Tavern on the Green is a fun experience while in Central Park. You know you're in for a treat when you see all the shrubbery in the front neatly trimmed to represent different animals.
I was there for an afternoon in the summer and it hit the spot with the great atmosphere, relaxation, and beer in hand.
Quality hostel in good location. Lots of interesting travelers pass through this place. Architecture is very interesting with all kinds of unique rooms. Cozy and comfortable. Friendly staff
I hiked the Seven Hollows Trail and really enjoyed it. Being down in a series of hollows and small canyons make this hike interesting. Add to the mix surrounding bluffs, a grotto, and natural landbridge, and you got yourself a complete hike.
Fantastic colors and hoodoo formations abound in this remote area just east of Cedar City. Hiking options, scenic drive options.
Cedar Breaks campground has 30 campsites and is primitive camping, but still offers a bathroom with sinks and running water. Every night in the summer a ranger hosts an evening campfire program in the campground ampitheater. Pretty interesting stuff- they talked about owls last time I was there.
This is a hidden part of Utah- not many crowds here. Great getaway spot. It is high altitude and gets cold at night. Even in summertime it can get down into the 30's.
The best place around if you want to see fall colors, usually in late November. Nice spot for hiking, camping, bringing your dog. Great for a weekend trip. Be sure to check out Bandera which is close by.
Good for a weekend outing. Nice park in Central Texas for hiking, camping, tubing, relaxing. Very popular for spring break, in the summertime, and on weekends. I recommend the tube ride down the Frio River for a fun and relaxing time.
My favorite store in all the land. I didnt realize it til my last girlfriend noted that I had either a Ron Jons shirt, shorts, or hat on for every day of the week.
I hate shopping but love going to this store. Cool digs, and nice set up.
Best upscale hotel in Springdale. Huge pool, friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms. Very reasonable on price. Great value if you want a nice hotel while visiting Zion National Park
Nice hotel/lodge/restaurant/general store right outside the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. They have internet terminals where you can pay to go online. Cozy lodge area
There's a reason why it's one of the most popular bars on bourbon street. More accurately, there are a few reasons: great atmosphere, lively people, lots of energy buzzing around the place, great hurricanes. Whether its a more quiet afternoon drinking session or a more active night out, you gotta check this place out.
What an imagination and lifestyle for Mr Hearst! This place is very impressive. He spared no expense when building it, and payed attention to every little detail.
Not your run-of-the-mill tour. The views from the top are unbelievable, and my favorite is the outside pool. Very interesting and worthwhile.
One of a kind! Intensely surreal and mystifying landscape. If you are ever near I highly recommend.
Crowded in spring and fall because thats the best weather. Hot in summer, but I've camped in the summer and basically had the whole place to myself. Did not camp the whole day cuz its too hot in mid day. Arrived a few hrs before sunset. The night sky is spectacular and you can see stars for miles. I saw 5 shooting stars in just a few minutes.
I'm not big into rock climbing with gear and ropes. But I do love to monkey around and free climb all the interesting rock formations. Great playground.
I've taken some European friends to Joshua and it blew them away. One said that they have nothing like it back home to compare to, and was their favorite part of our weeklong trip.
With all the rock formations and natural arches, its an archeologist's dream. Gotta do the Delicate Arch hike- but be forewarned its crowded at sunset and the people up there are serious about their photography. Landscape Arch is my favorite. And Double O is a great hike too.
Everyone else has said it but its very hot and dry. Don't underestimate, bring tons of water and hat/sunglasses/sunscreen.
Truly lives up to all the hype. Probably my favorite national park in the US. If I had the means, I could easily spend the whole summer exploring it. Glacier Point, Nevada Falls, Yosemite Falls, Mariposa Grove- just a few highlights.
Convenient and free shuttle system in Yosemite Village.
Not alot of people compared to the other national parks. This one is a gem. The imagery is spectacular, even surreal.
