Derek Schuurman is a freelance travel writer, author and keen naturalist. He first visited Mauritius in 1986 and Madagascar in 1992. Subsequently he has frequently returned to the western Indian Ocean islands and various African countries as a specialist tour operator and on press assignments. He currently works in London for the award-winning tour operator Rainbow Tours (www.rainbowtours.co.uk). He is also a regular contributor to Hilary Bradt’s Madagascar: The Bradt Travel Guide and Philip Briggs’ Uganda: The Bradt Travel Guide; Conservation International’s Lemurs of Madagascar and most recently, to Sarah Siese’s Green Heaven.
