The Zoo got a new pair of these super cute animals from China in Feb 2011. Because of their popularity, there are long line ups to see them and Zoo staff make sure the line keeps moving so that one can not truly enjoy watching these amazing creatures. This happened when I was there in Oct 20ll. It will probably be different when the novelty wears off. ![]() Bangkok, Central Thailand, Thailand ![]() Added Apr 10, 2011 Maybe it was the wrong time of day( mid afternoon) but the place was quite empty. The people around were mostly touts and vendors of the food stalls and other types of stalls. It's not quite what I had expected after reading about it in the guide books and other reviews. I saw better and tastier looking street food in other parts of Bangkok. There are plenty of travel agencies and internet places around. A young Israeli traveller who helped me with directions to Khao San Road told me that he thought it an uninteresting place and not much to see. just lots of noise and people. ![]() Kowloon, Hong Kong (SAR) ![]() Added Apr 5, 2011 Good alternative to the small chinese eateries that do not speak english or have an english menue. The food was very tasty and had a good variety of choices. The one I went to was across the street from BP International Hotel on Austin Road. It was very clean, spacious and the service was friendly and efficient. ![]() Bangkok, Central Thailand, Thailand ![]() Added Apr 1, 2011 Pratunam Wholesale Market is very quiet compared to Platinum Fashion Maill. It is gigantic dark maze of narrow streets with a tiny stalls that seem to go forever. The interior is not very inviting for the tourist as there is very little signage. Bargains are great if you overlook the surroundings and happen to come across something interesting. The perimeter of the market has normal shops. ![]() Bangkok, Central Thailand, Thailand ![]() Added Apr 1, 2011 Fantastic place to get cheap fashionable clothing and accessories at wholesale prices in an airconditioned modern building. ![]() Kowloon, Hong Kong (SAR) ![]() Added Mar 30, 2011 Great hotel, friendly, efficient staff and clean. Free internet available for guest use at the pub. complimentary english newspaper at the door every morning and a welcome drink coupon during my stay. There is a self serve laundry in the building. The room is fairly small, normal size for Hong Kong. It's very central,a couple mins walk to Nathan Road and Jordan Station MTR. Night markets and so many restauents near by. Really good location. ![]() Bangkok, Central Thailand, Thailand ![]() Added Mar 30, 2011 Nice, clean, spacious rooms with bathtub and large seperate shower. Good buffet breakfast,, not as much variety as another hotel I stayed at before but adaquate. Very convenient located to public transportation, 6 mins walk to Skytrain ( Nana station). Friendly helpful staff. ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jul 6, 2010 The place is quite chaotic but it does carry lots of Japanese snacks and other imported items. It is a food supermarket where you can buy prepared and fresh food plus almost everything under the sun. ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jul 6, 2010 This place had line ups around the block on Mother's Day. So we decided to try again on another day and we were not disappointed. The food was tasty especially the cheddar cheese biscuits. A good casual family restaurant. ![]() Waiki'i, Big Island, United States ![]() Added Jul 6, 2010 Ala Moana Centre is very large and a great place to spend the day away from the beach. The place is always busy with tourists because of the shopping. The Makai Market food court is the best in Hoholulu with so many food choices. ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jul 6, 2010 The place was really quiet with not very much to do. It could be because we were there in the afternoon on a weekday and there were no cruise ships at the dock. ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jul 2, 2010 very interesting and well laid out displays on the history of Hawaii and the Hawaii monarchy, ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jul 2, 2010 This musum has beautiful courtyards and an excellent collection of Japanese woodcut prints including the collection that was donated to the museum by the famous author, James A. Michener. He wrote the wonderful novel, Hawaii. ![]() Waipahu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jun 16, 2010 It was interesting to see how the immigrants from different countries live and worked together in very basic accommodations and pretty harsh working conditions ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jun 16, 2010 It was a very convenient location in the middle of Waikiki with a branch of the Macy's department store on the ground floor. It was clean, spacious and quiet. Jimmy Buffett's Restauant and Bar is on the lobby area as is the hotel's swimming pool. One of the perks of staying there was the first 15 mins of all long distance calls to anywhere in the USA and Canada was free. The hotel key card also provide 2 hotel guests free rides on the Pink Trolley bus that runs between Waikiki and Ala Moana Center for the length of their stay. Another plus, on the day of departure after checking out, a hospitality room can be arranged at no cost for 1/2 hour to clean up. ![]() Hale'iwa, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 Laid back rustic small village with many art galleries and neat shops. Good place to stop and enjoy a meal before heading to the beaches. ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 Collection are of works by Hawaii Artists and have some interesting and exciting works. It also has a gallery displaying alying many photos of hula masters and a video explaining the hula dance. ![]() Haleiwa, Hawaii, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 Fantastic tasting hot oven baked sandwiches and new york style hand tossed pizza with homemade dough and sauces. The place is like a large shed on the side off the highway with a small covered patio for seating. ![]() Kowloon, Hong Kong (SAR) ![]() Added May 1, 2010 Good basic hotel, freiendly helpful staff. Depending on the location of rooms, the walls might not be very sound proof. Great llocation for Metro and buses . Go out via the back entrance toward Pitt street to access the Metro and Nathan Road. Good money exchange places also across the street from the back entrance. Women Street is a couple of blocks away. ![]() Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong (SAR) ![]() Added May 1, 2010 I have stayed at The CityView 3 times (once when it was the YMCA) and they had all been good experiences. The rooms are clean and fairly spacous except for my last visit 3 weeks ago when the room I got was on the small side and not very sound proof . We could hear the water running for showers next to the wall where the head of the bed was placed. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful. For me the best thing about The Cityview is its location with the Metro and Nathan Road a couple of minutes away from the back entrance of the hotel by Pitt Street and one of the best money exchange places also across the back entrance walking towards Waterloo Road. ![]() Victoria, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jul 6, 2009 Excellent authentic Vietnamese food. The soup noodles are especially good ![]() Victoria, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jun 26, 2009 Great place for stocking up on books with out going broke. Victoria has many used books stores but this one is definitely the best and biggest. ![]() Richmond, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jun 9, 2009 Nice clean food court with many outlets to choose from. Super tasty authentic chinese food with lots of variety. ![]() Kyoto, Kansai Region, Japan ![]() Added Nov 28, 2008 The temple was being repaired when I visited but we had access to the gorgeous grounds of the garden. Ginkaku ji was a more interesting visit because of the gardens than the Golden Pavilion even though the temple did not have the wow factor of the Golden Pavilion. ![]() Kyoto, Kansai Region, Japan ![]() Added Nov 13, 2008 Around the corner on a path from the entrance, the unexpected sight of the Golden Temple with it's reflection on a still pond dotted with large and small islands just hits your senses. ![]() Dengfeng, Henan Province, China ![]() Added Nov 10, 2008 I didn't find the place very interesting. The temples are similar to most other temples in China except for the Pagoda Forest. There is little information for foreign visitors considering that Shaolin Temple is well known for its martial arts. ![]() Drumheller, Alberta, Canada ![]() Added Nov 3, 2008 We were visiting Calgary in 1986 and decided to drive thru the Badlands to visit the newly opened Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology. It was a chance for our 7 year old son to see the unique dinosaur countryside and the actual skeletons up close. The scenery was magnificent and the Museum was very interesting. According to their website it is even better now with more experiences to offer to visitors. www.tyrrellmuseum.com ![]() Luoyang, Henan Province, China ![]() Added Nov 2, 2008 The caves are very interesting and beautiful. A great place to spend a couple of hours and reflect on the artistic abilities of the thousands of workers who worked on these caves so many centuries ago. ![]() Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan ![]() Added Oct 29, 2008 Uniqlo 's clothing line is very fashionable and inexpensive. They are extremely well made and excellent for travelling. For cool weather they have wonderful fleece, cashmere and Heat tech underwear. For the warm season they have the fast dry cool wear. They also have a great line of jeans and specialty T shirts. This store is fabulous. There are smaller Uniqlo's all over Japan. ![]() Higashi-nippori, Kantō Region, Japan ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 Ueno Zoo is located in Tokyo's Ueno Park. The zoo's most famous inhabitant, Ling Ling, the giant male panda died in April 2008. The zoo has no giant pandas to replace him at this time. There is a red panda and many other animals, birds, reptiles to see. The zoo also have a monorail and several concession stands. It is quite compact and is a place that japanese families take their young children to on their days off. ![]() Funabashi, Kantō Region, Japan ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 Lalaport is a good way to try and understand how people in a region that has the same population as Canada go about taking care of their day to day needs. Japan is a land of contrasts between its history and it modernity and Lalaport provides useful context. ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 The Orsay Museum was a train station and a luxury hotel in the 1900. It was saved from demolition in 1977 when the state government decided to transform it into a museum. It opened on Dec 1,1986 and its collection covers the field of architecture, decorative arts, sculpture, foreign painting and photography from 1848 to 1914. The collection thus lie between those of the Louvre and the National Museum of Art. For anyone who love impressionist art, this is the museum to visit. The building is located on the left bank of the Seine and is beautiful. It was the highlight of my trips to Paris. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 Great place to spend the day. Take the bus as parking is pretty bad. There is a wonderful art gallery run by the Federation of Canadian Artists, a pottery and ceramic shop with unique and original pieces. For art supplies there is Opus, the art supply store and Kroma Acrylics.(they make their own line of paints) A building full of toys stores. a public market, playhouse theatre, Emily Carr School of fine arts, good restaurants, a marina and so much more. To return to downtown , take the water taxi. ![]() Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 The whole experience of staying in the attic of a historical building was much better than staying in a typical bland modern hotel. I enjoyed the ambiance of the sloped ceilings and the deep dormer windows and the hardwood floors. The property next to the hotel is the Katerina church with it small cemetery which made it very peaceful and made for an enjoyable approach to the hotel after a long day of touring. The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood rather than a commercial one and gives you a better sense of what Stockholm living is like. The nearby apartments and playground allowed you to witness ordinary Stockholm citizens just hanging around. ![]() Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan ![]() Added Oct 10, 2008 Stayed there Nov. 2006. Convenient location but the subway is a bit farther than 7 mins. away. Ueno station is about 20 to 25 mins walk. There is a shopping complex called the Rox across the street with a super market in the basement called Seiyu where you can stock up on cheap drinks and snacks. The room we stayed in were roomy (larger than the normal business hotels) and very clean which is the norm in Japan. Very helpful and courteous staff. ![]() Kyoto, Kansai Region, Japan ![]() Added Oct 9, 2008 Very clean straight forward business hotel in a very convenient location. Trains to Kyoto ran every 10 minutes and took only 8 minutes. The lowdown on Lena C.What's this person like as a travel companion? What do her friends really think?
