![]() Moscow, Central Russia, Russia ![]() Added Sep 24, 2011 Kremlin. The main reason of giving only 4 stars is that it is very very expensive to visit the compound.Tourists on a budget cannot afford it.There are a lot of sights to visit inside this triangle which is closed by high walls .You have to deposit bags before entering which is anoying in itself.Think that actualy you wait twice to get in:once when buying the ticket ond once for depositing the luggage.Once inside you forget about everything and you begin to wonder about the construction the museums and al that history that rewinds before your eyes.Dont forget the Armoury and once inside dont miss the Diamond Fund.Tours are also available . ![]() Moscow, Central Russia, Russia ![]() Added Sep 24, 2011 Like in any other cities with metro we also used the Moskow metro system. It worked excelent no complain at all.Quite cheap, friendly user. But the main attraction is the inner architecture of the metro stations.Theu are indeed unique monuments of art so decided to be by the then communist system in order to show the world of what they are capable. When it comes to the metro, they succeded. We visited a lot of stations for the sole purpose of seeing them.Dont let yourself just go by.Stop to admire them. The feeling is that you visit an underground museum.A whole period of Russian history winds before your eyes.If you have no ideea about Russian history is enough if read a bit only to understand what you see.I can recomand the following stations but many more are to be visited:Ploshchad,Chekhovskaya,Park Culturi,Smolenskaya,Mayakovskaya. ![]() Berlin, Berlin Region, Germany ![]() Added Sep 8, 2011 We visited Berlin in December one week before the New Year.Minus 4 degrees during the day but the weather was excellent. This gave us the opportunity to walk as much as possible and so we arrived also at the famous Charlie check point.I heard so many stories and lets not forget the tens of movies where this check point is filmed. So a lot of history is going before your eyes when suddenly you are in front of the history! We took pictures with the soldiers(it costs a couple of euros or maybe five) I received five border stamps used in the sixties and you can buy endless souveniers. The place itself and the museum are worth the trip itself. ![]() Jerusalem, Israel ![]() Added Jul 4, 2011 What more can be said about the Old city in Jerusalem? A mixture of everithing:modern and old ,Jewish muslem and christian. Its much more than any other old city in the Middle East or elsewhere. Its a place for people to live and for others to visit.Take a "roof" tour of the old city or a long walk on its ancient walls. ![]() Venice, Veneto Region, Italy ![]() Added Jul 4, 2011 It is still one of the most recognezed places in the world with a specific charm that makes you wonder when will come the time to be there once more.I do remember well the place also because a totaly different reason:in 1988 siping a cola in one of the front caffes was so expensive thet it upset out daily budget! ![]() Ulaanbaatar, Central Mongolia, Mongolia ![]() Added Jul 4, 2011 It is situated about 80 km from UB and on the way you can visit the newly constructed mega-statue and complex of Chingis khan.If you have time do some rock climbing but first make sure you saw the "Turtle Rock" ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Jul 4, 2011 I give this gallery only four stars since the time they put that pyramide in the middle of the museum.Don't try to visit the whole museum.Go first to Mona Lisa and then to your special interest galleries.Concentrate in seeing less but better. ![]() Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina ![]() Added Jul 2, 2011 We had to visit this street twice in order to understand how fun it was.Nice leather shops and a lot of street vendors.A good atmosphere for tourists. ![]() Jerusalem, Israel ![]() Added Jun 3, 2011 Everybody who knows just a bit about the new Testament shoul come and walk the streets where it is said that it happend. You will feel, like in no other place on Earth, that you are part of history. You might even touch stones which were touched now 2011 years ago. ![]() Jerusalem, Israel ![]() Added Jun 3, 2011 Did you know that some of the rocks of the Wall on the inside tunnel are as big and haevy as the rocks of the Pyramide ?It makes me wander... ![]() Jerusalem, Israel ![]() Added Jun 3, 2011 Althou I can not visit it any more I had the opportunity to visit it in the early 80's. Who knows, you whish might get fullfilled. ![]() Barcelona, Catalonia Region, Spain ![]() Added Feb 17, 2011 What makes the park so interesting is maybe the history of how it was created.Long time ago a couple of entrepenors (Gaudi included)bought that terein in order to build for the rich outside the classic Barcelona. The got bankruped and could not even sell at low price. But in the last few decades the city developed and the park and the few villas are now the most expensive property in Barcelona. ![]() Berlin, Berlin Region, Germany ![]() Added Dec 22, 2010 Situated in Alexanderplatz but well seen from all the points in the center of the city.Including the antenas it is 368 meters high and so it is one of the tallest in Europe. It was built mainly to answer to the