You get three free samples if you just want to check out the wines. The tour is really well done and for $5 you get to taste 3 reserve wines at the end of the tour. The grounds are also fabulous and they have an outdoor theatre where they have special performances during the summer months.
I absolutely love the food here. It's a great place to go with a group of friends because you can order a ton of the tapas and then have a taste of everything. The mini onion soup ones are good and the kobe burgers.
Get the three meat platter, it is soooo good. My favourite is the corned beef but they are all delicious! I also love the knishes here. A truly original NY experience.
Lots of fun family activities to do. You can go to public swimming and use the waterslide or go to family skate time. This also houses the Wayne Gretzky Sports Hall of Fame.
I usually bike this trail and it is beautiful any time of year. You can also take the trail out towards Paris and Cambridge. Be sure to bring lots of water because there aren't too many places along the way once you get out of Brantford. If you want an easier ride do the trail from Ancaster to Brantford because the first part is mostly downhill.
A great ski/snowboard resort accessible for a day trip from Toronto. In the summer there are bike trails, hiking, golf and swimming. A nice weekend getaway any time of the year.
Gospel brunch sundays from 12:30 to 4pm is the time to go to this restaurant. Then you can hear the Simpsons, the husband-and-wife gospel duo who perform, while you enjoy your soul food brunch.
Great cider in a wonderful location. If you hae time I recommend the tour and then a pint on the patio. They also serve some food if you want to stop for lunch and a drink. A nice escape for the afternoon.
Wolfe island is a great escape for the day from Kingston. Take your bike and a picnic lunch and spend the day roaming the island. It is also a great place to go apple picking in the fall. If you just have an hour to spare. Hop on the ferry a the dock right downtown and ride it over to the island and back. It's free and the views are spectacular!
They do a brunch to to die for here (I recommend reservations). Or just browse the bakery for some fresh bread, scones, muffins, dessets or lunch options. I recommend the daily choice of scone with a cup of coffee.
This place is a great restaurant for a night out. I have never been disappointed by a meal here. The bread is fresh everyday and if you are one of the last to leave they put out he left over loaves of bread by the door for customers to take home. I highly recommend reservations especially on the weekend.
They have some fabulous flavours at this ice cream store. The waffle cones are made fresh in the store and it smells wonderful. Sometimes you can grab a bag of broken waffle pieces to take home with you...i highly recommend this!
This is the best ice cream that I have ever had. The campfire cream is worth the drive to Picton just to try. You can taste the local fresh ingredients used.
This is some of the best pizza that I have ever had. The restaurant is bring your own wine (one of the reasons I love to dine in Montreal!). There is usually a line up so get there early. It is a popular local institution, especially amoung university students. It is located a bit of the beaten track but once you are in the right area just someone for directions and I am sure they will know where it is.
This place is a Montreal Institution and a must visit so that you can taste some of the best smoked meat in Montreal. Everytime that I have been past this place there is always a line up outside waiting for a table, so be prepared for a wait or go early! You can also do take out but the atmosphere inside is something to be experienced.
If you want to try a true montreal style bagel then this is the place to do it! They make the bagels fresh onsite (you can see them behind the counter) and it's open 24 hours a day so you know the bagels are always fresh.
This park is an oasis of green space in the center of Montreal. I love to run up the pathway on the south side of the mountain at Peel Street to the Observatory at the top, which is a great work out with rewarding views of the city. You can also park at the top of the mountain and walk to the lake and the lookout if you have less time but it is definately worth a stop, whether for an hour or a day of playing.
This market is fabulous to vistit anytime of year. There is fresh seasonal products from local area farmers all year. The berries, peppers, corn and potatoes are all delicious. You can also get plants. There are butchers, bakeries, fromageries and seafood stores surrounding the market. There are also a lot of great options for lunch ranging from street meat to crepes to sit down restaurants where you can waste away the afternoon enjoying the atmosphere.
This bridge is most spectacular from afar. Take a walk alond the Thames and you will see how majestic it is from a distance. Have a picnic on the banks and wait for boats to go through it...quite a sight!
