I'm Merel, live in Amsterdam. I'm studying at the moment, it's interesting but i can't waight to pack my stuff again and discover new places. I was fifteen when i travelled for the first time by my own, and since then there's a travelfire in me that's never off! When i have the opportunity i travel, sadly enough i haven't a lot of time or money at the moment. I'm working a lot to save up some money. I have plans to go in june to nicaragua and study some spanish and visit some friends.
I love it to meet new people, to chill at the beach, explore new cultures, explore new things. Holland is a nice country, but it's small and boring after a while, so i take every opportunity there is to leave holland!
My dream is to travel for an unlimited time, to go from mexico all the way down to brazil! Can't waight to really do that! but first i have to finish university and then i'll be travelling!

Arena Caliente is a great budget hostel. The local surfers are chilling over here, you get your own room, share the kitchen, toilet and shower! Every day opportunity to go to a beach close to san juan with the van! You pay around 6 dollars a night, they have a lot of films you can watch, can play x-box, darts and pingpong! Ask the local people who are chilling here if they want to joine you in the evening to go to Iguana bar!
A nice bar, one of the most popular bars(well one of the bars)in San Juan, nice people, good food, nice drinks! A great vibe and the people are always in for a little chat, here you will see a nice mix of local people and backpackers! The best place to go in the evening, but be carefull with the rum!!!
Managua, the capital. Nothing really interesting to see. You have the airport and you have to cross it when you're travelling in nicaragua. But try not to stay here, if you arrive with plane here try to go to granada(only half a hour drive). Take taxi's instead of buses, buses are dangerous all the local people told me that it isn't save for travellers to go in the local buses in managua. So if you have to change busstation in managua take a taxi, try to take a legal one and always discuss the price before you get into the taxi.
You have the beaches Poneloya and Las peñitas. both beautiful and quiet! You'll see a lot of nice houses over here, this are houses of the rich nica's or foreigners! I prefer las Peñitas here is a little bit more to do, stay here in playa rocas, are nice owners and they are good for there employees(not a lot of foreign people in nicaragua take care for there employees, here they own more money and they don't have the work whole day long!), have okay food, have internet, and clean rooms!
The see is really rough, if you love adventure rent a surfboard on the beach and you will have an adventerious day. It's also a good place to go for a day, take the buss in Leon in the morning(they are leaving every hour, forgot the name of the station but there they now) and take the buss back around 6 something in the evening and then you had a nice chilling day on the beach!

Beautiful quiet beach, great for surfing or just chilling on the beach. You can stay on the beach, in a hostel or camping. but the most people who are going to maderas, stay in san juan del sur and take a shuttle bus and stay here for one day.
It's really quiet nothing to do(well surfing, relaxing, walking and stuff but no night life!)A really nice place to relax and get new energy for the rest of your trip!

Beautiful island, hike up the volcano maderas, it's hard but worth it! Rent a mountainbike, to have a 'nice' ride, be prepared your ass will hurt after it! You can't miss isla de ometepe when you visit nicaragua!