Since its so far away, I recommend at least 3 days exploring the park. If you want an all day hike and are in good shape, do the South rim which is about 15 miles roundtrip. Views at the top are amazing, and you can see maybe 50-100 miles out in every direction on a clear day, overlooking vast mountainous desert expanses.
For camping checkout Chisos Basin Campground. No mountain biking allowed, but you can bike on the main roads. Right outside the park is the town of Terlingua, famous for its chili cook-off. And you also have Marfa, famous for the Marfa lights.
It gets really hot in the summer. Spring and fall are best times to go. Even wintertime on a sunny day is a good time.
This is a cavern tour. Not the dirty, gritty caving where you crawl around. I prefer the twisting and crawling around, getting dirty. But, as far as caves go, even though its lighted and paved, still very impressive with its massive size and formations.
Watching the bats emerge at sunset is pretty cool.
My buddy who was working in San Francisco took me there. I picked up the menu and he told me to put it down. When the waiter came to take our order, my buddy said that we like chicken, pork, and beef. And with that, the cook whipped us up a tasty creation.
You are in Yellowstone and it is Old Faithful so I suppose you gotta see it. But don't get your hopes up because its not even in the top 10 for impressive sites in Yellowstone.
Some spots I prefer are Grand Prismatic, Castle geyser, Fountain Paintpots, and the lower falls of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
One of the greatest live music bars in Austin. It has an intimate setting inside and a relaxed deck outside. Always draws great bands and good prices on alcohol.
There are many things to do in and around the Guadalupe River. Tubing is a rite of passage if you live in Central Texas or are passing through. Nothing beats cooling off in the river and floating with a bunch of friends.
There are many outfits to rent tubes from. It runs about $15-20 per person which includes a shuttle ride back to the start.
There are outfitters in New Braunfels and Canyon Lake. New Braunfels is the most popular spot.
Every weekend in the summer it will be packed. If you have a family or want a quieter time go during a weekday or early on the weekends.
Big fun downtown. This is a 3 level establishment, with about 5-6 bars. Dance floor on one level, pool table on another, rooftop terrace.
If you are visiting from out of state, remember this is Utah. You have to buy a membership in order to drink at most bars. Its only $4 for a temporary membership which is good for 21 days
Such a beautiful and special place! Holly hit the head on the nail with her review!
The hike down is 8 miles to the village. The steepest part is the first two miles descending from the parking lot. The village has a few convenience stores with water, ice, milk, bread, etc. even ice cream. Prices are high though so pack in what you can. Then its another 2 miles to the campground, and you are greeted by Havasu Falls.
The campground fills up fast so the earlier you get there, the better. There are bathrooms and a running spicket for water which is ok to fill up your water bottle and drink from.
Make sure your meals are not too messy- they don't have trash cans at the campground so you have to bring your trash to the village or back up the canyon when you leave.
The helicopter option is a great and speedy way to get in and out. But it only flies 3 or 4 days a week. Check with the tribe to find out when it is scheduled to fly. Cost about $85pp.
I recommend hiking up and down. If you have anything heavier than a backpack rent a mule for $75. The mule can carry up to 4 medium sized packs or luggage.
Nice campground in Jackson, WY. Soft grass, a little creek running right next to it. Clean bathrooms, friendly owners. They have more RV spaces than campsites. If you want a campsite its best to call ahead for a reservation.
Right on the north edge of town so noise is not a problem and it's an easy walk into town
Cozy little pub with authentic wood furnishings. Lovely people, pleasant outside seating areas in front and back. Huge selection of beers. They usually have some sports on tv, with a British emphasis especially on soccer.
This place is great for getting together with friends for a casual, comfortable time. Not too loud, and in a great settiing in Rice Village.
