Page 1 of 10 My Reviews![]() Melbourne, Victoria, Australia ![]() Added May 5, 2010 fitzroy is one the best neighborhoods in melbourne. its quite ecclectic, a mixture of styles. all sorts of handouts are found there. there is salsa places like the Laundry or the Night Cat, and then there is jazz and rock joints too. its one of those not-too-bothered style of neighborhoods. they say its changing though, its getting gentrified, and the artists are beginning to find it expensive and move elsewhere, as the box-shops move in. nice ecclectic trendy place though! ![]() Melbourne, Victoria, Australia ![]() Added May 5, 2010 awesome hostel. was my home for about four months in australia! mets lots of people there. it was a very nice and safe place, and right in the city but in a quieter more civil part of town. not that melbourne is too crazy. but it wasnt in like the high traffc area with tons of noise. also, near the victoria market-great food etc. lots of activities at the hostel, great info-easy to get ideas, meat travelmates and head into the interior. all in all, was a great base from where to see victoria!! ![]() Melbourne, Victoria, Australia ![]() Added May 5, 2010 awesome place. good beach (not as great as a caribbean beach) but its not just the beach thats the deal in st.kilda. its the total package. the life in this area of melbourne, from the nearby albert lake and park, the footy, the restaurant scene etc. you'll also catch some jazz, and lots of other genres playing in the bars and restaurants there. plus, there is summer salsa at the baths, and nearby city hall etc. lots happening! they may be about to destroy it though, from what some folks down under think. there is plan to buid a mall blah blah blah. hopefully, it will always be an interesting ecclectic place!!! ![]() Mumbai, Western India, India ![]() Added Jul 15, 2009 in mumbai, i simply wanted to get out of town as soon as possible! i stayed only as long as i could conduct my business and get a train out of there. it didn't help that i got there at the worst time of the year to visit, the hot humid summer, and i was almost broke! mumbai is india's most expensive and crowded city. in short, its not the kind of place you go to without a plan, and, certainly, not with a thin wallet! if you must visit mumbai, i would suggest that you get a nice place to sleep first, which will may cost a bit. but that way, you can handle the stress during the day, and then "escape" and recharge your batteries at night while at home, or at least have a friend or travel-buddy to speak to while traveling there. and i am the type who doesn't mind being alone! otherwise, i would say its not a place for the faint-hearted! ![]() Bandra, Western India, India ![]() Added Jul 15, 2009 this place is, i guess, the so-called "chic" places. let's start with the name. "zenzibar" is of course a play on the famous zanzibar island in tanzania, and it strikes one when they first see it. the surrounding area, bandra, couldn't be more different from the inside of this place. its the usual chaotic mumbai in bandra, but step into zenzibar, and you are in a cool lounge in london, san francisco or some other western metropolis. the folks there are brandishing rolexes on their wrists, designer perfumes, and it is safe to say the people in there are not doing badly at all. this spot is also one of the main salsa spots in mumbai. the classes are good, and the dancing is great. the youths in there are certainly dancing in a manner that would leave their more reserved parents' generation somewhat horrified, i would suggest. if you've spent your time in india seeing traditional india blah blah blah, this is where you see the new india, where a lot of the youths may have a western college degree, a job, probably in a tata or some other indian firm, and are certainly not to be underestimated at any level. they know whats happening around the world when it happens, and they know what it means to be liberal or conservative, and their new india's place in the global scheme of things. ![]() Macleodganj, Himalayan North, India ![]() Added Jul 15, 2009 Cape Diem is your one-stop sight for a lot of stuff, from coffee, tea, meals etc, and of course an opportunity to meet other travels and locals. it has a seating place up on the rooftop with great views. always a nice place to relax stress-free, and the stuff are real easy. nice place but i dont mean a "nice" place as in the "four star" mould. i mean nice as in the scheme of travel in india and macleod ganj. its a place where you go to be "easy" and don't complain about the tea, dishes, service of staff blah blah... that is not what your visit to india is about if you are looking for that kind of service go to the taj mahal or something in macleod you are happy to be in a real simple place, see the dalai lama when he's in town and just dont be a wusss cheers The lowdown on Fred R.What's this person like as a travel companion?
