want to go! Good tip? (0) Bayt Lahm, West Bank Bethlehem is an amazing place, even if you aren't religious. The old city has lovely winding stone streets, the Church of the Nativity is a must see. There is also a jewelry store in the Cultural Center where you can buy handmade silver jewelry. Tip: if you're planning to go to Jerusalem from Bethlehem take the number 21 bus from the center - Yasser Arafat street - (costs around 6 NIS) - you don't have to go through the Gilo checkpoint. If you do go through the Gilo checkpoint then catch the number 24 bus on the other side (costs around 4NIS). Good tip? (0) Bil'in, West Bank Good place to go if you want to see and hear about the impact of Israel's 'Security Barrier' on the lives and livelihoods of Palestinians - the barrier has completely separated the townspeople from the land that they farm. Tip: if you want to go and see it but don't want to get caught up in a demonstration and risk getting shot at by the IDF then don't go on a friday! Good tip? (0) Al Khalil, West Bank If you want to buy an authentic Palestinian handmade Keffiyah (and not a cheap knock off from China) then visit the Women's Cooperative in Hebron. It's a small store in the Old City market where you can buy keffiyahs, bags, purses etc, all handmade. One of the only places left in the West Bank where you can by the real thing. Tip: don't wear one whilst walking around the city as Hebron's settlers have a tendency to attack internationals as well as locals. Good tip? (0) Ariha, West Bank The Monastery of Temptation The summit of Mount of Temptation, rising to a height of 350 meters above sea level and commanding a magnificent and panoramic view of the Jordan Valley, is the site where Jesus (pbuh) spent forty days and forty nights fasting and meditating during the temptation of Satan. Good tip? (0) Ariha, West Bank In the The Monastery of Temptation the offer you to drink from the foutain. It's very cold and clear! Fresh in the hot summer! Good tip? (0) Al Khalil, West Bank Interested to have a tour in the city of Hebron to learn about the Abraham Mosque old city and other locations Visit our website www.visithebron.ps or contact us at visithebron@gmail.com Good tip?