I always get the steak burrito, but anything you get will please your taste buds. Elizabeth P is right about the creamy jalapeno sauce for your chips..so good:)
A microbrewery that offers about several tasty microbrews and they are only $2 regular price and $1 happy hour. Inexpensive tables for gambling. For an excellent calzone try that Italian counter in the corner
As much attention as it receives, to be there in person and see it is spectacular. My favorite spot is the beach to the southeast. Easy to get to. Take Marina Blvd west to Mason St and you will see the beach area to the north. It is right north of the Palace of Fine Arts
The best bakery is inside! I highly recommend this as a pit stop if you are driving to the north rim of the Grand Canyon you will pass it.
The best milkshake and the best cookies! Their milkshakes are to die for...if you have a sweet tooth you have to try one. They also have a puffy looking cookie called a chocolate chip parfait that is absolutely deelish!
One of the top hikes in the United States! You want to be in good shape or at least an active person if you are to do this hike. It is an overall steep hike and gets steeper towards the top. The last half mile is part hiking and part rock climbing. No worries though, because a linked chain is there for support in tough areas.
There is an obvious middle point where it becomes sand at the top of Walter's Wiggles. If you are afraid of heights, stop there and head back down.
Once you get to the very top, after the chains part, your reward is a breathtaking 360 degree view of the park. I recommend staying at the top for a good half hour to soak it all in.
Out of all the places I've hiked and hikers I've talked to, everyone who has done it has a special memory of this incredible hike.
Here's a tip: in the summertime I always start the hike in the afternoon, about 4pm. Reason being is that now you are in the shade for the majority of the hike up. It makes a huge difference when tackling this beast.
The owners and staff are the friendliest, safest, and most knowledgeable in Moab. We've been using them for years and always come back. Their enthusiasm shows in the excellent work they do, and it shows that they want to give you an amazing experience.
A hummer ride in Moab is a mandatory experience that you'll never forget. Out of all the places to ride hummers or ATV's, Moab is the best. And Highpoint Hummer always makes it happen!
HI Fisherman's Wharf is my favorite hostel in San Francisco. It has a huge kitchen w/ plenty of space to store your food, big lobby w/ plenty of helpful people working there, and great location.
There is a nice park right out front, a 5 minute walk to a close-up view of Golden Gate Bridge with beach area. A Safeway grocery store is close to stock up on food supplies. And Fisherman's wharf is an easy 5 minute walk.
Josie Woods Pub is the best kept secret of the Washington Square Park area. Located in the basement along Waverly Place, this little pub caters to everyone. Enjoy locally brewed beers along with your favorite classics. Kick back with the owner, Martin, a laid-back Irish fellow, or shoot pool with some of his friendly staff. In the winter, a cozy fireplace makes this place feel like home. A digital jukebox lets guests control the mood for the night - from club-like dance music to honky tonk, everyone is bound to have a great time!
Rain or shine, the Brooklyn Flea is one of New York's newest and hottest attractions. Over 150 vendors join together every weekend to host a FREE Flea Market. This isn't your grandma's flea market, either. While the array of vintage clothing, art, furniture, and jewelry is abundant, there are also a number of new creations by up and coming and renowned NYC artists. I'd rank it as the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon in NYC.
When in Salt Lake, it's mandatory you make a stop at the Red Rock Brewing Company. Between the relaxing atmosphere, great music, and friendly waitstaff, you'll forget that they also host an amazing selection of local beers. Cheers to you, Red Rock, you rock!
American Rambler Tours always makes a stop at Montana River Guides to end our tours with a bang. My first time riverboarding, I got an awesome scar on my leg because I didn't pick it up in time when going over a rock. It's now a badge of honor. For those that love white water, riverboarding is the closest encounter you can enjoy on the river. Not for the faint of heart, but will get any adrenaline-seeker's heart pumping.
before working for american rambler, i was a very happy customer. as a travel aficionado, i have traveled all over the world. the tours with american rambler still remain at the top of my list!
You certainly seem to know all about the national parks in the US. Thanks for the great info!
