Born and raised in rural Ohio, I received my degree in electrical engineering in 2003. After college, I worked as an engineer for two years in Ohio, a year in San Diego, and then moved to San Francisco where I was a web developer and freelance photographer for three years. Finally, this year I realized that my life needs to be focused solely on my photography and traveling the world. I now live in Brooklyn, and am jumping into my artistic career. So much of my photographic inspiration comes from the consistently amazing photos and stories in National Geographic, as well as the numerous Earth documentaries that I've seen. They both constantly remind me of how incredible and diverse this planet truly is, and also sadly how little time we have left to experience all of its wonders in their current state. Of all the geographic regions of the Earth, it's the remote, polar regions that I'm most drawn to. Perhaps it's the sense of extreme isolation that I crave, or maybe it's simply the breathtaking frozen landscapes that are so very surreal and photogenic. In 2008, I traveled over 3,000 miles across Alaska in a little over two weeks and was overwhelmed by its largely untouched, rugged beauty. At the top of my list of places to visit include Antarctica and Greenland. It's my goal to photograph both as soon as possible.
