Waikiki Beach is lovely (especially the sunset, but this is Hawaii, after all!), but too touristy and crowded for my tastes, but should you be on Oahu, you really should go visit to at least see what all the fuss is about. If you're looking for lots of action, you'll find it here. Certain parts of the beach are nicer than others, so be sure to ask those in the know (i.e. locals) which hotels on Waikiki have the best sections of the beach. Wear lost of sunscreen and, most importantly, have fun =) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Mar 23, 2010 It's heartbreaking. I was living in New York at the time and it is a day I will never forget. Ground Zero is a place to remember and honor all those who lost their lives on that terrible day, as well as a place to remind ourselves that everyday is not guaranteed to us, and what a blessing each day truly is. ![]() Snoqualmie Falls, Washington, United States ![]() Added Mar 23, 2010 Beautiful and definitely worth the trip if you're ever in Seattle. Though it may be cold and damp, the falls are especially gorgeous in the fall/winter. If you're on the fence, trust me, go, you'll be glad you did. ![]() Athens, Athens & Attica, Greece ![]() Added Feb 23, 2010 One of the true wonders of the world. A must see if you have the opportunity to go to Greece, you can't leave without having seen it firsthand. The seat of Western Civilization for pete's sake (being Greek, my mom would be so proud to hear me say it =) ![]() Victoria, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 22, 2010 Incredible. Now keep in mind that I am not a garden or flower fanatic, but this place is so beautiful and impressive that you honestly don't have to be to REALLY enjoy this place. Worth the trip up from Victoria, B.C., and a great day trip, especially when everything is in full bloom. If you're on the fence, go -- you'll love it. ![]() Kailua, Maui, United States ![]() Added Jan 22, 2010 Gorgeous, but it's not on Maui, like Travel Brain says, but on Oahu. Again, gorgeous with a capital G. It does get super windy, so watch those beach blankets! A little further up is Lanikai Beach, so be sure to check that out too =) ![]() Los Angeles, California, United States ![]() Added Dec 17, 2009 Definitely a place to check out if you're in Tinseltown, but super touristy and pretty developed. But you have to check out the "Stars" (on the sidewalk, that is) and Manns Theater, to say you have. All-and-all, overrated, but when in LA, you should check it out, regardless. ![]() Kailua, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Dec 17, 2009 Absolutely heavenly. One of the most gorgeous stretches of beach anywhere. Be careful though about the wind - it can get gusty sometime. ![]() Chicago, Illinois, United States ![]() Added Nov 21, 2009 It a cool public piece of art. If I remember correctly, it's smack dab in the middle of the "business district" (Chicago doesn't really have a business district per say, but it's late and my brain is tired =) Anyhow, it's a cool thing to catch if you happen to be passing thru, but I would say if you're looking for art while in Chicago, in addition, be sure to also check out the Art Institute. ![]() Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States ![]() Added Nov 7, 2009 You know, it's okay. It's everything you'd expect it would be. Two words - Spring Break. I didn't go during spring break, and the place surrounding the beach looks like it's seen better days. Kind of run down. I'd say skip it, and if you're in FL, check out the other side, the Gulf Coast side - lovely beaches but not as well known. Have fun! ![]() Chicago, Illinois, United States ![]() Added Sep 17, 2009 Oh, it is awesome, especially in the summer - lots of cool things around, like the Shedd Aquarium, The Art Institute, and Soldier Field (da Bears...) - the fountain is lovely and be sure to ride the Ravenswood L for a great (and cheap) tour of the city and the Loop. ![]() Rome, Lazio Region, Italy ![]() Added Sep 15, 2009 Absolutely wonderful, and incredibly beautiful, especially at night. Incredibly romantic and magical, though it is a really, really popular tourist destination (for good reason) it will most likely be very crowded, but when in Rome, you must visit. Bring a few coins, turn your back to the fountain, make a wish, and toss them over your shoulder =) ![]() Honolulu, Oahu, United States ![]() Added Sep 11, 2009 It is a very humbling place. It is very quiet and still - as if life and time has stopped. It does feel very much like a final resting ground for the many that lost their lives that day. I think it is a very important place to go for everyone who visits Oahu - to remember and to never forget. ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Sep 10, 2009 It truly is one of the coolest things ever. I currently live in Seattle, but years ago, before I moved, I took the Underground Tour - it's super fascinating, in a fun, non-history-class kind of way - you find out about all this random and crazy history - i.e. bet you didn't know that there is a whole underground level to Seattle, that at the turn of the century was actually the ground floor - and not underground as it is now. If you like history, you'll love it, and even if you hate history, you'll love it. Do it - no matter what time of year it is, or what the weather is (it is Seattle after all =) - you'll have a blast =) ![]() Chicago, Illinois, United States ![]() Added Sep 10, 2009 Do it - the elevator ride up is an experience in-and-of-itself, and you can actually feel the whole building sway in the wind - it's eerie for sure, but in a cool way; it's one of the most amazing architectural feats in the world - that alone should be enough reason to experience this awesome, man-made wonder. The view, as you can imagine, is pretty great, but for an even better one, be sure to also check out the Hancock Building's Observatory while you're in town - the view from there is just spectacular. Have fun =) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Sep 10, 2009 It's still neat, but has definitely become gentrified and yuppified - the Village's bohemian days are long gone unfortunately due to the super-high costs of living in the area, but it's still worth worth visiting if in NYC - A definite "Must See": be sure to check out some great street b-ball - take the subway and get off at the West Fourth Street–Washington Square subway station at Sixth Avenue, walk upstairs and there you'll see the West 4th Street Courts, where you'll catch some of the best players in NYC -- even better, it's awesome entertainment for free =) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Sep 8, 2009 It's awesome - the view, as you can imagine, is stellar, and being able to see the Chrysler Building from that vantage point? That alone would make the price of admission worth it. You have to do it for that alone. Touristy without a doubt, and you do feel a bit like cattle being herded to the elevators up to the observatory, but you can't go to NYC and not experience it. ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Sep 8, 2009 It's cool, but can get a little seedy, honestly. That said, there are some cool places around there, like Bowlmor Lanes, which for a town where space is at such a premium like NYC, to have a bowling alley to go to and bowl? Pretty unheard of and totally awesome =) ![]() Anguilla, Anguilla ![]() Added Sep 8, 2009 If I could give it 6 stars, I would. It really is paradise and, hands down, my most favorite beach in the world. Yes, the world. Beaches are huge factors for me when planning vacations, and thanks to my brother (and travel companion!)'s amazing researching abilities, we've been able to experience quite a few of the most amazing beaches in the world. If you're looking for great swimming, very little waves (though rare, it does happen, though - if that's the case, go to Shoal Bay East, and you'll be guaranteed smooth swimming - though it will be crowded, but still absolutely fabulous =). But, Meads Bay, you get very few people (a couple of dozen, really), incredible swimming, pristine, soft white sand, quiet, serenity, and the most incredible azure blue waters you've ever seen. One word: heaven. ![]() Los Angeles, California, United States ![]() Added Sep 7, 2009 Truth: It is a bit of a "plastic" town, pricey, can be touristy, and yes, the smog is as bad as they say, but if you know that coming in, it's a fun town to check out. Make sure to rent a car, wear your sunscreen, and make sure to experience Santa Monica Pier and the boardwalk, which is especially glorious in the winter months (especially for all you northern folk =) ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Sep 6, 2009 It really is a must see if you visit NYC. I used to live there, and it really is quite beautiful - and massive. Be sure to stay below 120th/125th when it starts getting dark - it can get sketchy when you start getting north of that so be sure to stay safe and have fun ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Sep 6, 2009 It's a great place to watch a concert, especially if it's your favorite band - it's it's own institution, really, but the surrounding area is a bit seedy. ![]() Chicago, Illinois, United States ![]() Added Sep 6, 2009 Personally, even though the Sears Tower is a must see - it's huge and the elevator ride up is an experience in and of itself - the view from the Hancock Observatory can't be beat, and MUCH better than the view from the Sears Tower - highly recommended =) The lowdown on Christina L.What's this person like as a travel companion?
