You don't even have to do anything, just sit there and take in your surroundings. ![]() Sydney, New South Wales, Australia ![]() Added Jul 25, 2012 IT'S SO BIG!! Very impressive. I've always thought that the roofs were just pure white, but when you get up close you see that they're inlaid with thousands of tiles, and actually have a kind of golden shimmer. I went inside - it's massive. I didn't take a backstage tour, which I'm sort of regretting now. If I were to go back, I'd do one. ![]() Blaricum, Amsterdam & Noord Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Jul 25, 2012 The best ice cream in Blaricum and thereabouts! They have all kinds of flavours, so you'll definitely find your favourite among them. I used to love going there as a little kid, and even though we have an excellent gelateria where I live now, I still miss riding my bike to go and get an ice cream at De Hoop. ![]() Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia ![]() Added Jul 23, 2012 Fun vibe, and the music's okay, but the main reason you should check it out is the interior design. Everywhere are monkey faces carved out of wood, and there are tables for people to dance on. And the entrance fee is just five bucks. So why not? ![]() Brisbane, Queensland, Australia ![]() Added Jul 23, 2012 Very different! The location is great, with Brisbane's skyline as a backdrop. The beach isn't big, but the fact that it exists makes up for the small scale. Right next to it is a type of kiddie pool, with fountains and statues of animals. It's worth the 20 minute walk. I only wish that I'd brought a towel and a swimsuit. ![]() Rome, Lazio Region, Italy ![]() Added Jun 15, 2012 Very impressive, but the line was too long to bother. It's fun from the outside too, though. Of course there are "Roman soldiers" everywhere to take your picture with, and if that's the kind of thing you like, I guess it's an added bonus. ![]() Amsterdam, Amsterdam & Noord Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Feb 1, 2012 I don't think it's all that special, but that's probably because I've been in Amsterdam countless times and I've basically seen it all. If you're a first time tourist, it would be worth the visit. ![]() Amsterdam, Amsterdam & Noord Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Jan 30, 2012 I liked it here. I'm a bit of a history geek, and the first time I went there it was on a field trip, and we had just learned about the Golden Age in school. I thought it was pretty interesting. I went there again a few weeks ago, but it was pretty much the same collection. They did have a few new things, but the usual collection is interesting enough to go and see a second time. They have a vast collection of Dutch art made in the Golden Age by Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Verspronck, Frans Hals and Jan Steen. I'd definitely reccomend going to the Rijksmuseum. ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Jan 27, 2012 The view from the top is great. The climb is doable, although we did take the elevator to the first floor. We walked the rest of the way. To be underneath the Tower is just as much fun (if not more) as to be on top of it. There are always lots of people down there, the ambiance is great (everyone's excited), and it's fun to look up into the maze of iron until it makes your head spin. ![]() Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Region, Germany ![]() Added Jan 26, 2012 I'm not really a clothes shopping person, but this mall is the biggest one in Germany, so my mom and I decided to go there. I got a few things that I really liked, but it's all pretty generic. The size of the complex is impressive, but I didn't really think that it was anything special. ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jan 26, 2012 The falls, the most obvious thing to visit when you're in Niagara Falls. It's actually a better view from Canada than from the United States, so I'd recommend crossing the border (takes you 5 minutes) and watch it from the Canada side of the waterfalls. What I thought was the most fun thing to do, was take a boat ride and get really close to the falls. They give you a raincoat (but you still get wet because of the mist that comes off of the Falls) and special sandals, so everyone on the boat is either blue or yellow. The power with which the water crashes down is very impressive, a real force of nature. I'd definitely recommend going there. ![]() Oswiecim, Malopolska Region, Poland ![]() Added Jan 24, 2012 Visiting Auschwitz made a very profound impression on me. The smell of death is everywhere, even 60 years after it was freed. The walls of the houses (yes, houses, not barracks) are lined with countless of photographs of men and women with shaven heads (hardly any children; they were considered useless for work, so the Nazis disposed of them as soon as they arrived at the camp) staring into the camera and down upon the visitors. Behind walls of glass lays everything the Nazis took from the prisoners: prosthetic legs, suitcases, family photos, dolls, coats, and even human hair that was shaved of for "hygienic reasons". The air in Auschwitz is suffocating, but I think it's a very important site to visit. ![]() Amsterdam, Amsterdam & Noord Holland, Netherlands ![]() Added Jan 24, 2012 Amsterdam's scary history dungeon! A fun way to learn about the long and gruesome history of the Dutch capital. The actors/narrators are obviously very passionate about their work. The stories are told in both English and Dutch (which is very convenient), the dark and dingy atmosphere of the dungeon adds to the credibility of the stories that are being told, and the props used will give you a couple of nice scares. ![]() Rome, Lazio Region, Italy ![]() Added Jan 24, 2012 The Vatican is impressive, true, but the waiting in line... I wouldn't do it a second time. Once you're inside there are some interesting things to look at - with the Sistine Chapel at the very top of the list - but all in all it's a little disappointing. Everything is crowded, you can't look at things at your own pace, and the whole experience was just a bit of an anticlimax for me. ![]() Utrecht, Utrecht Region, Netherlands ![]() Added Jan 24, 2012 De Bijenkorf is considered an upscale department store. It carries brands that are a little above the average price, but then again it's high quality you're buying. I enjoy shopping here, and even if you're not planning on spending money, there are plenty of interesting items to look at. There's also a restaurant on the top floor that serves decent food, in case you get hungry. ![]() Xanten, Nordrhein-Westfalen Region, Germany ![]() Added Jan 20, 2012 Very interesting. Went here on a school trip when I was 13, and all I really remember about it is that I had a great time. The park includes a large Ancient Roman fort that you can walk around in, and half of an ancient temple that is still standing. ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Oct 19, 2011 It's the oldest square in Paris. When I was on a school trip, we got tired because of the long walks, so we flopped down on the grass, eating, drinking, laughing and taking pictures for about an hour. It was loads of fun, messing around and relaxing in a beautiful environment like that. ![]() Utrecht, Utrecht Region, Netherlands ![]() Added Feb 3, 2011 Nice atmosphere, friendly waiters and proper Italian food for a very reasonable price. ![]() Bad Bentheim, Lower Saxony Region, Germany ![]() Added Jan 30, 2011 Beautiful medieval castle, where you can roam freely or with a guide. You can go high up on the walls an look out over Bad Bentheim. They serve a decent apple pie in the courtyard cafe. ![]() Utrecht, Utrecht Region, Netherlands ![]() Added Jan 29, 2011 Great laid-back vibe, mainly due to the different types of people that go there. ![]() Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil, Brazil ![]() Added Jan 29, 2011 I love this beach. We rented an appartment 2 feet away from this beach. I could smell the ocean from my bedroom. It's a lot less crowded than Copacabana, so it's a lot more relaxed to hang out at. The sun is just as bright, the sand is just as white and the sea is just as blue, so why people don't go here more often is beyond me. I love the whole atmosphere of the beach, the little stalls where you can rent beach chairs for 3 reais a day, buy coconut water (in actual coconuts that they hack open on the spot), and the merchants who sell grilled gambas. I was there for a month and loved every minute of it. I really want to go back to Rio, and especially Ipanema beach. The lowdown on Helena K.What's this person like as a travel companion?