needs of former East Germany. The construction ended in 1969.The observation point is at 203 meters and above it there is a revolving restaurant, making two full turns per hour .From the time we got to the tower and to the time we finished the tour it took two hours! It was on a Saturday and on a beautiful sunny day on 18th of this December. It was not snowy weather but the visibility from 203 meters was foggy a bit .Still we did have a good view-not good at all for photos .We could not eat at the restaurant because only guests with prior reservations were let in. Not far from there there is a big art shop where various art items are displayed. We were interested in wood statues from the Easter Island (to be visited in two days)but they were quite expensive. After leaving the shop you begin the route upwards, bypassing a nice statue of an indian and a few shops where you can by drinks. On top of this hill-which is quite unusual how it appeared in the middle of nowhere in Santiago-you finaly can stop and have a panoramic view of the whole city. You can see quite far and even further on a nice and clear day.The small park with flowing water and a few fish is pleasant on a hot day.The descent is recomanded to be done on the other side so you can se all of the hill. ![]() Massada, Galilee, Israel ![]() Added Jun 4, 2010 I want to share with you a new thrill: the famous opera of NABUCCO was performed yesterday at the feet of the World Heritage Site of Massada. Yesterday's performance was unique:not only the great Daniel Oren was the conductor, but Israel's president Shimon Peres was the guest of honer. His presence and his speech contributed to the performance and to the well feeling of everybody. The conductor seemed overwhelmed himself and performed the famous slave aria letting the spectators to sing together with the choir. Once sitted ,the combination of the lights on the surounding mountains(the performance took place at 10 PM)and the pure sound of the orchestra will cause you feel like flying in the space with closed full of excitment and excellent weather. The mountains were approached slowly slowly and by eash turn of the bus you discovered a new side and dimention of the mountain.(on the way we stoped at the Cueva del Milodon)When you enter the gates of the national park you already feel that something huge will happen. You have no time and patience for all the stops on the way. Each new mountain you see from the window you wonder :Is this "the mountain" ?When finaly you get off the bus and in front of you lies the mountain so well known from the photographs...It's imposing and beautiful and once again you wonder about all the beauties of the nature and how they were selected to be almost perfectly distributed one or two or more for each country. The snow on the top,the very blue lakes at your feet, the lamas wondering on the grass all this in one place and just for you to contemplate on it.And indeed you sould contemplate but this time with wide open eyes and a lot of camera clicks.Who knows if after 12000 km I will ever return there once again. ![]() Tirana, Adriatic Lowlands, Albania ![]() Added May 29, 2010 Traveling to Tirana,Albania was like visiting a different planet. We heard about this country as one of the poorest and most difficult to access. So we traveled to Tirana. We chose the International Tirana hotel overlooking this square. From the sixth floor we saw the whole sq.including the statue the chirch and all the other imposing buildings .When I say "imposing" I reffer relativly to Albania. On the streets you see a different picture:under a tree a person with a phone linked to a line bypassing the tree into an unknow direction ,offers the tourists and the locals cheap phone calls...Others sell cigaretts by the unit.Fruit is sold by piece ,all very cheap.Meanwhile the streets are full of BMW and other expensive cars. You wonder how is that possible?Back to the sq.: you can have a general idea about Albania by walking around it.A moslem minaret and not far a church.Taxis vs.public transport on which you don't realy want to be.The atmosphere is positive and you feel like wanting to discover a secret and so you continue to walk and enjoy the square. Not far from it you must visit the rotating restaurant on the top of the highest building in Tirana. For us it was a one time pleasure and quite unexpected to find it in Tirana.Go for it!! ![]() Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina ![]() Added May 29, 2010 I wish I could give this experience a hundread stars and not only five! The cruse leaves Ushuaia and returns to Punta Arenas. The other cicle leaves Punta Arenas and arrives in Ushuaia.A once in a life time experience that brings you around the Cape Horn and the Magellan straits.Have a look at the Tierra del Fuego from a different perspective. The ship has only 64 rooms so crowded it will not be.The staff is super!!Full of knowledge and of help they will give you much more than expected. The cruse is not for people who like to eat at the "all inclusive" restaurants and bars.Either is it for those who want to relax or dance or have funn on the ship.Think of this cruise more as an expedition. You are bussy all day you will get up early and will go to sleep tired. But you will enjoy evry second