G. I figure two things spurred my travel obsession from an early age. First was National Geographic magazine, which opened my eyes to the outside world full of different cultures, landscapes and people. Second, which I attribute to my preference for wildlife destinations, was watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. This classic TV series has been often imitated, and for good reason - it was the best! Aside from that, it is odd that I'm a travel addict. I come from a family of non-travellers. Luckily, I believe I've inherited their allottment of lifetime travel opportunities. I prefer obscure and remote destinations over crowded cities. I'd take Mongolia over France, jungle ruins in Cambodia over a museum in Spain and the Witches market in Bolivia over a shopping mall in the US. A few future travel plans? I'd like to climb Kilimanjaro and stay at Crater Camp before the snow melts for good. I'd like to take the trans-Siberia Railway. I'd like to explore Western Africa. I'd like to hang out in new Zealand. Aside from those places, I have a dream to find a job that allows me to earn money as I travel. Does such a thing exist? I also have a dream to visit more than 100 countries around the world. I'm only 1/3rd of the way there. Travel dream #3 is to circumnavigate South America (fairly realistic) or Africa (fairly dangerous) via a kayak expedition. I think undertaking such a bold journey, which would take a few years at least, would make for a great documentary. Especially if done with a scientific approach to assess the heath of coastal waters, or if done for charity. Any companies or organizations out there want to sponsor and support such a journey? This up and comer is new on the beer scene in Sudbury and is also making waves with its solid food. Great burgers here, but also more unique offers. The tap and bottle selection of beers isn't massive, but they do get some of the best craft beers from Ontario, which are hard to find in Sudbury. The tap selection is definitely above average. ![]() Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Quaint and rustic little place. They brew their own beers, which are better than pretty much anything else you can get in town. The cask ales are a treat. Pretty basic in terms of seating and eating here, but for a night of pints this is the best place to go. ![]() Kansas City, Missouri, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Nice place, was quite popular when I visited. Many people eating dinner, lots of birthday parties and buddies watching the games on TV. The bar area is nice, wit ha huge Mug Club you can join. Beers were quite nice, the porter they had on tap was my favourite. ![]() Kansas City, Missouri, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Very nice burgers. the Blanc theme is evident in their simple and stylish furniture and white, bright bar. The most surprising thing is they have more than 100 bottles of beer available at a burger bar. Amazing. ![]() Kansas City, Missouri, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Wow, what a fun experience, this is real home BBQ cooking. The sandwiches are too tall to eat, they pile on the meat so high. Great tasting BBQ. ![]() Phoenix, Arizona, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Stayed here because I had to go back and froth to the airport a few times. It turned out to be a great hotel. The location is a bit industrial, but if you have a car it is easy driving. Staff were great and the room was a real treat. the Aloft brand is great value. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 The chicken shawarma sandwich from Imbiss remains one of my all-time favourites in Toronto. Perfectly spiced and always fresh and filling it is a great lunch time option. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 For Sushi, this place is decent. To be clear I am not a big fan of sushi and I usually stick to the dynamite rolls and teriyaki items, but this place has enough variety that I've tried plenty and enjoyed it all. Very popular with their all you can eat. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Nice place to stay in Toronto, fair prices and within walking distance of virtually everything down town. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 The rooftop bar area is perfect, with great views of the CN Tower and Toronto skyline. Fantastic location. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Nothing special. It is on John Street downtown, which makes it easy to meet up with people but the prices and selection of drinks and food are fairly uninspired. Worth stopping for a quick drink, then moving on. ![]() Grand Canyon Village, Arizona, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 This is a solid, wonderful nature trail. The views of the Canyon are stunning, especially early in the morning. I did part of this trail at sunrise and got some amazing photos of the sun peaking up over the end of the Canyon. Parts of the trail are steep and narrow, so you do need some level of fitness. A great trail very conveniently located close to Bright Angel Lodge. ![]() Grand Canyon, Arizona, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Very nice location for hiking around the south rim. The services here are abundant too, so you can hop on the park shuttle bus or dine at one of the restaurants. Lodging is decent, the price is high for what you get. But here it is all about convenience, not comfort. ![]() Kansas City, Missouri, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Great place if you enjoy beer. Food is pretty typical pub grub but the beer list is immense and impressive. They had Bells Hopslam and Avery Maharaja on tap when I went. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 8, 2011 Pricey but great food. Lots of seafood tapas and great variety of options. You just have to spend a lot to get full. ![]() Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 4, 2011 Was very impressed with this place, except for slow service (they weren't very busy, jsut under staffed). The food was very fresh and tasty. We had a ice cream and cake desert and a chicken caesar crepe. All was very good. ![]() Omarama, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 Not much more than a truck stop diner, Oasis is there for refueling the body on a long drive. The pizza here was pretty poor, but some of the desserts and home-cooked items looked better. Would only recommend for a quick lunch bite when driving through the town. ![]() New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 They had the biggest ribs I've ever seen here and they were good. Can't even remember if they were wild boar or something else. The beer was good too, but the food menu stood out for being surprisingly varied and reasonable. ![]() New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 Nice restaurant here in Twizel, perhaps the most impressive one in town. Their salmon fillet was superb and they offer a good range of pizzas and drinks. Slightly more expensive then other offerings nearby, but worth the effort. Also attracts a slightly higher-end clientele. Busy for dinner, resrvations may help during peak times. ![]() Te Anau, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 We stayed at the Edgewater Motel in Te Anau and were pleasantly surprised with the service in this small town. Our rooms were spacious and clean with plenty of room for 6 of us to hang out and enjoy some beers. Nothing fancy, but all we needed. ![]() Te Anau, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 Very scenic lake setting here. Great place to slow things down for a day or two before or after your Milford / Doubtful Sound journeys. ![]() Te Anau, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 The Glow Worm tour from Te Anau was fun. The ferry ride to get out there is quite the adventure when it is windy and a bit rough! But the actual cave facilities are nice and guides are informative. I did think there would be more glow worms though! ![]() Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 This was the place in NZ where I saw Kiwi birds. They put on a feeding at certain times of the day. I was surprised how big the kiwi birds were. They do the feeding in a dark room as the birds are nocturnal, so you can't take photos but it was still interesting. Outside the kiwi bird enclosures you are free to see kea and tuatara and other wildlife out in the open. Worth a couple of hours for a relaxed afternoon activity in Queenstown. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Mar 6, 2011 This place was BUSY when I went. It was actually full up as it is not that large, so I wandered around town for an extra 15 minutes before snagging a table. A bit overwhelming in terms of options when you first stand in line to place your order. A big wall of menu items looms down at you from behind the counter. Some items are reportedly hit and miss, so I went with their specialty - blueberry pancakes,. They were absolutely fantastic. Huge, fluffy and filling enough that you don't need to the rest of the day. Go here, but choose your food wisely. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2011 Kind of an odd mix of a place. By day it does serve up good coffee and lunch food and the Moroccan styled interior is quite relaxing. haven't been at night, when it turns into a club/lounge and caters to a different crowd. Nice place, but nothing jaw-dropping. ![]() Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 17, 2011 The Rotorua location of Burger Fuel is small, with about 10 tables or so. Huge menu is intimidating at first, with so many options. Overall very tasty burger and average fries. As far as NZ burgers go...not as good as Fergburger, but better than Velvet Burger. ![]() Hastings, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 17, 2011 Top experience. Cape kidnappers is well worth a visit. The gannet colony is very impressive - you get within reaching distance of the birds. The clifftop has great views too. Best way to get here is by the beach at low tide. Rent a motorbike or 4WD or take the Tractor ride with Gannet Beach Adventures. ![]() Mount Maunganui, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 17, 2011 Nice place, but not as great as some made it out to be. IT is your average watering hole, with a mixed crowd of young and 30+ looking for a fun night on the town. gets busy and can be fun, but nothing spectacular. ![]() Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 10, 2011 Good spot, average beers, but quite lively on a Saturday night. This is the street to head to on weekends, as crowds gather to pile in to the numerous bars and clubs taht are side by side. Fun times, fairly young crowd at times. ![]() New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 10, 2011 nice place, perhaps the fanciest in town. Fox Glacier is pretty sparse and small, so this place stands out as a great option of you want a nicer meal. Great garlic bread, some fantastic rarer beers and very friendly staff. It was a bit pricier here, but everyone I ate with enjoyed their meal immensely. ![]() New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 8, 2011 Perhaps the healthiest, freshest food offerings in Fox Glacier. Their breakfasts are great, and pizzas come with unique toppings. can be a bit slow, but the place is small, so relax and go with it. Friendly place, good for vegetarians too. More of a bar vibe at night. ![]() New Zealand, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 8, 2011 Great scenery at Fox Glacier. We did a 1/2 day hike where you ascend the mountain slopes and cut across the glacier part way up. Walking on the glacier was fantastic. You can't really appreciate how big it is until you're in the middle of it! ![]() New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 8, 2011 Filling meals in Fox Glacier. Not too many places to eat here, but this is one of the better ones. Also one of only a couple places that can be lively at night, so stay for a few drinks as the night goes on. ![]() New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 8, 2011 Affordable, quick lunch spot. The burgers, salads and sandwiches hit the spot, but the ice cream is the real reason to go here. ![]() Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 Not a bad place for some beers with friends, but a bit over hyped in terms of what they offer. Sure...come here if you want to play pool, and perhaps the live gigs are worth it sometimes, but general food and drinks are average. Cozy lounge-y type environment though. ![]() Greymouth, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 One of few places in NZ that I ate at more than once. Now, that was not because of quality, but because of convenience. It is the closest thing to the train station when you get off the Trans Alpine railway journey. Food and beer are pretty generic, but they did have some crazy huge potato wedge things that looked good, and the meal sizes were huge, so good value for money if you like quantity over quality. ![]() Punakaiki, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 Very nice cabins / cottages on the beach with lots of space and very friendly, attentive owners. Clean, well appointed rooms and each cottage comes with a patio / outdoor area. Laundry on site and close to the tavern. Steps away from the beach. ![]() Punakaiki, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 Part restaurant, part bar...all tavern. About as simple as it gets and about as lively as it gets in Punakaiki. The great thing is pretty much all places you can stay at are within walking distance of here. Food is quite good, but simple - burgers are a safe choice. ![]() Punakaiki, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 The beach area along here is flat and vast. You can go for a nice run in the sand for quite a distance. The fun part of the area is that jade rocks can sometimes wash up on shore, making a walk on the beach a bit more interesting. We did indeed find one nice small jade rock, and a few low quality ones. ![]() Punakaiki, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 As far as rocks and blowholes go - this place is definitely above average. The trail along the coast is very easy and has some fun bridges and lookout points where you can see the surging tides and waves crashing into the rocks. Timing your photos to catch a big blowhole explosion can be fun too. Some interesting flora in the area as well, and the pancake layered rocks are truly weird. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 7, 2011 Did a full day tour that combined the Monarch cruise and the Elm wildlife tour. It was more than 8 hours totat - long day, but worth it. The cruise is fun and different. We saw flying Albatross and swimming and resting Seals. Pretty relaxing cruise if the weather is good. Don't expect to get too close to the wildlife though. ![]() Mount Maunganui, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 6, 2011 Nice location in Mt. Maunganui. The places is pretty low key by day but can get busy at night with more of a bar feel. Nice selection of drinks, plenty of Monteith's on tap. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 6, 2011 There are plenty of places to eat at the Airport in Toronto, but this place provides the most reasonable selection and prices IMO when it comes to food. Beer and drinks are crazy expensive though. