A really nice set-up museum with a huge selection of Palaeolithic artefacts and animals, and of course the highly famous Nebra sky disc :). The Nebra disc alone would already be a reason to visit the museum. The museum is not too big, so you won't spend hours wandering around. The information is good. ![]() Marrakech, Morocco ![]() Added Apr 13, 2011 Great location, good rooms, helpful staff... the basics of a good stay :). The rooms looked clean and had good beds. Situated in one of the back streets near the Djemma el Fna square, so at just enough distance from the hassle, and close enough to pay a short visit to the square. The roof terrace was great. Served good breakfast and drinks. The service was a little bit slow, but the food/drinks were definitely good and well priced. Can be recommended. ![]() Meknes, Morocco ![]() Added Apr 12, 2011 In the search to budget accomodation in the medina of Meknes, I'd advise to go to another hostel/hotel. Our experience was not that great. The staff was not the most helpful, even started shouting if you did not understand what they said... The rooms... well, let's call it a bathroom with a bed. Walls 'decorated' with all sorts of tiles, there's a sink, and a bed somewhere inbetween. And also... the hotel does not have a proper roof xD The only plus was the location near one of the main squares. You won't find me in this place again. ![]() Chefchaouene, Morocco ![]() Added Apr 12, 2011 My first visit to a Moroccan Kashba, and it was definitely worth it! Spend some 10 dh and wander around in the lovely shade filled gardens of the Kashba, and take a look at the little museum-ish part, and climb the tower to get a view of the cute city and its neighbouring peaks. So,if you want to see some typical Moroccan sights, pay a visit to the kashba :) ![]() Chefchaouene, Morocco ![]() Added Apr 12, 2011 Great hostel in the medina of the lovely city of Chefchaouen. Bit difficult to loccate at first, but perfectly situated near the main square with the Kashba. Helpful staff, good rooms, though all a bit noisy (you could hear all bathroom sounds in the bedroom). Has a nice roof terrace to view the sunset :) (or sunrise if you prefer). One of the best stays in Morocco! ![]() Moulay Idriss, Morocco ![]() Added Jan 22, 2011 A nice Roman site on a place you'd not really expect it to be. Nevertheless it's a great change to once see Roman ruins in a green valley, rather than in a city. Unfortunately the maintainance/preservation is poor, also the information. It's also not always clear where you can or can't walk, but.... it definitely hase some nice pilars and mosaics :), don't forget the welcome entrance fee of only 10 dh. ![]() Kreisfreie Stadt Aachen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Region, Germany ![]() Added Nov 17, 2010 This hotel is really fancy and modern designed. The price is moderate to high-ish. The bedrooms are really good, provinding a nice bed, clean bathroom, huge flat screen tv and fancy lights. On the groundfloor near the reception there's a bar and lounge room. The lounge is stuffed with Fatboys and (again) has a huge flat-screen, with a Wii! The breakfast is one of the best I had in hotels. Just too much to choose. Including good chocolate milk and coffee with real milk :) As the price of most hotels in Aachen won't be too much lower than this one, I'd advise to go here. About 10 minutes walking from the center. ![]() Blaine, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 17, 2010 Nice monument to go to when you're near, either near Vancouver, BC or at the US side. The arch itself is quite impressive, though not too special. The park on the Canadian side is nice to spend your time on a good, sunny afternoon. ![]() Koln, Nordrhein-Westfalen Region, Germany ![]() Added Sep 8, 2010 Interesting (small) exhibition of a Roman building. Quite impressive of how much of the building survived till now. Gives you an insight in the hugeness and great structure of Roman buildings. It's also possible to walk in a subterranean hallway, which is not advised to people who suffer of some kind of claustrofobia. Apart from the structure itself, there's a small exhibition of Roman material found at the site ![]() Koln, Nordrhein-Westfalen Region, Germany ![]() Added Sep 5, 2010 Huge! The Dom can be seen more or less anywhere in Köln, even from the highway and ofcourse when you're in the train nearing Cologne. It's simply impressive, mainly outside. From the inside it looks quite small because of the way the cathedral is divided is several parts. The stairs to the 'top' of the Dom are good for your stamina, as you have to walk 533 steps (and that amount back again...). Nice view of the city. ![]() Koln, Nordrhein-Westfalen Region, Germany ![]() Added Sep 5, 2010 Good hotel in the inner city of Köln, on the corner of the main shopping streets and about 7 minutes walk from the Dom. Reasonable priced, well situated and well reachable from both the trainstation (walk about 10 minutes) and by