of it.For example:you leave at six pm sharp.welcome dring and dinner.Next morning the first disembarkment at Cape Horn.In the afternoon another disembarkment. While on the ship there are twice a day meetings in English and Spanish about different themes like flora and fauna or about Magellan and so on.We had the best food served, lunch included. Now all you have to do is to pray for good weather in order to be able to get to the shore in the zodiacs. And I want to mention the pinquins (about 80-100000)on the St.Magdalena islands. We went in late February,we recomand the same. ![]() Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina ![]() Added May 29, 2010 In order to take the cruze around Cape Horn you have the choice to begin it from come to the hotel only for the view. The same view can be seen from the dinning room. The hotels belongs to the Cubanacan chain (state owned) but you will fill like living in paradise.Plenty to do and see around the area'\,I wish I had more than two days. It's a hotel and place to return to. See if Sharon, the receptionist is still working there-he was very helpfull.Excelent breackfast and perfectly clean room, doorman at the entrance. We received much more than expected and don't worry about the price. ![]() Vienna, Vienna State, Austria ![]() Added May 25, 2010 Pleasant hotel very good breakfast where we met a Hungarian witress'so the service inproved, the hotel still has the room where the famous Sisi lived. No free parking.Close to the metro but not quite a walking distance if you are more than sixty !Big rooms and big bathroom clean and cosy with simple furniture I do recomend it.Worth the price we paid, reservation by internet. ![]() Santiago de Cuba, Eastern Cuba, Cuba ![]() Added May 25, 2010 We arrived delayed at the international airport of S de Cuba.An old Moskwich Russan car without headlights took us to the hotel for about 20 dollars. The reception was open and we were nicely welcomed. The room had air conditioner and safe .The building itself seems quite old and not recently renovated. The room was clean as well the beds. What surprised me a lot was the nise bird forms made out of the towells, separate designes on each bed.In the morning we went to eat breakfast. As in all the hotels in Cuba there was a cook to prepare omlette.A lot of fresh fruit was served on a table. The service was self service but a few waiters were on hand if you needed something. The reception staff was helpfull with recharging my camera battery. It was the firs time I saw in the same room both 220V and 110 V outlets !We did stay for four nights at the hotel but mainly for breakfast and sleeping. To much to see outside the hotel. It was a superb pleasure to visit the city and the whole trip by itself even though we traveled by rented car.It was,as you say, A unique Experience !! ![]() Oulu, Oulu Province, Finland ![]() Added May 25, 2010 Ainola park for me is the place where is situated the Ainola museum.I remenber this museum mainly because as other museums in Finland it did not have any explanations in English. But it was OK,it is a museum !And if already in Oulu go and find the funny little policeman statue ! Iwon't tell you where is it ... ![]() Jerusalem, Israel ![]() Added Apr 25, 2010 It is not only the hotel.Finish breakfast with a glass of champaine and go out to visit the neighbourhood.Ask for a guided tour-it is worth. ![]() Madrid, Madrid Region, Spain ![]() Added Apr 24, 2010 While still in Europe add a visit also to the Hermitage museum. After you saw all three of them you will fill much much better and educated not mentinning the inner satisfaction of seeing the most beautiful art works. ![]() Vatican City, Holy See (Vatican City) ![]() Added Apr 24, 2010 I had a unic opportunity to see (partialy only) the last year's Easter prayers. It was rainning without mercy but still the tousand believers stayed and prayed on this holly site. The museum is worth a visit. ![]() Rome, Lazio Region, Italy ![]() Added Apr 24, 2010 History is supposed to repeat itself so if 2000 years ago the Romans had such a huge empire, who's next ? Go and visit to have an idea about the enormity of the empire. ![]() Rodos, Cyclades & Dodecanese, Greece ![]() Added Apr 24, 2010 First of all be carefull:the hotel provides rooms overlooking the sea and rooms overlooking a hill behind the hotel. For a tip of 20 euro we were upgraded to a room with sea view.It was room 1001 if I remember correctly. The hotel has excellent facilities and swimming pools both for adults and children. What is still the best that you can reach the beaches by an undeground passage so you do not have to bother crossing the bussy highway.Shortly:well recomanded. ![]() Antwerpen, Antwerpen Region, Belgium ![]() Added Apr 24, 2010 I visited the museum about 30 years ago.But since it is a museum I suppose not too much changed.I would say that since I like very much Rubens , my atention fellt on his works espacially on his drawings.Let's say :it is a must even for the minimal art lovers. When looking at his works try to imagine the years he draw and painted. ![]() Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina ![]() Added Apr 23, 2010 What was nice was that the bathroom was not separated from the room...just use your imagination !!
