This is Vancouver's own "It could be anywhere in the world" shopping street, complete with all the same clothing chains as any city in the US and Canada, and many of the same as in Australia and Europe. The restaurants don't scream quality, perhaps because it is always so ridiculously crowded that they don't need to be good to do well. If you want to shop, I would much more recommend the local designers shops on the following streets: West 4th; West Broadway; Main Street (Between Broadway and King Edward); Commercial Drive (Between Venables and Broadway); Gastown: Dream, Dutil, etc... I would highly recommend picking up a Modern Urban Guide map, which is free from most local designers shops, and many local restaurants.

It is a skyline icon of Vancouver. Not so much a tourist site as a convention centre/cruise ship dock. Apparently, Buzz Aldrin, the astronaut, left his handprints in the cement in one of the back stairwells.

I highly recommend Rocky Mountain Flatbread (Pizza) at Cypress and 2nd, very close to Kits beach. Bus #22 and #2 will get you there from Knight Street, La Casa Gelato, Chinatown, Downtown, Davie Village, and from the other direction from West 4th and West Broadway, etc...
The beach itself is well worth visiting. It is next to Vanier Park which is home to the Vancouver Museum, the Planetarium, and the annual Bard on the Beach Shakespearean festival. Further up there is Jericho Beach, the Spanish Banks, and then around the tip of UBC, Wreck Beach (the nude beach). Across the water (there is a little ferry from Vanier Park) is Sunset Beach and English Bay Beach. So you can easily make a whole day of Beach hopping.

This is one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Vancouver. There are loads of characters so it is great for people watching. Tons of great restaurants and quirky shops. Great view of "The Lions". Here are some of my picks: Havana, Theresa's, The Peoples Coop Bookshop, Bandidas, etc... There are also many places I have been meaning to try. I have heard good things about Harambe. Not far away is La Casa Gelato (Venables @ Glen; on bus route 22) and the Waldorf (Hastings @ Maclean). The Rio theatre often has midnight showings and double features and cool stuff like that. The Libra Room often plays live jazz music, and on warm summer nights, opens up their garage style door so the music flows out onto the streets. Transportation: Bus number 20 gets you there from downtown. It is convenient because it drops you anywhere on the Drive you want. It is inconvenient because it takes longer and goes through the dodgy bit of downtown first. The Skytrain goes to Commercial/Broadway (@ the equivalent of East 9th and Commercial Drive) Most of the good restaurants and cafes are between Venables (maybe 5 blocks off 1st) and 11th.

The steam clock is one of the lamest tourist sites in Vancouver. It does make me smile if I am nearby and hear it go off though, I must admit. It is in Gastown, which is right on the doorstep of the DTES, so as a tourist unfamiliar with the area, I would recommend sticking to the cobblestoned streets after dark in that neighbourhood. There are lots of local designers which have been setting up lovely boutique shops in that neighbourhood as well, so as a result, Gastowns shopping is half tourist-trap, half local designers shops.

One of the better value tourist sites in Vancouver. Takes about half an hour to walk around, beautiful tropical gardens and birds. From outside there is a really great view of the city.
The fastest way to get there would probably involve taking the Canada Line part of the way. translink.ca for more info. They have a student discount.

They have lots of amazing works. Dali, Picasso, Monet, Gaugin, etc....

I felt, the most authentic souq we visited in the middle east.

Rating is for the view. Please note, that although the most beautiful and amazing place on Earth, most travellers don't leave without a decent bout of food poisoning.

Clovelly is one of the destinations on the Bondi-Coogee beachwalk. You can do it in a couple of hours, or better yet, make a whole day of it, stopping at beaches and cafe's along the way.

The rooms were comfy and warm, good showers, there was free internet, a fridge, coffee and tea, and it was in an excellent location. Also, when we checked in we were given a tour, a map, all the information we needed and on checkout we were able to leave our bags as long as we wanted. It was a great hostel, and would definitly reccomend it.

One of the MOST amazing sites I have ever seen!

A really fun afternoon! Try several wines and a cocktail, many other options as well, plus a how to taste wine session. And a massive wine store so you can buy bottles of the ones you like.

Best restaurant in Whistler, great view over the square, great food, great drinks, reasonably priced.

We were here in 2003 and at that time I liked Greenwich best, but this time around I love Camden, it is like an endless maze of interesting market stalls. Something for everyone. A beautiful canal, lots of great restaurants, and fair trade coffee all over the place!
