Page 1 of 10 My Reviews![]() Portsmouth Village, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 30, 2008 Portsmouth Village is an abandoned small town which the National Park Service keeps maintained and open to the public. Several buildings are open for you to go inside, like the church, general store, post office, and life saving station. It is truly a cool place. You will want to go to the beach here, it is a MUST. The beach is pristine and almost deserted, great shelling here! Beware, the walk from the village to the beach is MOSQUITO INFESTED so take insect repellant. Also take sun screen, water, and snacks so you can stay a while and enjoy the place. ![]() Santa Cruz, California, United States ![]() Added Jul 30, 2008 This place is OK. It's hard to tell what is real and what is showmanship here, which is all part of the fun. If you get car sick or sea sick easily, you might get nauseous here. There is a neat mix of science, history, and BS going on here. We had a good time. ![]() Morehead City, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 29, 2008 On the waterfront in Morehead City, this place offers really good seafood including local catches of the day. Don't let the name fool you, this is a nice place! It's not fancy at all, but the food is good and it's a GREAT deal. Get there early for dinner and get a table with a wonderful waterfront view of Beaufort Inlet. ![]() Carolina Beach, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 29, 2008 If you like the simple glazed doughnut, you will LOVE Britt's! The doughnuts are hand made right in front of you, hot and fresh always. Located on the downtown boardwalk, so it's convenient to other shops and restaurants. ![]() Napa, California, United States ![]() Added Jul 29, 2008 Absolutely beautiful location, friendly folks (the owner served us at our tasting), and great wine. Can't be beat for a romantic setting. ![]() Chickamauga, Georgia, United States ![]() Added Jul 29, 2008 Wonderful place, beautiful location only 20 minutes from Chattanooga and 15 minutes from Lookout Mountain attractions. Cabins are rustic but have climate control etc. All cabins are different, many have kitchens. Can be a romantic getaway or a rustic retreat. Very friendly owners and staff! ![]() San Francisco, California, United States ![]() Added Jul 25, 2008 You can reach the island by a passenger ferry and spend a few hours there. DEFINATELY do the audio guided tour of the prison, it is worth it especially for history buffs. There are also some beautiful views of the city (San Francisco) and the bay for nice photo opportunities. ![]() Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States ![]() Added Jul 25, 2008 If you like cave tours, this one is pretty impressive. The cave is short compared to others, but there is a NICE waterfall at the end and they have lighting effects hooked up to magnify the experience. Nice clean facility, nice gift shop, also a little history. Do not go during a drought, the waterfall tends to be more of a trickle... ![]() Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 Awesome place. The fort itself is very cool with a gift shop and daily educational activities. Be careful in the fort, as one sign says "it was built for war, not safety"! Children should be watched closely as there are several dropoffs and trap door holes without railing. History buffs will love it! Also, the beach access here is great and there is plenty of free parking. ![]() Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 Awesome place. NOTE: THIS IS ACTUALLY IN ATLANTIC BEACH, NORTH CAROLINA! ![]() Cape Lookout, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 One of the most beautiful lighthouses I have visited, and the fact you can only reach it by boat makes it even more cool. You can spend hours here just walking the pristine uncrowded beaches. Some good shelling here! History buffs will want to walk through the keeper's house museum to read about the history of the lighthouse and the island itself. ![]() Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 Nice public beach access with free parking and "fairly" clean restrooms. It has a wooden walkway over the dunes, a gazebo and small playground. Nice clean beach here, close to a fishing pier. ![]() Harkers Island, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 Friendly and knowledgeable locals will take you by boat the the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. On the way, they will stop to show you and tell you about the history of the area, including The Graveyard of the Atlantic, The Wild Horses of Shackleford Banks, and German Submarines of WW2. ![]() White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 Beautiful but expensive, nice place to visit with a rich history. This place has been a favorite vacation spot for Washington D.C. politicians since the 1800s. Guided tours available of the facility including a now-defunct cold war bunker where the president and other political officials would go in case of a nuclear strike. ![]() San Jose, California, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 Awesome place for history buffs or if you're interested in paranormal stuff. A recommended stop! ![]() Powells Point, North Carolina, United States ![]() Added Jul 23, 2008 You could spend half a day in this one store! The hand made blown and stained glass is beautiful and the selection of antiques is great. If you are going to/from the north outer banks, YOU MUST STOP HERE! ![]() Flatgap, Kentucky, United States ![]() Added Jul 22, 2008 Beautiful but out of the way location. Great facilities. ![]() Bardstown, Kentucky, United States ![]() Added Jul 22, 2008 Great staff, great rooms in a beautiful historic home. Good wine with winery on site.
