Kim G. I can remember the most random things. My first memory is of my parents bringing my baby sister home from the hospital when I was 2. In it, I'm standing at the end of my aunt and uncle's driveway and am really excited when I see my parents car turn down the street. There my memory ends. I don't remember my parents getting out of the car or my baby sister coming into the house. Yet, I can remember the anticipation and excitement of a moment that was just around the corner. 27 years later.. (con't) Kristina W. I was born and raised in San Jose, California and exposed to travel at a young age through trips to Austria and Germany to visit my dad's family (I was so little in my first passport photo that my mom had to hold me!). It wasn't until age 19 that I explored on my own when I did a study abroad trip to Australia (and months later a second one to South Africa). From that point forward, I officially became a traveler. Since then, I have visited almost 50 countries/territories and all seven.. (con't) Nora D. I am The Professional Hobo! I sold everything in Canada in 2006, and left my cushy life to travel the world, full-time. Since then, I've traveled across or lived in 9 countries (so far). I'm also the world's slowest traveler, trading in hostel memberships for chances to work in trade for accommodation and live the "local life" for a while in each place. Work-trade in combination with my location independent writing income makes my full-time travels financially sustainable. So BRING ON.. (con't) D. G. I figure two things spurred my travel obsession from an early age. First was National Geographic magazine, which opened my eyes to the outside world full of different cultures, landscapes and people. Second, which I attribute to my preference for wildlife destinations, was watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. This classic TV series has been often imitated, and for good reason - it was the best! Aside from that, it is odd that I'm a travel addict. I come from a family of non-travellers... (con't) Kate H. My name is Kate and I’m a travel addict. I’ve had this little problem since I first moved from Canada to England for a four-month work term in university. As soon as I stepped off the plane I knew I was hooked! Now here I am, seven years later, and my urge to travel is stronger than ever. When I’m not actually traveling I’m thinking about traveling….and that’s why I think this website is so fantastic! What better way to get your daily traveling fix when you can’t actually be out there on the.. (con't) Douglas B. Travel adventures bring me true joy, deepening, and enriching the quality of my life. The more I travel, the more I experience and learn. Andre Gide (1869-1951) may have said it best, “It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves”. My first travel adventures began through the efforts of my mother and father. Yearly family vacations to the mountains and coast became much anticipated and beloved events. Even today, those memories still.. (con't) Meagan L. Having moved around to twelve different schools by the time I was 12 years old, I grew a strong interest in getting up and going. In fact, it was my life. It was what I knew. While some people might find the opposite happen - wanting to find a stable home - I found I yearned to continue moving. I grew up in the East coast of the United States, went to an arts high school (my first full four years of being somewhere), and headed to college at USC in Los Angeles where I double majored in French.. (con't) Susanna K.Dear fellow travelers, I am Susanna. I grew up in East Berlin, where traveling was never an option...Most countries where just gray spots on our atlases.... But I always dreamed of exploring the world... Eventually the big day came and the wall came down... A big dream came true for millions of German people... Believe me freedom is one of the biggest goods we have - and you start appreciate that even more if you miss it... Maybe that's one of the reasons I love to explore even the far.. (con't) Jackie K. I've visited 30 countries and can't wait to go see more. My favorite trip so far has been trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal - it was so beautiful there! My boyfriend is in the military and it really makes me appreciate the freedom we have to go just about anywhere we can imagine. I hope one day we can go explore together, but right now he's defending our country overseas. It really brightened my day when I saw that I'm a finalist.. (con't) |
