La Paloma lodge located in Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula was probably the highlight of my Costa Rican adventure! This lodge was truly an experience to be one with nature.
The rooms are exposed to open air, so no air conditioning, but plenty of ways to cool off making the trek down to the beach or in the pool. The rooms view the surrounding rain forest and the ocean.
The only electricity is provided by a generator. The main dining area is made up of several tables and guests are seated with other guests at large dining tables. We had a great time getting to know others from around the world. The meals were phenomenal and served in courses. Each dinner is preceded by a Happy Hour for all guests to come and mingle and listen to the surrounding sounds of the rainforest.
You arrive at La Paloma by boat and then make a hefty trek straight up hill to the lodge.
Guests have many wild and nature driven activities to choose from during their stay. Tours through the rainforest, snorkeling, scuba diving, night tours with the "bug lady," or taking out kayaks. One adventure after another. All organized by the lodge. They also supply you with the equipment you need.
Your room windows are open and you are observed by the local wildlife such as monkeys and colorful macaws. The local flora is equally as breathtaking.
Even with the open air we weren't really bothered much by bugs. Although you don't want to have your lights on much at night in your room.
Each room has a hammock that hangs on the outer part of the view deck. What a relaxing activity to swing lazily in a hammock surrounded by a rainforest full of nature in all its glory.
The lodge does have full bathroom facilities.
If you choose any activities that involve being wet, the lodge staff will collect your wet clothes, towels, etc. for drying as air drying anything on the line will never dry due to the dampness in the air from the ocean.
The staff is extremely helpful and guests do not want for much. It was a delight being a guest at this lodge and I HIGHLY recommend this experience.
