Banawe, Luzon Islands, Philippines
The Ifugao rice terraces (IRT) was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995 fulfilling criteria 3, 4, and 5. It "epitomize(s) the absolute blending of the physical, socio-cultural, economic, religious, and political environment, a living cultural landscape of unparalleled beauty." The sites are found in four municipal clusters: 1. Banaue- Batad and Bangaan; 2. Hungduan (entire municipality); 3. Kiangan (Nagacadan); 4. Mayoyao (central part) cluster. Since all its highland municipalities are peopled by Ifugaos- a rice terrace-building group- many areas are also in a list for possible inclusion in the heritage list.
