Page 1 of 10 My Reviews![]() Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico ![]() Added May 4, 2009 This is an interesting Mayan city and a must to see if you're in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It's located on the Caribbean Coast and it was a sight to see a Mayan ruin in a cliff overlooking a perfect turquoise water. This area has a beach and visitors can dip in the water to cool off after a hot day roaming around the ruins. Just be wary, because sometimes the water could be rough. This used to be an important area for the Mayans because it was also used as a trading post as it was near the ocean. It was also a strong defense against invaders. The temple of the wind, was also an important building, because it made sounds whenever hurricane reached force winds. You could say, it was like a warming siren for the whole community. In one of the temples, they had a mural of one of their gods, known as "the descending god". They believed that this particular god, went down to earth and received offerings from the people. We also saw that one of the temples had a stucco face masks, very interesting. This is the perfect place to enjoy history and the surrounding Caribbean Coast! ![]() Xelha, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico ![]() Added May 4, 2009 This is a beautiful natural water park, very good snorkeling place. We took the combination tour of Tulum and Xel-Ha, and we felt that we're not given enough time to enjoy the activities in Xel-Ha. We enjoyed snorkeling in the inlet, saw many colorful fish, the water was so clear. This is an all-inclusive park and our entrance fee included: locker, towels, drinks, buffet lunch, showers and life jacket. If you'll use their snorkeling equipment you need to deposit $20. Inside the park, we took the Sea Trek tour, they let you wear a diving helmet for 45 minutes at the price of $45. We felt this was a waste of time and not worth it, the water was full of silt, saw only a few fish and touched the stingray. No big deal, just skip this activity. They also offer swim with the dolphins and snuba, we didn't try any of this coz we're pressed for time. The food inside the park was really good, lots of choices at the buffet, worth the price. If you want to go to Xel-ha, remember to bring your own bio-degradable sunblock lotion, that's the only that they allow you to use. They check bags before they let you enter. I suggest that you spend a full day in Xel-Ha in order to enjoy all the activities this park has to offer. The lowdown on Esmer K.What's this person like as a travel companion?