car. The rooms are quite 'big' and look sort of simple, but are quite comfortable. The receptionists are nice and willing to help with all of your questions. Breakfast is good. This'd be a hotel I could stay again. ![]() Scheveningen, Zeeland & Zuid Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Aug 28, 2010 OK-ish all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. Looks a bit shabby both inside and outside. The service could've been better, but the sushi and other dishes were good! It can be advised to go there if they have special offers, otherwise, try an other a-y-c-e restaurant. ![]() Leiden, Zeeland & Zuid Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Aug 22, 2010 This restaurant serves the best sushi in Leiden (and perhaps also better than most other sushi restaurants). You can eat here for reasonable prices. The service isn't always as quick, but the food is always freshly made and tastes really good! ![]() Leiden, Zeeland & Zuid Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Aug 22, 2010 Good antiquity museum near the center of Leiden. It has some good and interesting permanent exhibits, as Egypt, Near East, Greek, Roman Empire, including the Dutch occupation and Dutch prehistory. The temporary exhibits are worth the visit as well. 'Famous' for its Egyptian temple and the treetrunk canoe from Hardinxveld. The museum is not too big, so you can easily visit it within an hour. ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Aug 5, 2010 The clock looks really nice and arty. It attracts loads of tourists every hour to see the apostels. If you want to see it, don't go there 15 minutes or more in advance, because the 'show' doesn't last too long. Nice to see, but it's not extremely bad if you've just missed it. ![]() White Rock, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Aug 5, 2010 Good place to go on a sunny day, nice views and some cool sealife. ![]() Rome, Lazio Region, Italy ![]() Added Aug 3, 2010 One of the coolest fountains I've seen. A bit touristic, but it's really good for taking nice pictures (even with older digital cameras). Dn't forget to toss a coin over you shoulder if you want to go back to Rome! ![]() Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece ![]() Added Aug 2, 2010 You haven't visited Athens, if you haven't been on the Akropolis. Extremely interesting place, great view of the city, a sea of white. Too bad every now and then the buildings are under construction, but still it's impressive. Both for the view of the city as of course the main temples (Nike temple, Propylaea, Erechteion, Parthenon) that you can finally see in real life. ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Aug 2, 2010 Interesting place to visit in New York. Often to be combined with a boat trip to the Statue of Liberty. The museum shows both the propagandic side of entering the US during the first immigrations, while you can also see some of the negative sides of the island, as it happened to be not the gate to a better future for everyone. Shockingly some of the immigration routines can be recognized in today's customs to the US, as some of the points were described as 'old-fashioned', but actually still used for non US visitors. Don't forget to go here. If you had to choose between the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, I'd recommend to visit the latter, because it is really interesting and impressive to see. ![]() London, England, United Kingdom ![]() Added Aug 2, 2010 Nice museum. It's recommendable to order the tickets in advance to not have to stand in line so long. Once you've seen 1 Mme Tussaud's, you've actually seen them all (apart from some local differences ofcourse) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Aug 2, 2010 Rectangular, huge and green, that's Central Park as seen from above. Didn't expect it to be this huge. It's a nice place to go to escape some of the city's business. Central Park is a must-been are in NY which actually can't (and shouldn't) be missed. It's even possible to spend some hours of 'wildlife' watching with the specially made guides for animals in CP. ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Aug 2, 2010 One of world's most famous landmarks, not world's most beutiful. You more or less have to see it when you're in Paris. Nice view from the tower, especially in the evening. ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 One of Prague's landmarks. Has some nice history, unfortunately most written in Czech. Less touristic than the other tower in Prague. As it's also cheap to visit and not crowded with tourists, it's recommended to visit! But.. you have to be abe to walk some tricky stairs! The reward is great ;) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 Located in the Upper West Side, not far from a subway and several restaurants. The location is ok, the hostel itself is slightly dubious, which started whn we went to Fresh hostel, which we were supposed to sleep in, we were guided to the other hostel. The room was ok, but the bathrooms were often flooded. There happened to be bedbugs in the room, which seems tobe a sort of common problem, as I read some other reviews on the internet. Not really a place I'd recommend, unless you're on a sort of tight budget. ![]() Berlin, Berlin Region, Germany ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 Nice museum that shows the other side of the 'story' during the cold war. It's worth visiting, unless ofcourse you're only interested in the western view on the cold war. Has to be said that some things were rather romantisized, so you can't take it exactly as the 'truth', but still nice to visit. ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 Located in Praha 3, so outside the main tourist routes, but it is really worth it to pay this reastaurant a visit. From the street it looks like a small restaurant, but it has a large space in the back and a garden terrace, including some cute cats :). It took a while before we got our food (have to say that the restaurant was completely filled), but it was worth waiting, as it was the best reek food I had in a while. Especially the Bifteki with cheese and souzoukaki are recommendable! ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 In the old centre of Prague, mainly a restaurant for tourists. Don't take the tourist menu even though it may seem a good offer, it is not really. You can choose of few dishes and the portions are more or less smaller than the half of the normal portions. They also have some sneaky ways to raise the price, for example the 'live music' that has to be paid for per person and a 10% tip. The food was nothing special, at least not the meals from the tourist menu. ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 Nice typical hostel about 10 minutes walk from the central station. Bit difficult to find, mainly because the route doesn't seem to logical, as you have to walk alongst a big road of which you don't see the sidewalk on first sight. The hostel was a bit noisy at times, but it looks good enough to pass as a proper hostel, where mainly backpackers stay. The breakfast was basic, but okay. ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 Good old cafe restaurant that serves great (Czech) food (esp. try the honeyed pork ribs or pork loin with cheese, walnuts and pear)! We really enjoyed the meal. Good prices. It is not too close to the center, so it might not be visited too soon, but it's well worth it! Good opportunity to go hear if you sleep in a hostel near the Praha 3 district. ![]() Berlin, Berlin Region, Germany ![]() Added Aug 1, 2010 Good hostel in former East-Berlin, near (walking distance) Ost Bahnhof and U Weberwiese, which has a connection to Alexanderplatz. The hostel itself was nicely located on a rather quiet location. The rooms were ok, good price and free internet. ![]() Copenhagen, Hovedstaden Region, Denmark ![]() Added Jul 27, 2010 Great museum with not only geological stuff, but also some paleontology and archaeology! Very interesting :) If you're interested in the earth, rocks, minerals and/or paleontology, just visit this museum! Plus; if you're a geology or archaeology student, you have free admission (while other students did have to pay a few years ago). ![]() Copenhagen, Hovedstaden Region, Denmark ![]() Added Jul 27, 2010 Great museum with lots of archaeological stuff. There were so many stone axes, walls filled with them, that Dutch archaeologist could only dream of such a number. The prehistory section was really nice and impressive. The other parts were also well worth the visit, such as the Middle Ages part and the Near Eastern collections. So don't forget to visit this museum when you're in Copenhagen! ![]() Brussels, Brussels Region, Belgium ![]() Added Jul 27, 2010 THE icon of Brussels, though to me it was less iconic than I thought. It was small and squeezed somewhere on a corner where you could easily miss it. It has too big a name for such a small tourist attraction ;-) ![]() Rome, Lazio Region, Italy ![]() Added Jul 27, 2010 In my opinion one of the collest tourist attractions in Rome. It's well worth it to check some of the history of the Colosseum befor going there. Magnificent huge building :) ![]() Hope, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jul 26, 2010 Hell's Gate airtram in the Fraser Canyon (situated along highway 1, 52 kms from Hope) is an impressive ride across the wild waters of Hell's Gate. The tram takes you to a nice small museum with a fisheries exhibit (with salmon as most important fish) and a 'fudge factory' and a cute little souvenir shop. The price for the airtram is rather high, but it is possible to make your ticket into a season pass, so if you'd like, you could go there more often without having to pay all the time. ![]() Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate Region, Germany ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Trier has some nice guided tours to offer. We happened to get to one through the thermae in Trier. The guide was dressed up as Roman soldier and guided us through the site by running around and telling a fictional story of its history, mixed with fact. It really was a nice experience I can recommend to others! ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Not as good as I hoped. The architecture of the building was actually the best part of the museum, really liked the spiralling inside. The art in it was for me not too special/interesting. ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Huge museum with collections for everyone. Probably best if you check on forehand what you want to see and what you can possibly skip, because the museum is simply huge and after some hours of walking, it could occur that you don't pay enough attention anymore to the things you wanted to see ;) I was impressed by the huge amount of artefacts and the info given to it. One of my favourite wings were the ones from Oceania, Ancient Greece, the Ancient Near East and Meso America. Bring a good camera with you with enough space left on the memorycard and make sure you have enough batterypower, you'll need it ;) ![]() Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Good fishery museum at the harbour of Lunenburg. Much to see. Enjoyable for both children and adults. You can see the stages of the production of ships, can walk on some ships and it has several aquariums! The sea creatures are secretely often getting the attention of adults too, as it's just cool to see. Another fun thing about the museum was a giant lobster trap where you could get in, signed with "Trapped at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic" :) In short: interesting and fun museum, don't forget to check it out if you happen to be on Nova Scotia! ![]() Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Good value for money. The rooms were really good, no complaints on that point. It's situated in Plaka, one of the 'central' areas. Loved the breakfast. Got myself addicted to yoghurt and honey here ;) ![]() Clearwater, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Wells Gray PP is a great nature reserve in British Columbia. We accidentally bumped upon this park and it was a great experience. It's quite a way from the main road, so a lot of nature around :). Recommendations: Hiking at Pyramid Mountain; Great view, lots of wildlife. Canoeing on the lakes. You could do a tour of multiple days or just a single day of canoeing. And last but not least: just simply enjoy the nature and it's little creatures and sounds! ![]() Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Nice small village with not much more to do than simply walking around and relaxing at the beach/hot springs, so it's a good point to start or end your holiday ;) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Central Park Zoo is a cute little zoo in the large metropolitan area, nicely situated in CP. Don't expect mega animals and a huge area in this zoo. You are warmly welcomed by some Californian sealions that can cunningly avoid pictures, but give a nice show during feeding time. Another top attraction in this park is the cute and cuddly looking Red Panda, that even causes weak knees to the most tough looking men :P The tropical house in the zoo is really well thought of; it has a huge tree and multiple 'storeys' where you can see the different kinds of animals that live in the different parts of the tropical rainforest. Good helpful staff around that wants to explain as much (or more ;) ) as you've asked for. So: go here if you've had it with the city itself and enjoy yourself in this cute little zoo :D ![]() Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate Region, Germany ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Hotel Astoria is a good looking hotel in Trier, just outside the cultural center of the city. The room we booked was plain, but good enough, good beds. The breakfast was really great. Lots to choose of and they had the fancy egg-tickers, to make a crack in an egg :P. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed with a drink. Overall ; good service. A place to go to again. ![]() Berlin, Berlin Region, Germany ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 We've been in this hotel 3 times, twice in summer, once in winter. The hotel looks really fancy and has really nice staff. The breakfast is very good. Has enough to choose of and it has lots of fresh fruits. It's located in the Schlüterstrasse, one of the side streets the the Ku'damm. The only downside was in winter when we slept in a room with no heat regulation of it's own; that was in the room next to ours, so during the day we were freezing and at night it was too hot. They did fix that after we mentioned it. ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Jul 25, 2010 Great place to take a stroll when the weather is nice, frees you of being captured between skyscrapers all day ;) The lowdown on Neeke H.What's this person like as a travel companion?
