Red-and-white-striped booths and '50s-style diner tables make this an inviting spot to enjoy tasty Filipino fast food, from breakfast to dinner.

You might expect strawberry milkshakes and burgers, but there's no sign of those American favorites here. You'll find only chicken or pork adobo, pancit, lumpia and sinigang (a scrumptious stew made with peas, potatoes, tomatoes, tamarind and pork), with Filipino desserts such as ube (purple yam), leche flan, and turon (fried banana fritter), among others.

For $4.25, you'll get any two entrees served with a mound of steamed rice. Consider sharing; portions are generous. The restaurant's buffet is upstairs, where you'll find the same dishes, as well as some seafood additions like fried shrimp and steamed halibut. For $8.95, the buffet is all-you-can-eat and includes a drink and dessert.

You can't leave without trying a Halo Halo Special, a refreshing, eclectic mix of Filipino desserts blended into one icy drink you eat with a spoon. Its layers of goodies include red and green gelatin, sweet corn, red beans and jack fruit, which are then covered with crushed ice. A generous amount of evaporated milk is poured into the mix, followed by a scoop of Filipino ice cream and small pieces of ube and flan that top it off like nuts on a sundae. The combined flavors are delightful and just the right ending to a Filipino meal.

Conching's catering menu is even more diverse than its restaurant menu. Choose from traditional pork, beef, fish or chicken dishes cooked in a variety of ways, such as tocino, asado, apritada and diniguan, all served with your choice of vegetable and noodles. Prices for party trays range from $22 to $66.