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Feb 6, 2011 Very good stuff. I only enjoyed their hot chocolates and did not grab any of the chocolate-y treats, but they all looked great. Tons of variety in flavours, nice place. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Feb 6, 2011 Friendly vibe at this place and nice location too. Had the baked salmon, which was perfect. Great service too - grabbed a seat at the kitchen bar to watch the chefs do their work, lots of fun. ![]() Manukau City, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Feb 6, 2011 Stayed here out of convenience. It is within walking distance from the Campervan dropoff for many popular brands like Britz, Explore More, etc. So for a one night stay before flying out it was quite perfect. It is not far from the airport. Don't stay here if you plan to spend any time downtown though. ![]() Auckland, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 23, 2011 I am not a hostel person usually, but sometimes affordability is key and Base hits the spot in Auckland. perfect location and a hostel with plenty of shared or private rooms. Staff were helpful for activities and transportation questions as well. If you want to stay downtown at a good price, this is worth it. ![]() Tanna, Vanuatu ![]() Added Jan 21, 2011 Agree with what everyone else has said. This is an amazing place. No fences, no barriers, you walk right along the edge of the volcano crater. Lava shoots up, throwing rocks all around, and once it's dark...the colours and light show is amazing. The sound waves on larger explosions help remind you how dangerous it really is...could have stayed there all night if our local guide hadn't gotten "cold" (I was in shorts and a t-shirt). ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 19, 2011 Huge menu with everything from healthy salads to local venison and other specialties. The chicken and avocado sandwich is great, and the location of this bar is perfect. ![]() Auckland, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 19, 2011 Fantastic steak. Tony's doesn't mess around, they just cook up good slabs of steak and keep things simple. The shrimp cocktail is quite good as well. Usually quite busy, but service is efficient. Go here for a simple, no fuss, steak dinner in Auckland. ![]() Auckland, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 18, 2011 Wide selection of Belgian beers, including some relatively hard to find ones, although my top choice was unavailable. The food is good too, and the place gets lively during cricket or rugby games. Great location and interesting mix of locals and tourists. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 18, 2011 Quick service here, they like to herd you in and get you out..keep the customers coming and going. Really, that isn't such an annoyance and can be expected. The food quality is very good, not amazing. The mango lassis are great though. If you need an Indian food fix like I did, go here. There are many better places to eat in Dunedin though. ![]() Auckland, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 17, 2011 Nice place that is sometimes very quiet and sometimes very crowded. Downtown, great location...you can even stay in the hotel this brewpub is located in - how convenient is that? The beers themselves are average for NZ, but it is a unique experience. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 17, 2011 Nice little bar. It's not huge and only has a few outdoor tables, but the beers on tap are great. One of the best spots in Dunedin for something different than Monteith's. Tasty little tapas meals and decent breakfast/brunch meals too. ![]() Auckland, North Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 Have to give this place top marks for the best bottle selection of beer in New Zealand. Enjoyed some Epic Armageddon, Mussel Inn Captain Cooker Manuka and Smokin' Bishop from Invercargill here (among others). A must visit for anyone interested in beer from NZ. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 A bit of a weird vibe and the place wasn't too busy but the staff were friendly and food tasted great. Huge variety of choices here. Went for the signature Velvet Burger - a venison burger with pineapple and some other interesting stuff on it. Annoying that you have to pay extra for tomato sauce. ![]() Te Anau, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 Serving up comfort food and more. Nice location ith friendly staff who know the menu. They probably have the best priced venison in town, and it is good. Our hotle had coupons for a free beer or wine if we ate here...check with yours. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 It has some nice gardens out front too for pretty photographs. Inside you can book scenic tours or visit a sports museum. Nice architecture, close to the chocolate factory too. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 Indeed the Octagon is where the centre of town lives in Dunedin. Walking around the closest street you have a wide selection of bars, restaurants and cafes. The main streets for shopping, eating and exploring all come here. Take one and you hit the trains station, another and you hit the university area. Good spot for people watching. ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 Perhaps my favourite hostel I've stayed in. Lacks that generic, dorm feel of many hostels as it's an old house transformed into a fun, friendly hostel. With patio outside and huge kitchen, as well as plenty of bathrooms and variety of rooms, it's a top spot to stay on a budget in Dunedin. Great location too (as long as you don't mind a few hills). ![]() Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Jan 15, 2011 Very impressive birds and great views from atop the cliff where the viewing platform is. You have to stay in a special enclosure to not disturb the birds, so photos are a bit tough, but if you linger outside on the trail up to the enclosure long enough you may get some clear pictures as the Albatross fly by overhead. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 1, 2011 A seafood and chophouse, Joe Fortes is one of those places that serves solid cuisine and fits well for a special occasion as it is not a casual dining or eating place. Expect an upscale, bordering on fine dining experience, although brunch time makes it comfy for all. The oyster bar is central and a great place to watch the action. The oysters are what is most popular here, but the entire menu is great. Worth a stop if you want a nice meal. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 1, 2011 Easily the best selection of local beers in Vancouver. The Alibi Room prides itself in offering a wide selection of options from Vancouver and BC breweries, as well as some great beers from further afield. This place is often packed. People dining on ground floor or others curled up at a table downstairs. Communal drinking is encouraged at some big tables and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Great place if you enjoy beer. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 1, 2011 This was the first place I visited for some local beers in Vancouver. I was impressed with the beers they made, in particular the stout that was on tap. They have a number of seasonals so beers change often. Food looked really good to, huge portions, but I did not try any food here. Great location close to many other popular night spots. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 1, 2011 Very well located hotel. It is right atop the waterfront stop for people taking the Canada line from the airport...cant beat that! Hotel is great, a classic Fairmont look and fell. Service is perfect. If you want a more modern hotel try the nearby Pacific Rim from Fairmont, but for the price this is a good value. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 1, 2011 Perhaps the best way to appreciate the vastness and beauty of Stanley Park. The Sea Wall goes around the park and beyond, offering great views of the ocean and easy paths for walking, running, cycling.... If you plan to do it all, bring a lunch or picnic, as it will easily take you close to 4 hours if you're stopping to enjoy the views or take photos. ![]() Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Jan 1, 2011 What a great place. If only every city had a place like Stanley Park! Great variety of paths and trails, and the park is of such size that you can totally remove yourself from the nearby city. If you like nature, the outdoors and hiking then this is a must visit. ![]() Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Dec 24, 2010 Quite a nice little spot only 1 block up from the beach in Sumner. Food prices and quality were decent, although mine was overcooked. Great smoothies though! ![]() Mount Cook Village, South Island, New Zealand ![]() Added Dec 9, 2010 Grewat location. Not much to choose from in Mount Cook area, but this place fits the void. Food offerings are standard, but good portions. They use organic / free range items on the menu wherever possible. Worth a stop after visiting Mt. Cook. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 10, 2010 Nothing over the top here, just a basic, friendly Japanese restaurant. Was quiet when we went during off-peak hours, but service was very friendly. If you want stylish or fancy, don't go here. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2010 Very nice place for lunch. A bit pricey, but what else would you expect from an O&B locale? The beef brisket is quite good, as is pretty much anything else on the menu. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2010 Always been tempted to go here, and will have to return to review again. Great selection of oysters, always a wide variety to choose from. Nice bar area and decor, a very welcoming place for a meal. We just had some soup and chowder when I was there, unfortunately they had some kitchen issues and later that day the chowder wasn't being friendly with my stomach. Nonetheless would go back for a real meal as I'm sure that was an isolated event. They also have a nice selection of beers and wine. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2010 They have two locations in Toronto and their service is always tops. Great variety of meats, some obscure ones too. Wide selection of organics and always willing to provide cooking advice too. Great spot to shop if you're planning to cook a nice meal at home. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 26, 2010 This is a good bar that caters to both the typical university / get drunk and party crowd, as well as those who appreciate finer foods and drinks. It's an odd mix but seems to work. An above average pub with average beer. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 23, 2010 While this review is for there soon to be closed Kensington location, the new location is largely the same, with some menu item twists. We had to bison ribeye and the quack n track, which is duck and horse. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Wine prices were not absurd, and the fresh vegetables and attentive service was much appreciated. Overall very impressed, and horse is now one of my favourite edible animals! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 4, 2010 The Charlotte Room is a great little spot to sit down and enjoy a bunch of drinks with friends. It is conveniently located downtown, but nicely located off the busy streets. Nice patio for summer, great pool tables and good food. Not cheap, but always good. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 3, 2010 Best soup I've had here so far is the Creole Shrimp Bisque. Had enough of a kick, and a thick enough texture to be a soothing, tasty meal, and the shrimp chunks were quite generous. On the other hand the Moroccan vegetable Madness Medley couldn't be finished between two of us, it lacked any spirit or real taste and was just a watery mess of veggies. The bonus of this place is a frequent buyer coupon (buy 10 get 1 free) and you get $0.25 off if you bring back their paper bag for return purchases. Add in off-hour 2 for 1 type deals and plenty of daily specials and you can eat here quite cheap. Just choose your soup wisely as it can be hit and miss. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 3, 2010 The season of soup is nearly here in Toronto (at least to me, I can't eat soup in the hot summer months). This place, as far as I'm concerned, offers the best tasting, rich, flavourful, filling soups in Toronto. The Ravi Stew is always great, but the lentil soup is my favourite. Never had anything bad here. A bit on the pricey side considering it is soup, but well worth it for an occasional treat. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Sep 19, 2010 For a dingy, crap-tastic looking place the Done Right actually has decent beer and liquor. It's not a place to brag about but if you and a few buddies need to down some drinks, or you need to drink alone, this is a spot that might fit the bill. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Sep 19, 2010 Decent pub that opened up downtown recently. The Irish nachos are fun and tasty, the beer selection is slightly above average. Surprisingly, they have a good wine sampling deal some days. Huge place, plenty of space. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Sep 4, 2010 I don't drink coffee, so I don't visit coffee shops often. But this isn't like a Starbucks or other generic coffee shop. Nice, inviting and friendly atmosphere dedicated to the art of coffee, yet it isn't crowded or pretentious. Fun place to go for a coffee - or tea - or juice or something else. They have other locations as well. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Sep 4, 2010 I want this place to succeed as they have a nice upscale twist on the burger joint. With the volume of burger places in TO though, I think they're doomed to fail. It didn't help that our first visit there they burnt one burger and cooked my Bison to well done when I asked for medium well. I'll give it a second shot, but it's been around many months now and should have these issues sorted out by now. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 22, 2010 decent beer. decent vibe, decent food, decent location. Everything here is decent. Nothing is spectacular. Want mediocrity? Go here...hungover? This will do. Late night beers? This works. That's about it. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 22, 2010 Quite enjoyed the Red Curry dish, but this place does not offer anything exceptional. Good food, yes. But nothing out of the ordinary. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 18, 2010 A no-nonsense type of operation. This is where you go when you want a veal sandwich done right. Their sandwiches are huge and their topping options are just what you need. Probably the best veal I've had anywhere in Toronto. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 18, 2010 Nice place for lunch if you need a quick take out item. Surprisingly quick. They were "out" of the item I wanted (spicy chicken) but it only took them a few minutes to cook more up fresh. This place is small and simple. They get bonus points for not caring about change, my meal was a fair bit over $5 but they only charged $5. Good service and friendly people. ![]() Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 16, 2010 This place does the traditional bakery cafe thing well, with fantastic fresh breads and rich, flavourful soups and meals. Everything here looks great and tastes even better. Highly recommend it. