This is a great restaurant located in Tananger, Norway (10 miles from Stavanger). If you like seafood, check this place out. There is also a small hotel attached to the restaurant if you wish to stay there. I had a fantastic fish dinner there on a Friday evening. I highly recommend this place!
This is a basic, functional hotel that primarily caters to business travelers whose offices are near the airport (Tananger). It is by the airport and about a 20 minute drive to Stavanger. There is nothing else by the hotel except the airport. Cost is less than what you will pay in Stavanger which is it's main selling point. Great buffet breakfast which is included in price. They also offer a buffet dinner which goes until 10 PM. Rooms are nothing special but they are clean. As a tourist, staying in Stavanger is probably what you want to do. However, if you want to save money, stay here and take the bus into town. The hotel offers free internet service and has terminals in the lobby. Staff is friendly and helpful. TIP.. Traffic can get congested during "rush hour". If you have a flight leaving at 8 or 9 AM, you may want to consider staying at this hotel versus fighting the traffic from Stavanger to the airport.
This is one of my favorite places to have a beer or three. I've gone in there for just one beer and ended up closing the place down at 3 in the morning! This is primarily a bar for expats and visitors but it caters to everybody. It's also a gogo bar so there are plenty of friendly ladies who will be glad to chat you up if you look lonely. TQ boasts an awesome music collection featuring rock and roll music that spans the entire era from the 50s to the present. It opens at 1 PM and closes around 3 AM. Check this place out!!
I've been to New Orleans and the French quarter many times. I have always enjoyed myself there. In general, it's pretty safe but stay away from the north end of the quarter that faces Rampart street. There isn't much up there and that area adjoins the "projects" (north of Rampart) which you want to avoid. Check out cafe du monde for a coffee and beignet. Check out the bars on Bourbon street. Check out the jazz scene. Go to Fitzgeralds and drink a hurricane or skylab fallout. There are lots of cool places to stay in the quarter that fit all budgets. My favorite is the royal Sonesta hotel. I was just in New Orleans yesterday and the place has bounced back from Katrina. So if you have been avoiding New Orleans because of the hurricane aftermath, you need to reconsider this destination.
If you are in Calgary and looking for a place to have a drink, I would recommend the James Joyce. It's popular with the locals and the after work crowd. The pub strives to maintain an irish themed atmosphere. It's not the same as being in a pub in Ireland, but it makes a decent attempt at it. It serves some good food, tasty appetizers, and of course Guinness beer! In the warmer months, they also have an outdoor patio. Worth checking out if you are looking for a place to have a beer in Calgary.
If you are into crystal, then Waterford crystal needs no further explanation if you are visiting southern Ireland. However, the factory has recently filed for bankruptcy and the visitor center is closed. The future status of this business is unclear so avoid disappointment by checking their website for the latest details.
This is a five star hotel smack in the heart of the French quarter. It's not a cheap place to stay, but if it's outside your price range, just visit the bar which faces Bourbon street. This complex is ground zero for Mardi Gras. In fact, you need a pass to get into the place when Mardi Gras is happening. If you can afford it, definitely stay there! Rates drop significantly during the summer months.
This is your typical neighborhood bar. U&I is an institution in Traverse City. I first visited this place 25 years ago and I don't think it has changed a bit since. It's popular with both locals and tourists. Food can also be ordered there. They are famous for their gyros. Staff is friendly. This is a place where you will be welcome. I always stop in there when I am in Traverse City.
Great place to quaff a beer and meet friendly people. The owner, Terry, is a world traveler and will gladly give you advice on the places he has visited and lived. Among them is the Falkland islands. As it's a small pub, you can't help but meet other patrons. Enjoy!
