Page 1 of 10 My Reviews![]() Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden ![]() Added Sep 2, 2008 One of the finest Nordic museums of Classical Antiquities. A must for classicists, and a fine way to spend a few hours. Noteworthy are the very nice café and better-than-average museum-shop. ![]() Foligno, Umbria Region, Italy ![]() Added Sep 2, 2008 A nice Romanesque building with fine exterior decoration. The interior, sadly, has been destroyed in the 19th century and is now rather devoid of anything interesting. ![]() Qanawat, Damascus and Southwest Syria, Syria ![]() Added Jun 27, 2008 A most interesting complex of Pagan and Christian houses of worship from the Later Imperial period in the Syrian village of Qanawat. Exquisite decorative friezes in the local style with heavy classicising influences, all carved of the local black stone of Hauran. The site is well-preserved, albeit a little confusing, and as such should be recommended for an experienced 'ruinist' only. ![]() Shahba', Damascus and Southwest Syria, Syria ![]() Added Jun 27, 2008 Nice urban ruins of a Roman provincial town of 3rd-4th centuries AD and birthplace of emperor Philip the Arab, incorporated to the living modern Druzi town of Shahba'. Mainly built of the local black volcanic rock of Hauran, the town offers a Roman theatre, baths and several public buildings. Recommended for a professional historian/archaeologist or a knowledgeable enthusiast. ![]() Shahba', Damascus and Southwest Syria, Syria ![]() Added Jun 27, 2008 Nice assortment of Roman ruins scattered all over the modern town of Shahba'. Mainly built of the rather impressive black volcanic rock of local provinence (a common enough material in Hauran), the buildings date mainly to 3rd and 4th centuries AD., after the name of the place was changed to Philippopolis in honour of emperor Philippus the Arab, native of the town. A theatre, baths and several public buildings are quite well preserved. Recommended for professional historians/archaeologists or knowledgeable enthusiasts. ![]() Aigina, Athens & Attica, Greece ![]() Added Jun 27, 2008 One of the most impressive sites of an Ancient Greek temple there are. Besides, the edifice itself is rather well preserved, with the internal order of columns intact. The view is spectacular. The lowdown on Antti L.What's this person like as a travel companion?