I recommend going on this at night. You can see all of the famous london attractions lit up. Be sure to plan ahead and book you ticket online. That way you can pick your specific flight time and don't have o wait in line (there are so many other great things to do in London...who wants to wait in line?)
This is a great place to do some camping. The beach is beautiful. There are some great restaurants in the town. Be sure to bring your bikes. Book way ahead if you are planning on camping as it is very popular during the summer months and fills up quickly. It also makes a perfect day trip from kingston or Toronto.
Don't forget to get some ice cream at Scoopers....sooo good!
There are so many great things to do in the canadian rockies but I definately wouldn't miss this one. The Columbia Ice Fields are amazing. You can hike up to the edge and take pictures by yourself (but can't walk on them) or you can do a tour. So many great hikes and camping. I recommend Saskatchewan Crossing. It has great sites on the river which is beautiful at sunset and sunrise (don't forget your bug repellant!)
A trek through Dogon Country is definately a once in a lifetime experience. You will hike along the escarpment from village to village and sleep in typical mud homes (or you can camp on the roofs). There is no electricity or running water in the villages. It is a very peaceful and enlightening journey. The people are very nice and welcoming. I recommend a local guide (not that expensive to hire one around Mopti) who will explain the history, culture, etc. and can even help plan your route, accomodations and meals.
A fabulous park! If you can't do the self support full trek then try the shorter W trek. You can stay at the refugios and leave your camping gear at home. If you have just a few nights then you can make one of the main refugios your base and do some spectacular day hikes. It may be a challenge to get to the park but it is well worth the time spent travelling.
A great little pub tucked away in the back streets. A great local crowd with some awesome brews on tap. Live music nightly. Pub food available. A cozy atmosphere with great live music for an awesome authentic english experience.
Not your average brewery tour but worth a few hours to see this high tech display. The best part is the pint you get to drink at the end of the tour with a great view of the city. And then buy all of your guiness swag in the store onsite.
A fabulous museum that is a must see for young or old. I highly recommend a trip to the IMAX theatre to catch a show. It is definately one of my favourite places in Ottawa and since I live here I get to visit it often. The location is stunning and provides a great location for photographers to get a shot of the parliament buildings from across the river.
This is a great historical building and deserves at least a few minutes to appreciate it's beauty (and wish that your local library was so full of history and inspiration!)
There are lots of great short hikes and wonderful lookouts in this park. If you have the time I would definately recommend doing one of the longer half or full day hikes to truly get a sense of the wonder of this park.
There are so many great things to do in this park. I highly recommend the fiery furnace walk guided by a park ranger. You have to buy a ticket in advance and they usually book up. You can only buy tickets for the hike up to 7 days in advance. The delicate arch hike at sunset is breathtaking (and busy). Just about any location in the park is beautiful at sunset or sunrise!
What a great place to grab a pint after a hard day of hiking, biking, rafting or climbing. The food is tasty and plentiful and the atmosphere relaxed and inviting. You are sure to make a few friends here.
This is a great day trip if you are spending a few days in San Sebastian. Just to see the building is inspiring. I would recommend at least a half day for the museum (if not more!). Bilbao is a cute little city with a market that oyou could wander around for a couple of hours.
This was an interesting and informative trip. I recommend at least half a day. During peak season it is very very popular and the lines can be quite long. Be sure to plan ahead and buy your ticket online or a day or two before you want to go. First thing in the morning is besta s it isn't as busy yet.
I loved the atmosphere here! You could wander around for days watching the street acts, going to random museums or just having coffee and watching the scene go by.
Not the best place to sleep (an unfortunate delay meant an uncomfortable and noisy night's sleep on a bench for me). But the airport is easy to navigate and the train to Frankfurt from the airport is cheap, runs often and is fast.
A stunning work of art that is a must see in Barcelona. I recommend walking between tourist sights in Barcelona because there are so many great buildings to stumble along on off the beaten track roads.
I camped here in Oct 2008 and it was one of the most beautiful parks I have ever stayed in. The campsite is literally on the egde of a canyon. The sunsets and sunrises over the landscape are breathtaking. October is a great month to visit because it is comfortable and sunny weather during the day but be prepared for a chilly night if you are camping (it is the desert afterall!)