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 14, 2010 Located in Yorkville, an upscale part of Toronto this is a nice spot if you want a more relaxed kind of night out. Still nice, but the patio area generally has a low key and friendly vibe to it. Food is good as well. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 13, 2010 The King West location has been around for a long time and this is relatively new. We ordered pasta dishes here. The proportions were decent, but not huge. The atmosphere was a bit smug, with a few large groups there. It was an odd combination - nice Italian food but clients wanting to watch the UFC match. Who they hell goes to an Italian restaurant for a fighting match? No thanks. The service will hopefully improve as our waiter failed to clear a used glass from the people before us off the table and failed to provide a refill on the complimentary (and bland) bread. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 13, 2010 This is a "safe" call if you have to meet someone downtown who isn't familiar with Toronto. It is not anywhere near the best pub but it is far from the worst. Food is above average with good appetizer and main course options, however it is slightly pricey because if it's location. Beer selection is pretty generic and uninspired. ![]() Perth, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 23, 2010 Wish we could give 1/2 stars. This is a 3.5 star park. Nice but not great. Camp sites are too crowded and small and lack privacy...you can hear or see other campsites too easily. The staff here were friendly and there are ample services such as firewood, boat rentals, etc. Hiking trails were decent and uncrowded which was nice. Saw TONS of fire flies here, which was a first for Ontario, very cool. ![]() Goreme, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 19, 2010 Nice, clean and busy pension that is a short walk form downtown Goreme. Very friendly owners and decent food make it a convenient place to stay. Great value if all you want is a simple place to stay while enjoying Cappadocia. ![]() Goreme, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 19, 2010 The Open Air Museum is fantastic. Just a bit of a walk up the street from the town of Goreme, it is a sprawling complex of houses, buildings and curiously shaped rocks. Imagining what life was like to live here is half of the fun, the other half is taking tons of photos! ![]() Hamilton, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 18, 2010 A solid University in one of the best parts of the city of Hamilton. With a Hospital and Nuclear reactor on campus it provides a wide variety of educational programs not as easily offered by some smaller universities. ![]() Hamilton, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 18, 2010 Hess Village is a bit of an institution for drinking and hanging out at night. There are other shops here with some great character too but classic bars like the Lazy Flamingo, Gown and Gavel or Funky Monkey seem to never die. Pubs, clubs, lounges and street parties in summer are the highlight here. Extremely popular with the University and College crowd. ![]() Dundas, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 18, 2010 A nice place for a family outing, somewhere to bring the kids for a swim or just an outdoor day of fun. There are limited hiking trails here but lots of open space top play frisbee, baseball, soccer, etc. The beach is ok, nothing amazing, but for it's location it is very convenient. ![]() Bursa, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 13, 2010 One of the best meals in all of Turkey. Iskender is simple and delicious. You get slices of meat on pide bread with tomato sauce and yogurt and some veggies on the side, then it is covered in a heated butter mix. Amazing. ![]() Kale, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 5, 2010 We drove by here on our way from Ucagiz. Wish we would have stopped to spend 1/2 a day at least, looked intruguing and interesting! ![]() Fethiye, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 5, 2010 A magnificent beach. Very busy, very popular. Tons of restaurants and shops around, as this is tourist central. But the beach and water here is amazing. You really must try the paragliding though. For seeing it from a birds eye view it is even more impressive. The ride to the top of the mountain is almost more fun (and scary) than the paragliding itself. ![]() Kayakoy, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 5, 2010 The Ghost Town is a bit of an understandably creepy place. A few random houses on the lower parts of the hills are inhabited again. You'll see some goats, camels, horses and chickens and roosters around. But mostly abandoned rock buildings scattered across the hillside. The scale of the abandoned part of the city, once called Levissi is huge. Worth a 1/2 day exploring at least, for the hiking to some parts of the village can be rough. A full day if you're into history and culture. You can do a day hike from Kayakoy across the mountains to Oludeniz if you're up for a challenge. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 The longest street in the world! ( supposedly, how do they know?) Yonge Street stretches from lake Ontario and goes north, through Toronto and many other cities like Richmond Hill and Newmarket. The downtown stretch of Yonge Street is a bit trashy / touristy with sketchy shops and random restaurants thrown together. If you have a few hours though, it is worth wandering along from Eglinton Ave down south to Front Street. (Tip: take subway north and walk south so you're not walking uphill the entire way) ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 Nice neighbourhood about 45 minutes walk from downtown Toronto, or an easy streetcar ride away. very residential with some nice shops and places to eat along Queen Street. Down by the lake, Sunnyside Park is great. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 Decent spot for a few beers. If you get a nice table on the outdoor patio then it can be fun watching people around you as it's a busy little street that is lined with multiple bars and pubs. Above average beer selection and decent food, but nothing to rave about. If you're in the area check it out. ![]() Pamukkale, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 To me, the ancient city of Hierapolis is more impressive than the Pamukkale baths (travertines) that are nearby. While the Antique Pool and calcium cliffs draw the crowds, the sprawling Hierapolis complex with it's huge Theatre and ruins the spread over a large area are great to explore. Worth a full day to soak up the history. For photographers, go in later afternoon and stay until dusk. ![]() Pamukkale, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 Very nice hotel. Family run and well maintained. Nice pool area if it is hot and great homemade food prepared here! It is a bit tricky to find, but worth seeking out. ![]() Denizli, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 A busy place, but once you get out towards the Hieropolis and outer reaches of Pamukkale the crowds go away. Well worth spending a full day - with 1/2 your time in the Antique Pool where restaurants and lounge chairs await. Take time to visit the nice Archaeological Museum too, which houses interesting artifacts in a handful of rooms. The highlight for me was wandering around the ancient city ruins though - the Hieropolis, just before sunset - amazing! ![]() Selcuk, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 Arguably Turkey's most impressive tourist site. This is an amazingly preserved city where you can wander down ancient cobbled streets, take a seat in the outdoor Theatre, gaze up at the impressive Library or even see what old Roman baths and brothels were like! While it is all great to look at, it comes alive with a knowledgeable guide. This is one place that deserves some local expertise to get the most out of it. Can be done in 1/2 a day, but to explore it all give yourself 1-2 days. ![]() Selcuk, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 I really enjoyed sitting out on the steps and taking in the view of the Mosque here. Looking up at the one remaining minaret, and the high rock and marble walls. Nice area to grab a spot in some shade and relax for a moment. Wasn't overly impressed with the content or architecture of the Mosque itself though. ![]() Selcuk, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 A very impressive and large site in Selcuk. There are many well posted signs and you can get a pamphlet that lets you enjoy the history on your own (no need for guide). You can breeze through it in just over an hour, but allow a 1/2 day at least if you want to take photos. The baptism pool area is interesting and the site has a nice panoramic view looking down on Selcuk as it is near the top of a hill. ![]() Selcuk, Aegean Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jul 1, 2010 A great location and delicious food highlight this pleasant hotel. Only 5 min walk from the Isa Bey Mosque and less than 10 min walk from St John's Basilica. Enjoy some Turkish food and Nargile here! ![]() Bursa, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jun 28, 2010 One of the nicer hotels I stayed at in Turkey, on a budget. This place is well located and easy to get to. Just a hop away from the bus stops and busy streets of Bursa...shopping, eating, and tourists spots are all within a 15 minute walk. Nice bar area at the hotel as well. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Jun 28, 2010 The AND Hotel is superbly located as the write up suggests. Very nice hotel, great spot for some drinks at night on the roof. Relatively cheap and friendly staff too. For a couple of medium budget hotel nights in town, it is worth it. ![]() Konya, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Jun 28, 2010 The Mevlana Hotel is nothing to write home about, but it is perfectly located. A bit hard to find, thankfully there are signs on the main street pointing you in the right direction. Rooms are clean and simple, and the breakfast buffet provides enough nourishment to get you to dinner if you're on a budget. Their website is in Turkish only. ![]() Konya, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Jun 28, 2010 I was museum'd out by the time I got here, but it does house interesting cultural artifacts. The surrounding outdoor area was of more interest to me, with old style houses nearby and the big hill across the road. ![]() Konya, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Jun 28, 2010 I quite enjoyed this museum for two reasons. First it is small. I hate museums for their never ending hallways of emptiness, but this one keeps it short and simple. The Ceiling inside of the building is a stunning mosaic of tiles. The museum contents themselves are interesting as well. Get there early in the am when it first opens. ![]() Sandusky, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Jun 16, 2010 Sandusky is adventure central with amusement and water parks everywhere. Kalahari is a bit pricey for a waterpark and the wait for some slides was long, however it is huge and has a great variety of attractions to try. Worth a visit for sure, but if you're on a budget choose a different, more affordable park. ![]() Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 An all suites hotel that claims to be the best in Akron, let alone Cuyahoga Falls. We came here to explore the nearby Park and the hotel was great. Our room was clean and spacious and included 2 TVs, not that we used them much. Nice location to historic shops and right on the River near some nice restaurants. The pool and fitness area were decent here too. Didn't see anything else nearby that looked half as good. ![]() Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 Impeccable service is why this gets a five star rating. We arrived for dinner and closed the place down but were never rushed. Great steaks and nice wine selection. very friendly staff (all of them) and nice setting. Highly recommend it. Save room for dessert! ![]() Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 One of the best views in Cuyahoga Falls by far. Great location in the Sheraton hotel. We had lunch here including drinks. Nice casual atmosphere at lunch, and we sat overlooking the river. unfortunately the service was very slow, until a new server arrived who was much better. The food took quite some time and arrived with the wrong side dish for one of us. Overall nice, but needs some polishing touches to be a "top" spot in the city. ![]() Fairlawn, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Jun 14, 2010 Great bar with decent food and an amazing selection of beers. There are many of these in Ohio and if you're a fan of beer, seek one out, you won't be disappointed! ![]() Mississauga, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 21, 2010 Wow. This place is the greasiest diner I have seen. The dirty, broken and falling apart tables and chairs add to the ambiance here. Massive breakfast meals though if you really need to gorge yourself after a late night. Only thing that surprised me was that the cook didn't have a cigarette dangling out of his mouth while at the grill. Food tastes ok...but clogs the arteries and the places just has a creepy vibe. ![]() Pokin Y. commented... Added May 21, 2010 I immediately visualized piles of grease and a hunched over dude with cigarette ashes floating into the food - even if you didn't actually see that. Sounds like it was quite the scene. :) ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 21, 2010 Ciro's is a hidden gem. Granted, if you're a tourist just visiting Toronto you have little reason to venture to this part of town...but it is on the Bloor Subway line, and if you're a beer lover then it is a must visit. Prices are sometimes 2-3$ cheaper than Bier Markt or Beer Bistro. Very friendly staff too, looks like nothing outside, but is cozy inside. ![]() Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 21, 2010 Orwell's was once a regular spot of mine, not because of great quality, but convenience. I like their food, it's simple and tasty..nothing trendy. Could be a lot better if they had a nice patio space, as inside is a bit cramped and dated. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 7, 2010 They have multiple locations in the city and they're all good. The boneless chicken roti is absolutely amazing, get it with hot sauce and extra potatoes and you'll be in heaven. Simple, quick, tasty and affordable! ![]() Malaysia ![]() Added Apr 30, 2010 A great place to relax after hiking the Headhunters Trail, or if you just want to chill out at Mulu Park after flying in from Miri or Kuching. Great food, nice pool, perfect scenery and great rooms. The fact that hiking trails, canopy walks, bat caves and so much more are nearby makes it the perfect remote resort to enjoy nature. ![]() Sandakan, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Apr 30, 2010 Not knowing anything about the Death Marches prior to arriving in Sandakan I was hugely impressed with the site and information at this museum. Especially after trekking through the Borneo jungle you can only imagine how harsh the conditions must have been for prisoners who once were held here and died. ![]() Burlington, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 30, 2010 Everything seemed slightly overpriced here, if they knocked a couple of dollars off each item it would be great, but judging by how busy it always seems, they don't have to. Thursdays are cheap Martini night. Menu is heavy on deep-fried items, not the best variety or most healthy options. Overall good, not great. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 27, 2010 Very good food selection here, although it is a "chain" in terms of having two other locations, they do a great job on service and food quality here. Overall price is probably about 2.5 stars, slightly high, but still worth it. The red bean ice cream is the perfect way to end a meal here! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 10, 2010 Not a big fan of dancing really, but under the right circumstances - small crowds, laid back vibe without the "there to be seen" fashionista crowd it can be fun. This place gits that bill with some fun Latin vibes. ![]() Mississauga, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 21, 2010 I'm a fan of beer so this place draws me in with their huge offering. The food is somewhat over priced though, and the last time we had coconut shrimp they were fried beyond belief. I think that was a one time thing, so give it a go...it is lively and fun on weekends! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 21, 2010 I've had the meals and the takeout shawarma sandwiches here and they are good! Tasty hot sauce and good variety of toppings. Everything here always looks good if you need a fix for some Arabic or Persian foods...yum! ![]() Cambridge, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 18, 2010 This is a fun spot, kind of in the middle of nowhere. I have been twice and enjoyed it both times. There are tons of butterflies inside the temperature controlled tropical area. Bring a camera because you will get some great photos. It is a fun place for both adults and kids. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 15, 2010 This is perhaps the best little lunch spot on this stretch of King St. A bit cheaper than some other options like Zoe's, but the toasted sandwiches are awesome. Many people love their smoothies too. Small spot, but worth checking out! Try the peanut butter and chocolate brownies! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 12, 2010 I recently discovered this place and thought their wraps were great. The Tango chicken is very tasty and had generous portions of chicken in it. Nice spot for lunch, but not the cheapest option around. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 9, 2010 Unfortunately one of the poorest dining experiences I've had recently. One of our steaks was a terrible mess of toughness (a filet no less) and served cold. The entire plate of veggies, potatoes was cold, and the server simply brought new potatoes leaving all the cold, inedible items on the plate. Worst part? The second potatoes they brought were ice cold too. Ultimately had one meal returned and they didn't think to ask us if we wanted to order anything else. If they get it right - it is good, if not...watch out. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2010 Pretty much the diviest type place in the area. Aside from cheaper beers there is no reason to go here, it's dirty, smelly and crowded. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2010 **NOW CLOSED!** Have been here for cheap chicken wings and they were very good, quite large too. It never seems to be busy here and I'm surprised it has lasted this long - but the service has been good and the food tasty, so check it out! ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2010 The Kings Arms is a fun spot as it is a pub with a focus on sports and entertainment. Always lively with a good crowd, this tends to be a drinking place more than an eating place. A bit boring in terms of beer options. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2010 The food here is always good and the beer selection is more well rounded than many pubs with lots of imports, including on draught. Downside of this pub is that it is on a quiet street downtown and does not have any outdoor patio space. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 13, 2010 One of the most affordable restaurants in downtown Oakville. Nothing super fancy here, just classic good Italian food. Lots of salads, pastas and pizzas. The veal parm is very good. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 13, 2010 Nice restaurant serving plenty of interesting options including lots of veggie and gluten free meals. The crab ravioli and wild boar dishes are great! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 13, 2010 The atmosphere here can get loud, but it stays pretty low key most nights. Often busy, the food seems a bit muted, I've never been overly impressed by the fish and chips here but other menu items get good grades from friends. Nice area with plenty of other bars and pubs to hit if this isn't your vibe. Good selection of beer. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 13, 2010 The Coach and Four has been around a long time and it does show - it's a bit tired and run down inside, but if you get past that, the bartenders, servers and patrons are very friendly. Good spot if you're just wanting to settle in for a night of drinking and chatting. ![]() Kowloon, Hong Kong (SAR) ![]() Added Feb 13, 2010 The location of this hotel is fantastic, overlooking Victoria Harbour. Lots of restaurants here and they are all great. Rooms are spacious and service is great. Fantastic option if you want to stay in Kowloon. ![]() Kuching, Sarawak Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Feb 9, 2010 This was a pleasant surprise of a place. After weeks of simple meals we ended up eating here upon arrival in Kuching. The typical rice, curry, prawn dishes are to be had, as well as some western items like caeser salad and garlic bread, but the ostrich, mussels and deer were what won us over. Not a cheap meal, so save up for it and enjoy! ![]() Mississauga, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 7, 2010 Nice pub, although a bit of a strange layout inside. Can be a cozy spot or a rowdy night depending when you go. The food is great, although kind of limiting after you've been a few times. Always fresh and tasty Kilkenny on tap. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 7, 2010 This is a very enjoyable restaurant in the heart of Koreatown on Bloor. There are countless dining options around here and this is not one of the cheaper ones, but the Bulgogi is great and service fast and friendly. Stick with the Korean options and you won't be disappointed. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 5, 2010 Nice hotel overall. MUch better to stay at in the sumer when you can enjoy the views of nearby Toronto Islands and take advantage of the outdoor pool. Since there is no indoor pol its not the best in winter. Nice hotel...but only if you get a cheap room rate IMO. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 5, 2010 Fort York is a nice spot to wander around and get a bit of history for what Toronto used to be. This is where the Toronto Festival of Beer used to be held. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 5, 2010 A classic watering hole with old school wooden tables and chairs. Nothing fancy here, you get some TV screens, a small patio in the summer and plenty of pub grub and beers. Great downtown location - popular spot for recreation sports teams to get together for drinks. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 5, 2010 Bloor West Village is a friendly strip of shops that offers everything from countless coffee shops to more boutique type shopping opportunities. There are some good restaurants here, best to visit and roam around the street in summer time. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 22, 2010 This place has a more inviting and comfortable feel to it than some other night spots in KK. Not overly busy during the week, however on weekends it can get busy. They have fun theme nights here too, which can make for fun nights. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 22, 2010 An alright place, on par with Rumba at the Ler Meridien. If you happen across a special night perhaps it is more exciting, but you get kind of tired seeing cookie-cutter Filipino bands singing karaoke style most nights. Can be a fun crowd if it gets busy, worth a couple drinks before moving on elsewhere IMO. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 21, 2010 Nice hotel in a convenient location. Just walk down Jalan Sapuluh to get to the waterfront. Not exactly close to highlights but everything in KK is within a 10-15 walk anyways. Breakfast buffet here was average, but rooms were more than adequate for a mid-range hotel. If you want simple, clean rooms without frills this is a good choice. KFC next door for people who need a western fix or late night post-drinking snack. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 21, 2010 Le Meridien in KK is one of the bet located hotels hands-down. It is literally right across the road fro mthe night market and within 2 minutes walk to the Waterfront complex, Filipino market and virtually anything else in the downtown core. The waterfront rooms are great and the pool is perfectly located. Great spot to splurge for a few nights. Rooms are big, clean and well equipped. Free internet (if you have a laptop) is great too. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 21, 2010 Had the chicken pizza here, which was very tasty and perfectly cooked. Other people I was with had the chicken lasagna, beef lasagna, seafood pizza and a bunch of other items. This was the favourite meal in Borneo for some friends! As with many spots on the waterfront it's not super cheap, but this place offers good value for money. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 21, 2010 Friendly spot, usually some expats or tourists hanging around. If you need a break from Tiger beer this is one of the spots to try. Pints of Kilkenny are served, but at $28MYR you will need a fat wallet to spend much time here. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 21, 2010 Really 3.5 stars. This is a fun spot to enjoy music, although the lip synching of the Filipino band is pretty atrocious. Most people go there to enjoy the skimpy clothed band anyways, so the lack of singing talent is a moot point. Decent prices, big place and lots of fun to go there in a group. Popular for tourists and locals. ![]() Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Region, Malaysia ![]() Added Jan 21, 2010 Centrepoint is one of the shopping malls in Kota Kinabalu. I stopped in for some cheap sandals and clothes here....its full of discounted / knock off type stores, but some legit ones as well. If your luggage gets delayed like mine did...stop by here instead of one of the fancier, more expensive malls. Some craft stores and tons of cell phone stores here too, as well as some fast food joints. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Dec 6, 2009 The pasta here always looks absolutely amazing, but I am partial to the huge, tasty veal parmigiana. Plenty of pizza, pasta and vegetarian options too. Always busy at lunch...fun group of workers behind the counter too. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Dec 6, 2009 This is a welcoming place taht is worth visiting if with a small group of friends. Expect high prices though, and service seems a bit hit and miss, but overall good. The atomosphere was fun, and the decor is a bit kitschy but amusing. Nice selection of martinis. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 18, 2009 I keep trying this place but am always disappointed. Perhaps I need to try to goat or some other dishes. I keep going for the curry chicken but always find it dry. Will give it one more shot... ![]() Konya, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Oct 17, 2009 There is a very nice photogenic garden of flowers outside the Monastery in a courtyard away from the crowds. Nice place to relax and take photos. ![]() Konya, Central Anatolia, Turkey ![]() Added Oct 17, 2009 Interesting Museum, that can get very crowded. I felt like we were being shuffled along instead of being able to enjoy the museum at our own pace because of how many people were there. Still quite cool. Gives a nice background on the religion and culture. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2009 Great sandwiches with breads like organic granary and country boule and whole grain panini. Haven't had the soups but they look great. A great variety of cheeses and meets and veggies for toppings. Bit pricey, but very filling. ![]() Beirut, Beirut Region, Lebanon ![]() Added Oct 4, 2009 Perhaps the most popular spot to watch the sunset along the Corniche. There are numerous bars and restaurants on the waterfront overlooking the rocks. The rocks themselves are interesting to photograph, but not spectacular in any way. It's the overall location that makes it worth checking it. ![]() Beirut, Beirut Region, Lebanon ![]() Added Oct 4, 2009 A bustling part of Beirut. Nice to wander around during the day, but even more fun in the evening around sunset. Go for a nargile at one of the seaside hotspots near Pigeon Rocks or at one of the hotel bars or restaurants that line the main street beside the Corniche. Nice spot for photography, you can leisurely walk along the most interesting parts of the Corniche, from AUB to Pigeon Rocks in a bit more than half an hour. Th walk is easier to start at Pigeon Rocks though as it will be partly downhill from there. ![]() Beirut, Beirut Region, Lebanon ![]() Added Oct 4, 2009 The central business district is a bit sterile as a pedestrian only area where many nice, but mostly overpriced restaurants are. The areas of Hamra and Gemmayze and along the Corniche are all much nicer IMO. Plenty of fun little spots to hang out and enjoy a drink or watch the sunset. Overall Beirut is a great mix of old and new, where billboards advertising lingerie and alcohol mix with the call to prayer form the mosques...weird and wonderful. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 My favourite spot to wander in Istanbul. The small size and fun mix of shops in the Spice Market made it an enjoyable spot for shopping. Good place to pick up some ceramics or spices (obviously) or Turkish delights and other sweets. Grażyna G. commented... Added Sep 30, 2009 You very good for make information. Tzequi! ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 This is a perfect spot to stroll along during sunset. Be sure to dine on fresh fish at one of the waterside restaurants! ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 I easily get bored in museums, but Topkapi Palace has the benefit of having large open spaces between parts of the building complexes, where you can relax in the sun on a spot of grass. It is quite a busy place, but some of the rooms are impressive, I found the treasury rooms most interesting, and the circumcision room kind of surprising! A great mix of everything. Only issue was this is a fairly pricey attraction that can set you back 50 Turkish Lira or more if you pay the extra to visit the Harem and also pay for a audio tour. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 Some people find Aya Sophia a bit "bland" in colour compared to the Blue Mosque. True, it is not flashy, but there are amazingly detailed frescoes to be seen upstairs. The sheer size of the columns is amazing. I preferred it over the Blue Mosque. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 Stunningly beautiful, but not my favourite Mosque in Turkey. It is impressive for it's size and location...the detailed tiling inside and the minerets and architecture outside are impressive. A bit overrated IMO, admiring it from a distance as part of the Istanbul skyline is what makes it special. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 Grab a seat at the outdoor patio area nearby Aya Sophia and have some Turkish Tea. Watch the people wander about...great place to unwind in between seeing the sites. The park beside the Hippodrome also acts as a nice frame for pictures of the Blue Mosque or Aya Sophia too. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 Great way to spend a day. The cruise that runs daily at around 10:30am is best and will stop for a good time to enjoy lunch at one of the smaller towns. The best scenery is on the Asian side so be sure to get a seat on that side of the boat. The cost for a roundtrip from Istanbul in September 2009 was 20 Turkish Lira. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 Great part of Istanbul, nice place to find a hotel and there are locations of many of the best Turkish delight shops in this part of town as well if you don't want to buy something at the Bazaar. Easy walking distance to all the major attractions of the old part of Istanbul. ![]() Istanbul, Marmara Region, Turkey ![]() Added Sep 29, 2009 The Grand Bazaar is a fantastic mix of winding paths and secret nargile hotspots. Don't be fooled here though as prices are extremely inflated on first offer...haggle hard if you plan to buy any souvenirs. Great place to spend a few hours and do some shopping, although I preferred the simplicity of the spice market myself. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Aug 15, 2009 Nice ambiance here, and an ideal spot for lunch in the summer. The lamburger is great. Vast selection of wines and teas, and decent beer options as well if you just want to stop for a drink instead of a meal. ![]() Male Island, Maldives ![]() Added Aug 1, 2009 There is a collection of hotels right near where Mookai is on Male Island. I know people who've stayed at a few (such as Hotel Relax Inn) and Mookai was the only one everyone seems to enjoy. Nice pool on the roof and rooms are large and clean. Don't expect anything fancy, the hotel is simple, unlike Maldives resorts, but it is great value for enjoying and exploring the capital of the Maldives. No restaurant on premises, but there are lots of places nearby to eat. ![]() Anuradhapura, North Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Aug 1, 2009 Quiet place, a bit away from other hotels and places to stay, but close enough to Anuradhapura. Close to Nuwara lake, so going for a walk or bicycle ride to spot monkeys or watch locals fish or enjoy some romantic time by the lake is a fun way to spend some time. Some of the best fish curry I've had was at this hotel restaurant! ![]() Hambantota, Southern Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Aug 1, 2009 A fairly new hotel in a part of Sri Lanka that was devastated the most by the Indian Ocean Tsunami. The staff here all work hard to please and the food was great. Clean rooms, right on the beach too. large pool and grounds for walking around, very pleasant. Good base for nearby Bundala or even Yala Park. ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 26, 2009 A nice, different experience than the typical big, chain hotels. It's not overlooking the falls but has plenty of charm and style. Very close (within walking distance) to the Casino and Skylon Tower, and the falls. Nice, quiet place. ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 26, 2009 Fallsview Casino is a great complex full of countless games of chance. Teh location is easy to get to day or night, and it's always busy. Pretty much your typical "Vegas" gambling experience without the free drinks and fancy shows / distractions....just good gambling. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 19, 2009 I haven't been since it was renamed the "Canon Theatre" a number of years ago, but it is a fantastic, historic building in Toronto. I agree that it is a wonderful place for a show and has great character in a busy part of downtown Toronto. The Royal Alexandra is another good spot to catch a show in Toronto. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 18, 2009 One of my top 3 Thai favourites. Never had a bad meal here and I've tried probably 10 different dishes off the menu. Most people I know love their pad thai, but I rarely get it because everything else is so good! ![]() Burlington, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jul 3, 2009 This is a great place for a special dinner. You get the same quality of food and service as Toronto, for a more reasonable price. The caesar salad here is one of my faves and the french onion soup is also great. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 28, 2009 This is one of the top 3 places to bring a beer lover in Toronto. It looks quiet and unassuming from outside, but they have amazing beer and the mussels and oysters are always good too! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 28, 2009 I would like to give Hero Burgers higher ratings, but it seems each time I visit, they screw up our orders. I like that they offer peameal bacon and the maple BBQ sauce is yummy. Hopefully next time I'll actually get what I ask for though. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 27, 2009 A pricey place for special occasions, but worth it! Had the best chateaubriand here and the service is always perfect. If I were rich I'd be a regular! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 27, 2009 The sandwiches at this place are amazing. They're huge and tasty. I prefer the pulled pork, but the beef brisket is great too. The sweet potato and yukon gold fries are spiced up perfectly and their BBQ sauce is fantastic. Awesome lunch or dinner spot, and you get tons of food. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 27, 2009 Probably my fave burger spot at the moment. It does get very busy, standing room only at lunch, but worth the wait for fresh burgers. The spicy / chipotle mayo is great, and their onion rings are fantastic. They also have a 2nd location on Yonge Street. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 7, 2009 Nice spot to grab a beer and food at lunch or some after work drinks. Seems to attract a bit of a trendy crowd, but pints of beer are pretty cheap for downtown Toronto. I recommend going for the patio in the summer, as there isn't anything special indoors. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Jun 7, 2009 The Bright Pearl has grown on me over the years. At first it wasn't a favourite, but now I enjoy the variety of items they serve and prefer it over some smaller dim sum restaurants in the area. The service is usually quick, and everything is always hot and tasty. Great place to go as a group! ![]() Embilipitiya, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka ![]() Added May 25, 2009 I wasn't overly impressed with this hotel. The food was quite tasty, but I found the service to be a little lacking for Sri Lanka, where you can become accustomed to superior customer service. The rooms were very clean and a nice size. Location is great for visiting Uda Walawe Park, and if you only need a spot for 1 or 2 nights in the area this is well worth it. ![]() Kalalpitiya, Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added May 25, 2009 This was the most impressive Batik shop I saw in Sri Lanka. The selection was huge, and it was interesting watching the workers make new garments. Anything from sarongs and dresses to t shirts and murals, towels, etc here. Prices were negotiable and reasonable. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 18, 2009 Oddly a fun place. Do not expect anything fancy for food, and the show is geared towards the youngsters in the audience, but surprisingly it is fun entertainment. The jousting and horse riding is quite impressive. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 18, 2009 A fun spot to walk around, and hang out in the summer. Bitterly cold in the winter, but you'll find cyclists, runners, boaters, frisbee players and all sorts of people here in the summer, great view of the Toronto skyline form here too! ![]() Tobermory, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 18, 2009 We camped at Cyprus Lake, and found the sites very spacious and fairly private. There are some nice hikes ranging from 1-5km in length, and the Bruce Trail passes through the park too. A must-do is to visit the "grotto" on the shores of Georgian Bay, amazing colour in the water and great views from the cliffs! ![]() Tobermory, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 18, 2009 The new visitor centre is quite nice, be sure to hike up to the lookout tower for a panoramic view of the area. Flowerpot island is worth the visit if you have time. ![]() Chenango Forks, New York, United States ![]() Added May 2, 2009 This park was surprisingly large and the trails were great. We saw deer and eagles here as well as plenty of smaller animals. The campsites were large, but not overly private. We actually camped at this park on a trip to NYC to save money, although it is a bit far of a drive. ![]() Point Pelee, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 2, 2009 The Marsh Boardwalk is a must-do here, as it winds through waterways filled with birds, snakes, turtles and other animals. The other hiking trails are great fun too. Most people take the shuttle to the 'tip" to stand at the southern point of Canada, but allow time to explore the rest of the park and its natural beauty! ![]() Wheatley, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added May 1, 2009 I can't imagine getting kicked out of a provincial park if you're there to enjoy the nature and serenity. Wheatley offers a nice retreat as long as you do not visit during peak times in the summer, which can be crowded and noisy. Campsites vary a lot, from open grassy spots to nicely treed, water sites. Lots of birds here, and a big beach, but not a ton of wildlife or hiking trails. Quite close to London and "civilization" so don't go here if you're looking for a quiet escape. ![]() Bundala Wellagangoda, Southern Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Apr 19, 2009 Bundala was a great park to visit after some Jeep Safaris in Yala. It is easy to get spoiled by the bears, leopards and other animals in Yala, but Bundala delivered by having virtually no other tourists around. Having a park virtually all to yourself is a great feeling, and the birdlife and animals here were awesome too! ![]() Peradeniya, Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Apr 15, 2009 This was an all-round fantastic place. I'm not a gardener or garden person, but this is much more than a few plants. Huge trees, vast open fields, plenty of picnic areas with benches or shady areas to enjoy the views too. The indoor orchid house was interesting as well. Fun place to walk around for a couple of hours. It is a place very popular for young couples. ![]() Kandy, Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Apr 15, 2009 I thoroughly enjoyed Hotel Suisse. The location right by the water is great, and the old colonial feel is fantastic. Big, spacious rooms and a huge dining room and nice bar area. One of the fancier places I stayed in Sri Lanka. There were a bunch of families here enjoying the pool and sundeck outside too. ![]() Sri Lanka ![]() Added Apr 13, 2009 Very impressive Buddha statue. Standing at it's feet you feel dwarfed in size. The detail and condition of this statue is fantastic, and the site itself is a bit out of the way, so it isn't crowded. ![]() Quito, Northern Highlands, Ecuador ![]() Added Apr 11, 2009 I enjoyed the quieter feel and interesting architecture of the Old Town, vs downtown Quito where most bars, hotels and restaurants are. Fun to walk around, there is a new photo opportunity around every corner (if you're not careful you can get lost in the windy streets though!) ![]() Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil, Brazil ![]() Added Apr 11, 2009 This really is a fantastic beach. I preferred it over Copacabana. Not as crowded and hectic here. Great sand, surf and sun...! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 10, 2009 Typical pub fare and nothing amazing in terms of beer selection. The location is great, in the famous Flat Iron building, and the summer patio can be a fun spot, but not worth going out of the way for. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 10, 2009 We saw a show a couple of months back at Second City, and I have to say it was the best comedy show I've ever been to. All of us were laughing so hard we had tears at some time during the show. They change up shows every few months too. It's right behind Wayne Gretzky's Bar / Restaurant. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Apr 10, 2009 Just so people know - the Brass Rail is a strip club, not really a "bar". If you're into that ... this is probably one of the better ones in Toronto, but if you're looking for a bar...it's not here. ![]() Miami, Florida, United States ![]() Added Mar 27, 2009 Walk along the beach, go for a swim, do some people watching or escape under some shade to enjoy some food and drink. Life is good (and relaxing) in Miami beach...but I much prefer Rio, ha ha. ![]() Sigiriya, Southern Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Mar 22, 2009 This is a real highlight if Sigiriya. More exciting than climbing to the top. There is a long rock wall that was smoothed down (polished) to a reflective surface so when people walked by many years ago they could see their reflection. It's quite impressive as parts of the wall are still shiny and reflective today. Part of the wall is also covered in ancient writings. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 22, 2009 A neat building near the Rogers Centre and ACC, so convenient place to go for a beer tour or buy some beer before/after watching a hockey or baseball game. They offer a variety of tours, more than any other brewery in Toronto. Their beer is average, unless it's really fresh, then it is quite good. Tends to go skunky fast in the green bottle, so I recommend cans. Nice place for fun corporate events as well. ![]() Maldive Islands, Maldives ![]() Added Mar 22, 2009 Alimatha is a nice island and resort area in the Vaavu Atoll. We stopped here for snorkelling one day on a boat tour and saw some rays and a turtle among the tropical fish. The locals refer to it as an Italian island now, as a large number of visitors to this resort are from Italy. ![]() Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe ![]() Added Mar 19, 2009 Took the White Water Rafting from the Zambia side, booked with Safpar. Great guide and amazing rapids! Most of our group did a half raft, half wake board type of combo. For one class 5 rapid only me and the guide were in the raft....needless to say we were not heavy enough and the raft nearly flipped right over! I plunged upside down into the water, but held on the the raft. Great fun...ha ha. Possibly the best rapids I've experienced anywhere. If you only take a 1/2 day tour from Zambia you're stuck with a LONG and HOT hike up out of the steep canyon, which sucks, especially if you're exhausted from battling the rapids. That's why I give it a 4 not a 5 rating. Pokin Y. commented... Added Apr 18, 2009 Sounds like a crazy ride. :) I've only done class 3-4 but not a 5 yet. How fun to do it in Zambia! ![]() Bekopaka, Western Madagascar, Madagascar ![]() Added Mar 19, 2009 The scenery here is unbelievable. Jagged limestone rocks and great hiking where lemurs and crocodiles may be seen, among other smaller creatures like chameleons and scorpions. Some parts are not accessible during the rainy season, but hiking through the tunnel-like pathways is great fun. A must visit in my opinion. ![]() Besavoa-Morondava, Southern Madagascar, Madagascar ![]() Added Mar 19, 2009 I really enjoyed staying along the coast at Morondava. You can grab a nice thatched roof hut near the ocean and listen to the waves crash....or stroll around town and seek out some of the freshest seafood. A very relaxed vibe! ![]() South Shetland Islands ![]() Added Mar 16, 2009 This is a really exciting destination to visit because of the history of the place used by whalers. The old ruins here provide a strange contrast to the penguins and seals lining the shores. Be sure to hike up to the top for a window view outside of the crater! ![]() Newark, New Jersey, United States ![]() Added Mar 16, 2009 Just an average airport. I've found the customs staff here unpredictable, but usually not very friendly. The airport itself is fine, but overpriced. Considering this is one of the gateways to NYC....it could be much worse! ![]() ![]() Added Mar 16, 2009 There is a huge glacier here, which we were lucky enough to see calving and go crashing into the ocean when we visited. We also saw a leopard seal and minke whales along with lots of penguins...amazing place! ![]() ![]() Added Mar 15, 2009 Paradise Bay was one of the first spots where we actually got to step foot on the real Antarctica! Amazing place, with so much ice. We had whales swim within a couple feet of our zodiac here, what an amazing place! ![]() Trinity Peninsula ![]() Added Mar 15, 2009 You can potentially get some small souvenirs from other research stations around Antarctica, but this is the spot to go to mail some Postcards from Antarctica! It's not very big...and lies on a pretty desolate looking rocky outcrop. When we got here the sea was too rough to actually land on the island ourselves, we had to actually send one crew member with a bag full of postcards for us! ![]() South Shetland Islands ![]() Added Mar 15, 2009 The highlight of this island is the chinstrap penguins, who live on this mountainous island. Perhaps the best place to see this type of penguin for any Antarctic trip. ![]() ![]() Added Mar 15, 2009 We were lucky to have only 1 rough day across the Drake. The swells were so high nobody was allowed outside. We had to have seat belts keep our chairs in place when eating. Great times...a true initiation before visiting Antarctica. ![]() Bolivia ![]() Added Mar 15, 2009 A great spot to stop and stretch your legs after some 4WD jeep rides. Be sure to hike around the tiny island and take some photos of the cacti, some of which are hundreds of years old. ![]() Moose, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Mar 7, 2009 A nice campsite, where some sites have amazing views of the Tetons, but most are just average. Sites are spacious enough from tenters. Not very private because of the cottonwoods and vegetation in the area being sparse. Location is great, and this is a spot to camp when more popular places like Jenny Lake are full. ![]() Jackson, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Mar 7, 2009 Right at the foot of the Tetons, this is a very scenic spot, and great place for a picnic or hike! ![]() Mississauga, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 7, 2009 A great place to have fun with friends and challenge each other at some racing games. Also has some of the most accessible batting cages in the Toronto area. Always a fun time! ![]() Canada ![]() Added Mar 6, 2009 If you're up for some mountain biking, this is a great spot, but the trails aren't the best for hiking in the area IMO. Beach area is nice, but a bit small. Good place for a picnic. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2009 I like the Victory, but the 4 star rating is a bit high, it's a 3.5 in my books. Better than your average pub - both beer and food wise - but there isn't a ton of character. The patio is a place I could spend plenty of time at during the summer though. ![]() Milton, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2009 Some of the best lookout points in the area, letting you enjoy the scenery and fresh air. Take the hiking trail through the Nassagaweya Canyon to Crawford Lake, or just stick to the park for a nice afternoon outing. ![]() Milton, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2009 For the most part you don't get a great "nature" experience here unless you're able to find a quiet spot along the escarpment to look for vultures. Can get busy and crowded on weekends, but the trails are much quieter during non-peak times. Take the hiking trail that connects to Rattlesnake Point for a more challenging hike. ![]() Milton, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2009 The raptor Centre is a nice learning experience and the trails here include one around the marsh, very popular for birders. Many fun events including sleigh rides (winter) or horse drawn wagons on weekends. Really nice place for a picnick. ![]() Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2009 A decent place to stroll around, not many trails, but the escarpment edge views are nice. Great spot for climbing, or just enjoying nature. ![]() Canada ![]() Added Mar 5, 2009 Hilton Falls is a great little conservation area for cross country skiing, biking or hiking. The beaver dam trail is great, with decent chances of actually seeing a beaver during the fall. ![]() Fort Collins, Colorado, United States ![]() Added Feb 16, 2009 Any restaurant that makes its money off of chicken fingers should get 5 stars, but I couldn't go that high for two reasons. First I thought the menu was a bit limiting. I expected to walk in and find 20 different flavours or varieties, but it's not like that - there are a handful of options. Second was the sauce - their "canes" sauce is good but not great. As a Canadian the only thing that properly works with chicken fingers is plum sauce. Great idea, I was happy to stumble across this place, but more sauces and more variety are needed. ![]() Dubai, United Arab Emirates ![]() Added Feb 15, 2009 I was disappointed slightly. People talk about the excess of Dubai and you can buy anything at the airport. Sure...it has some cars and cheap gold as others mentioned, but overall the prices aren't great and there isn't much that the "average" traveller can buy (assuming you're not in the market for Versace or similar products). I was in the new Terminal 3, and it was nice and spacious, but I found the food options quite limited and the quiet lounges were are closed when I was there (twice). Better than most airports, but plenty of room for improvements. ![]() Colombo, Western Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 15, 2009 This was a very pleasant hotel. I got a room on the top floor with nice views of the city streets. The restaurant area was quite nice and the hotel also has a lively club and good bar to enjoy some drinks. It was nice staying in a hotel with a bit of history to it. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 15, 2009 This is one of those places that everyone is comfortable at. If we're stuck making plans we'll just meet here and grab some food (the wookie balls are great) or a pint of Creemore or play some pool. It's nothing fancy, but it always has a friendly, fun vibe. Heather N. commented... Added Mar 6, 2009 The wookie balls are great. I agree! ![]() Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2009 The main drag at Wasaga Beach is a people-watching, shopping, beach-side paradise in the summer. Young guys and gals checking each other out, families with kinds enjoying rides and sugary foods...it really is a lively spot....can be very hard to find a spot to park during popular summer weekends. We used to visit every year during the August long weekend. If you go in the winter time it's like a ghost town! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2009 This is a nice place to visit especially in the summer. Makes for an interesting venue to bring a date. They have slot machines as well for those who want to gamble a bit. Nice spot to just wander around too even when no races are going on. ![]() Collingwood, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Feb 14, 2009 This is easily the best ski destination close to Toronto...only a few hours away. It is a year round destination too and offers fun hiking and biking in the summer. Be sure to check it out if you want a resort type experience (lots of nice places to stay) while enjoying the outdoors. ![]() Maale, Male' Atolls, Maldives ![]() Added Feb 14, 2009 This was a great resort with plenty to do. A wide range of people staying here and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. As with almost any Maldives resort it was very expensive, but even the most basic rooms here are great! Even if you are staying in Male or another nearby island, you must visit this island as it has a number of the best restaurants in all of the Maldives. ![]() Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico ![]() Added Feb 8, 2009 I have to give the ruins a lack lustre rating because there isn't much to them. A few nice temples and the location is unbeatable. The site is a bit lacking in scale compared to other Mayan sites. A lot of people just seem to visit the area to head to the beautiful beaches which these ruins overlook. A nice stop, especially if you're in Cancun or Playa del Carmen, but treat yourself to some other Mayan sites too! ![]() Maale, Male' Atolls, Maldives ![]() Added Feb 6, 2009 Fishing is the backbone of the Maldives, so it is almost a must-see to visit the fish market on Male island. It actually doesn't smell so bad as it is an open air roofed building - watching the row of men gutting and beheading fish is quite a spectacle! The is the real Maldives, not a fabricated resort experience. ![]() Maale, Male' Atolls, Maldives ![]() Added Feb 6, 2009 I only visited the area but did not go inside the museum, I found the nearby Sultans Garden quite interesting instead! ![]() Pinnawala, Sabaragamuwa Region, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 6, 2009 I give Pinnawela only 3 stars because it is a bit sad seeing so many elephants together and knowing they've been mistreated or abandoned, injured, etc. It is great that the elephants have been given a place to live and enjoy life, but at times it is troubling to see elephants with 3 legs or trunks that don't work, or that have mental stress and need to be chained up. I'd rather support this place than anywhere that allows people to ride elephants for "fun" though. It is impressive to see so many of them in one place. If you want to see elephants though, I think it is better to support the national parks and see them in the wild. ![]() Yala, Southern Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 5, 2009 The best wildlife park in Sri Lanka. If you only do one safari at a park - go here. You may not see elephants though (you probably will, but Uda Walawe and even Bundala are better for Elephant spotting). But here you will likely see crocodiles, wild boar, monkeys, land monitors, spotted deer, sambar and peacocks too. If lucky you'll spot leopards or bears as well. (the Sloth bears were my favourite animals here...more exciting than spotting leopards!) ![]() Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 5, 2009 A sunny day is very rare here, so don't let that stop you. It's still a great hike and park to visit if overcast or a bit rainy. You may spot birds and sambar (sp?), a large deer here. The Bakers Falls are quite nice too. I kind of liked "mini" World's End better than the bigger "World's End' view...but that's just my preference. I thought it was more photogenic there. You'll have to hike it to judge for yourself! ![]() Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 5, 2009 This is one challenging trek...or pilgrimage. But since when were pilgrimages easy? I did the touristy thing of arriving for sunrise, and was rewarded with a magically clear morning as the sun rose and burnt off the clouds form the surrounding jungle. The trek is made easier by the frequent tea stops and small rest huts ... you can get a sugar or caffeine fix whenever you need. The route I took was about 9km up and 12km down...took the more scenic route down, through part of the forest. This is a must experience if you're there at the right season. I met probably 1000 or more people that morning and only a dozen foreign tourists, it was a great experience. Be sure to get a guide, they can help provide valuable information on the history of the area, the temple etiquette and ensure you reach the top in time too! ![]() Nuwara Eliya, Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 5, 2009 Nuwara Eliya is a bit of an escape from the sweltering heat you may encounter in many other parts of Sri Lanka. Here, you're at a comfortable (much cooler) elevation. Many Sri Lankans visit this area for a vacation, for good reason. Lots of waterfalls and misty mornings are common. If you're looking for a scenic train ride in Sri Lanka, then this part of the hill country is the place to go! Spend a day and wander around town...most people don't and they're missing out. ![]() Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 5, 2009 Dubbed the "Lion Rock" because near the top are two giant lion paws carved out of the rock. It is said it was an entire lion head at one time. There are lots of stairs to climb here, but it is worth the effort to catch a glimpse of the rock paintings and soak in the majestic view of the surrounding forest and towns from atop the mountain. ![]() Kandy, Central Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka ![]() Added Feb 5, 2009 Ahhh, the Tooth Relic. This Temple was impressive for the gold plated fencing, the exquisite paintings and the overall vibe you get from the crowd of people wanting to catch a glimpse of the Tooth Relic. Be warned that this place can get very hot and very crowded. A popular place to visit in Sri Lanka. ![]() Las Vegas, Nevada, United States ![]() Added Dec 23, 2008 Close to all the action, yet cheaper than all the glitzy spots. While you can get free drinks by sitting at slots anywhere, I remember Circus Circus was one of the best spots for getting quick, free drinks without spending much money. Didn't stay there...but did spend some money. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Nov 23, 2008 The Mercado Artesanal is the best place to pick up some wood carvings or Rapa Nui culture souvenirs. There are around 20 or so table top vendors in the building who all have a selection of different carvings, t-shirts, postcards, jewelry and other items available for sale. Some have impressive artwork and detailed sculptures. It is a much better experience buying directly from the islanders who have created / carved the products themselves in many cases. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 15, 2008 The prices may be high, but the location is great. Around 100 beers that are all good, and food that is tasty. It has improved a lot since opening a couple of months ago. Always busy! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 10, 2008 The Horseshoe is a fun spot to catch a small show downtown. Los of Indie Rock bands...check it out! ![]() Cleveland, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Nov 9, 2008 We were impressed with the Chophouse. I didn't realize at the time that it was a chain (usually bad), but the house beers were great, steaks and meals were fantastic and the vibe was casual enough for stopping in for food after an Indians game. You can find cheaper places, but we felt it was good value. Worth a visit! ![]() Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, United States ![]() Added Nov 8, 2008 I haven't been to the brewery (yet) but can vouch for their tasty beers. Some of the best in the US as far as I'm concerned. Their pumpkin beer is really tasty and their DFH 90 is their best beer in my opinion. ![]() Cambridge, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 7, 2008 Decent spot for some summer fun and easy hiking. Sunsets can be really nice here. Usually too much noise and too many dogs running around the beach, turning it into a bit of a zoo in the summer. ![]() Canada ![]() Added Nov 7, 2008 Rockwood won't "wow" you with wilderness, but it is a friendly camping / day-use park that offers some easy canoeing around a lake where you can find an isolated spot for a nice picnic lunch. ![]() Arlington, Virginia, United States ![]() Added Nov 3, 2008 A peaceful place to visit and reflect on life and history. For many of us - whether you're a foreign tourist or an American - life goes on largely without incident, and we enjoy travelling the world freely. Places like this serve as reminders that many others have fought, died or struggled for the freedoms we take for granted. ![]() Washington, District of Columbia, United States ![]() Added Nov 3, 2008 I'm not a statue / manmade monument person, but this is an impressive site for an important figure in US history. The size and scale makes it stand out as a worthy visit. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 3, 2008 The Irish Embassy is a great little pub downtown. Be prepared to stand around as it gets crowded after work hours and can get quite noisy too. Food is decent though, and if you do get a table its a good spot to spend a few hours. Not far from many other places if you find it too crowded to enjoy a beer. ![]() Tik'al, Peten Region (Northern Guatemala), Guatemala ![]() Added Nov 2, 2008 Tikal is a wondrous place. You can't help but imagine how amazing it must have been when the area was once a thriving city. Howler monkeys and coatis and other creatures keep you company as you climb temples and walk around the complex. A must visit in Guatemala! ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Nov 1, 2008 Get a room with a view of the falls! This hotel is close to everything and offers some of the best views. The only place I stay...you can usually get a cheap rate if you plan ahead and watch for deals. ![]() Orillia, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 Sorry Webers, but you don't make the grade. This place is hugely popular and I've frequented it numerous times out of necessity. The line ups are always insane in the summer and not worth the wait. You're paying for nostalgia and charcoal bbq here - not big juicy burgers - as they're pretty bland at Webers. Better than a fast food chain, but if you can drive another hour or two - cook your own bbq. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 Pitchers of sangria are popular for some people, they have good food / drink deals most days of the week. The boneless chicken is the best thing on the menu. ![]() Besavoa-Morondava, Southern Madagascar, Madagascar ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 Baobab Alley is an odd attraction of Madagascar where a group of these huge fire-resistant 'upside down' trees have created an alley alongside the road. If you've seen a photo from Madagascar with a bunch of Baobab trees this is where it is from. We thought it was a great spot, although our truck broke down and we arrived at dusk so we couldn't appreciate it to the full extent. Try to arrive early in the day if you can. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 Visiting Easter Island during the Tapati Festival is the only way to get an in depth appreciation of the history of the island and it's culture. Rapa Nui language, culture and traditions are slowing fading and this is the one event dedicated to preserving that heritage. It lasts 2 weeks and is a never ending stream of contests and events! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 We went here on a whim for the first time and were absolutely impressed. You can watch them cook your steak if you desire, and they do not mess around - serving it up on wooden platters. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and the appetizers were fantastic as well. Not as expensive as some high end places downtown, but just as good. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 The AGO as we call it. It has always had impressive collections and you can pick up some souvenirs from many great Canadian artists including the group of Seven. If you are in to galleries, this is a must in Toronto. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 The PATH is super convenient. It is an underground series of walkways with more than 1000 shops and places to eat. Perfect way to get around when the weather is bad in Toronto. Supposedly holds a world record for the largest underground shopping centre. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 This place could either be classed as a restaurant or a nightlife spot, if you're just looking for good beer. The food is a bit pricey, but good. Their "Peculiar" and "Best Bitter Special" beers are best. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 Panorama doesn't have the best drinks or best food, but it does have the best patio views. Way above all the surrounding buildings, you're 51 floors up and get the best views of downtown Toronto. If you think the CN Tower is neat, this is better for actual views of the city. ![]() Georgeville, Cayo, Belize ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 The waterfalls and caves at Mountain Pine Ridge are fun to explore. The downside is that much of the reserve has been devastated in recent years by pine beetles, so the blanket of forest isn't much in many places. Still worth a visit as attractions are many, but be prepared for some ugly dead zones of trees. ![]() Caye Corker, Belize City, Belize ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 Not much to see honestly, aside from the story of how it got created, it just looks like any part of an island. A hurricane swept through and cut a path through here - there is decent swimming and it is a good spot to watch the sun set or grab a drink at least. ![]() Belize City, Belize City, Belize ![]() Added Oct 31, 2008 The reef off the coast of Belize is said to be only second to the Great Barrier Reef, and some people like diving / snorkelling here more than Australia. We saw TONS of fish, sharks, rays and all sorts of smaller odd looking things when snorkelling in Belize. You're missing out on 1/2 the fun if you stay on land! ![]() Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 We strolled by this past summer and enjoyed watching some boats glide themselves through the locks. Quite a thing to watch. For a country Capital, Ottawa has a great, friendly vibe to it..and friendly boaters too! ![]() Bryce Canyon, Utah, United States ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 The Hoodoos at Bryce Canyon are simply breathtaking. Photos may look great, but seeing them for yourself makes you wonder how such crazy creations can be made...loved it! ![]() Mattawa, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Surprisingly busy for a park that is not the easiest to get to. Try to get a campsite right on the water especially if you have a canoe or kayak. ![]() Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 I've only been once and wasn't overly impressed with the park. While the trails, in particular the Fire Tower Trail, were enjoyable, the campsites and general park facilities were mediocre. It did rain most of the time we were there, so maybe that caused us to think less of the park. We will return again for another try. ![]() Puerto Iguazu, Litoral Region, Argentina ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 The Argentinian side is more impressive for close up views and getting wet. The walkways are spectacular. Make sure you have a way to keep your camera dry though! ![]() Cataratas del Iguazu, Litoral Region, Argentina ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 The Devil's Throat. This was a spectacular waterfall, the most impressive of all waterfalls at Iguassu in my opinion! ![]() Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 I found this park quite enjoyable. The sunsets were nice and nearby Grand Bend provides something to do when you get bored or weather is bad. The sand dunes and beaches here were impressive. Burley campground is my favourite. ![]() Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 A nice park to visit in the spring as many birds stop here and keep the trees buzzing with activity. Bring your bike, as the trails here are decent. Just be wary of poison ivy as it is abundant in this park! ![]() Wawa, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Even if you just drive through the park on a cross Canada driving tour, the views are spectacular. But camping here is even better. The petroglyphs along the Agawa Rock Indian trail are unique. Lots of challenging hikes and coastal kayaking here. If lucky you'll possibly hear wolves at night! ![]() Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Killarney is for the backcountry explorers, with more canoe-in sites than car camping sites. The trails along the coast are fantastic. Wildlife is abundant and winter is a great time to visit too. The Cranberry Bog trails is a nice hike. ![]() Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 The nature of this park is splendid, although the maintenance of trails and visitor centre was poor our last visit (summer 2008). Large campsites and the region is known for the esker lakes formed from ice age time. Go in August for blueberry season and pick some wild berries yourself! ![]() Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Great park, especially in autumn, when leaves are changing colour. Take the ferry across the lake then hike the Cliff Top Trail, you won't regret it. We've seen deer here more than once at dusk. ![]() Oakville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 The trails here are pretty short and simple, good for taking a jog or the dog for a walk, but not for a serious outdoor hike. The pool is massive! There are some old farm areas to explore and decent biking trails here too. ![]() Huntsville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 During spring or fall this is a nice park and I suggest taking the beaver meadow trail early in the morning. It can be noisy and crowded during peak summer months and is a bit too close to the highway for my liking. ![]() Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Also known as Gamla Stan...the cobbled streets are easy to get lost in especially at night, but the fun cafes and picturesque streets make for a fun day of walking around. ![]() Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 This is perhaps the best winery tour in Niagara region. Their facilities are unique too, and they have outdoor concerts here in the summer. Try the Meritage red wine! ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Marineland is a park very much geared towards younger children. They do have some fun rides, but the main attraction here is the aquarium shows with Beluga whales and "Friendship Cove" where you can watch Killer Whales. A great day trip for families visiting Niagara Falls. ![]() Cambridge, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 I enjoy heading to African Lion Safari, however the baboons will destroy your car (eat, pull anything that is loose!) Take the lion safari shuttle bus tour instead. Some animals are sleepy during the day, so get there early. ![]() Uyuni, Southern Altiplano, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 A must see stop on the way out to the salt flats. Where trains went to rust away in the sun and salt. Odd place, but some of these trains are in decent shape and climbing on them (be careful) makes for fun photos. Too bad they don't run anymore as it must have been an interesting ride. ![]() Laguna Verde, Southern Altiplano, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 One of the most picturesque spots in the Altiplano. It is a very brightly coloured green lagoon with fantastic volcanic mountains in the background. Such a crazy contrast of colours here - remarkable. ![]() Sucre, South-Central Bolivia, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Great spot for a picnic in Sucre. Pack your own lunch or grab something from a shop and hang out at one of the many benches in this fairly large park in Sucre. ![]() Sucre, South-Central Bolivia, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Absolutely impressed with the location and cleanliness of this hotel. The food was also quite nice and they had free internet. It is very close to the main square...highly recommended. ![]() Sucre, South-Central Bolivia, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 The ubiquitous 25 de Mayo. This plaza in the centre of Sucre is actually very nice with a pleasant mix of vendors and families and tourists hanging out enjoying the views. Museums, restaurants and shops line the streets around the plaza. Nice statues and fountains located in this plaza. ![]() Sucre, South-Central Bolivia, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Parque Cretácico! Yes this place is quite fun. The dinosaur statues are actually really impressive, the best Dinosaur park I've been to. You can only see the footprints from far away, but the guided tour and statues are quite good. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 It's a nice hotel. Has history in that the Queen and Royalty have stayed here. Nice for an event, but I find the rooms dated and small (typical of an old hotel). I somehow ended up on a smoking floor once...horrible. I like the architecture, and the area - right downtown across from the train station is perfect. Don't pay rack rates though, as for that price there are better options. ![]() Moose, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Oct 28, 2008 Mormon Row was a perfect spot to stop and walk around to frame some photographs of the Teton Mountain Range. Early morning is the best time to visit. We saw bison and pronghorn antelope in the area when we visited. ![]() Chapleau, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 28, 2008 This park is a fair drive away from almost anywhere, being about 150km from Sault St. Marie. The drive is worth it. Some of the biggest campsites, many on the lake, and a variety of hiking trails attract most people, some people come for the fishing. We saw our first black bears at this park, and fell asleep to loon calls every night! ![]() Kigamboni, Tanzania ![]() Added Oct 28, 2008 This is a good spot for a cheap place to stay as well. There is a campsite called "Mikadi Beach" and a handful of other backpacker / overland focused spots too. Depending on weather you may ant to grab a beachside hut. The ferry ride over is great fun too! ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 28, 2008 The best deal on Easter Island! While you can camp on the property of some other places, this is THE spot for backpackers and campers. You're bound to meet people from around the world who will join up on some hikes and adventures around Easter Island. Ideal location right near the coast, on the edge of town. ![]() United States ![]() Added Oct 28, 2008 The short hike to Mesa Arch isn't very difficult, but if you keep your eyes open you may spot some small wildlife such as rabbits or lizards. Mesa Arch was great as you can actually get right up beside it, or if you dare, even climb atop it for a great photo! ![]() Moab, Utah, United States ![]() Added Oct 27, 2008 Another unbelievably scenic park in Utah. I camped at Dead Horse Point and tried to drive to Canyonlands to see the sunrise at Mesa Arch but got there a bit late. Don't make the same mistake...get there early if you've already seen the sunrise/set at Arches this is an awesome spot too. ![]() Denver, Colorado, United States ![]() Added Oct 26, 2008 Perfect location, and some of the best views in all of baseball if you are along the first base line - you can see the Rocky mountains in the background! ![]() Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 The best skyline views of any ballpark I've been to. The ability to walk around the park and look out across the river to downtown Pittsburgh, and the scenic bridges nearby too, make it more than just a ballpark. losing off the streets for games gives it a small town feel in a big city, and eating at the Outback Steakhouse in left field is the best way to enjoy some pre game festivities. Classic, simple park that others should try to imitate. ![]() Cleveland, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 Within walking distance from many hotels downtown, the R&R HOF is a great attraction. The souvenir shop itself has TONS of stuff to buy, and the guitars, posters, memorabilia and history in this place is hard to believe. Long live rock and roll! ![]() Cleveland, Ohio, United States ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 A great ballpark that is downtown close to some bars and restaurants for pre or post game drinks and food. I've had tickets on both sides of the park and it's spacious and open. Can get pretty ho in the sun in the summer since it is so open - but that's the way it should be! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 One of the best family-focused deals in Toronto for those on a budget. Summer fun at the waterpark and the Cinesphere IMAX theatre is the best movie experience you'll ever have! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 Toronto has a plethora of Indian restaurants, and Indian lunch buffets are a great deal. I have not been to the Gerrard location, which I hear is better than the King Street location. My experience at the King Street location is that the food was tasty and selection solid, but they continually ran out of naan bread during the busy lunch buffet time. I went here twice (King St location) and have to recommend trying one of the other stops on King (Aroma, Dhaba) or Queen St (India Palace) instead if you're going for a lunch buffet. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 Very close to Rogers Centre / Skydome and the ACC, where the top sports teams play in Toronto. So for convenience visiting a local brewery it is nice. The building they're in is called the 'roundhouse', and is unique for it's shape and architecture. A tour is worthwhile. Steamwhistle makes only 1 beer, a pilsner, and when fresh it is really good. ![]() Yellowstone, Wisconsin, United States ![]() Added Oct 25, 2008 Also dubbed the "Grand canyon of Yellowstone", this is s stunning spot for hiking and photography. Get there in the morning to hike along the rim and get great photos of places like Lower Falls, where you may be lucky to catch a rainbow too! ![]() Quebec, Quebec, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 There aren't many places in Canada where you might mistakenly think you've somehow ended up in Europe. The narrow cobbled streets, family shops and culture of historic Quebec City could be the best place to experience this feeling, and appreciate the history of Canada. ![]() Quebec, Quebec, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 A great site of importance to Canadian history, and now a large park within Quebec. A must visit. ![]() Bergen, West Norway, Norway ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 The fish market gives you a good insight into everyday life in Bergen. If you're hanging around, get some fresh fish, but if you're just there for a short time, stop by anyways! ![]() Bergen, West Norway, Norway ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 This is a must do, ride up to the top and enjoy a panoramic view of Bergen. My favourite place in Norway. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 Union Station isn't as grand as hubs you'll find in New York or some other cities, but for Toronto it has nice architecture with large pillars at the Front Street entrance. Perfect downtown location, close to everything if you're coming from out of town. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 Overall, probably the best brewery and brewpub in Toronto. Tankhouse Ale is a great beer, and they often have some special brews only available here. Only drawback is it can be noisy and service slips sometimes. Food is really good here as well! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 Great restaurants and galleries! It is a bit out of the way to get to, but worth a visit to see some old industrial buildings converted into some hip and interesting shops. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 The surrounding residential area is quite friendly, and there are countless places to east the best Greek cuisine in Toronto. Taste of the Danforth is a fun event, but anytime in the summer is perfect for grabbing a spot on a patio here. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 Chinatown is where you can get some of the cheapest meals in Toronto! Plus some rare finds like delicious jackfruit for eating, or dried seahorses for ?? Lots of nice Dim Sum spots. Word of warning though - some eateries are plagued by rats, makes sure they have green 'pass' signs in the windows. ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 Shea was a classic stadium, I'm happy I made it there before it's time came to an end. Nothing over the top, nothing ridiculous, just a ballpark that had a nice setting and exciting fans. Can't wait to see what they do with the new Mets stadium! ![]() Kyongju, Kyongsan Province, South Korea ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 This place had a serene, peaceful feeling to it, from the buildings, bridges and surrounding landscapes. Even the numerous vendors selling all sorts of local delicacies throughout the grounds were in good spirits. The cloud bridges, Dabotap pagoda and the bronze Buddha were some of the highlights for me. Very picturesque place. ![]() Kyongju, Kyongsan Province, South Korea ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 This is one massive bell! It has such interesting artwork and calligraphy engraved onto it, and the top is shaped like a dragon. Very cool piece of Silla art and South Korean history. ![]() Kyongju, Kyongsan Province, South Korea ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 The Museum complex was a great insight into the past. I knew little about the history of South Korea before visiting here, and was impressed with everything - the royal tomb, crowns and artifacts, and of course the huge Emille Bell (Bell of King Seong deok). ![]() Kyongju, Kyongsan Province, South Korea ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 Anapji pond is a great spot to visit after the Gyeongju Museum. It is very scenic with the pond being home to various colourful birds and plants, and a number of restored buildings surrounding it. This historic site traces back to the Silla Kingdom of Korea, more than 1000 years ago. ![]() Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 Absolutely! Head out around Stockholm on the subway system. It is quick and convenient to get everywhere. The highlight is really the huge platforms and amazing artwork though. very cool and clean and well done. Nice one Stockholm, why can't more subways be this bright and friendly? ![]() Williamsburg, Virginia, United States ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 Definite highlight of a trip down the east coast US to Virginia. Busch Gardens has some great rolelr coaster rides and typical amusement park schtick. First time I ever saw Clydesdale horses too, they were huge! ![]() Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 Wow, this place can get HOT in the summer, I loved it! The beach is very big too, which I found surprising as I didn't know much about Virginia Beach prior to arrival. Lots of nearby places to eat, play golf and enjoy the area. ![]() Phnom Penh, Cambodia ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 A nice Wat in downtown Phnom Penh. Buy a ticket and head on in after climbing up the impressive staircase lined with snakes. Outside in the park area and around the Wat it is a bustling area with people hawking their goods and vying for your money. Make an offering and wish for good luck as the locals do! ![]() Phnom Penh, Cambodia ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 I love this monument. It was the first thing I 'noticed' when I arrived in Phnom Penh. You can walk to it from virtually anywhere downtown. The only downside is the always busy street right in front of it. This historical significance of it makes it a photo worthy stop. ![]() Phnom Penh, Cambodia ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 It is fantastic from the outside, the roofwork is very intricate. If you've got the time in the city it is worth a visit, but not a top attraction in my opinion either. Consider visiting this after Wat Phnom, Royal Palace and other attractions. ![]() Phnom Penh, Cambodia ![]() Added Oct 21, 2008 Agreed on the beauty of the Silver Pagoda inside the Royal Palace complex. This is the most attractive public building. The Buddha statues are simply stunning. ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 The setting for the tower, as you walk to it from town, along a nice boardwalk is quite nice and conjurs up that romantic feeling one might expect in Paris. Even a non-city person like me can enjoy it! ![]() Vaughan, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 A few choice stores and attractions here that you won't find elsewhere, including Lucky Strike, an "upscale" bowling spot! ![]() Beachburg, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 This isn't the only White Water rafting company on the Ottawa River, but they are the most popular for a reason - good location, great rafting and experienced guides. Throw in camping, cottages and even a bungee jump and you have everything you need! ![]() Gananoque, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 A nice summer or fall outing, bring the spouse, but maybe not young kids. A good relaxing daytrip. ![]() Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 I found this overpriced and a bit lacking for a Zoo. A few exhibits had us wondering if safety was lacking - such as seeing an ostrich that looked 'stuck' in a barbed wire fence and nobody supervising the petting zoo area. The animals seemed in good health at least. For not much more money I prefer the Toronto Zoo. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 Ontario Science Centre is perhaps the best educational fun for kids in Toronto. It is a bit out of the way, in the east end of the city, but between the IMAX movies and interactive learning games, it has a creative atmosphere for youngsters. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 20, 2008 A hockey mecca...well put together and great location. A must for any hockey fan visiting Toronto. ![]() Miami, Florida, United States ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 South Beach - great beach, bodies and bars. Good party spot, a bit hectic and crowded for my tastes though. ![]() Orlando, Florida, United States ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 Epcot is great. I think adults can appreciate it more than really young kids as the themes of the rides and area are more advanced, but still fun for kids. Lots of good food and rides to enjoy. Spaceship Earth is cool. ![]() Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 Great spot! Unlike anywhere else on the islands. We entered the lagoon in our zodiac boats and cut the engines as you have to paddle here to negotiate the mangrove swamps and lagoons. We saw countless sea turtle couples mating in the water, a bunch of white tipped sharks and different types of rays including the hugest ray I've ever seen. This spot still feels pristine and untouched by humans - perfect. ![]() Islas Plaza, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 The Opuntia here have grown into taller trees instead of short shrubs, as there are no tortoises around, making the island a great spot for taking photos of these cacti type plants. The pathway around the island is dotted with sea lions, marine iguanas and land iguanas everywhere. I also saw lava lizards and swallow tailed gulls here. ![]() Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 "Chinese Hat" island as it is known was more impressive than I anticipated. Beautiful turquoise waters at the landing area contained playful sea lions. There was a huge beach master patrolling his harem too, honking at and chasing competitor males away, it was great to watch. There were some really nice lava tubes and formations on the island that I did not see anywhere else in the Galapagos. Marine iguanas were all around as well. ![]() Isla Bartolome, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 I found Pinnacle Rock an odd attraction. It does make for nice photos, especially if the sun is low on the horizon. The hike to the summit of Bartolome island is worth it for the views of not just Pinnacle Rock, but the surrounding islands. What I found most appealing with Pinnacle Rock was going out snorkelling to it from the beach. This spot provided the most colourful show of fish I saw anywhere in the Galapagos as well as some white tipped sharks. Penguins and sea lions often hang out by Pinnacle Rock as well. ![]() Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 Observing the tortoises here instead of at a research station is 100 times better. You are free to wander around some fields, paths and explore some water holes where the giant tortoises feel at home. Some of them may be 'wild', but they're mostly drawn to these ranches as they enjoy the vegetation provided to them. You will see huge tortoises, medium sized ones and even smaller ones here, eating, sleeping, mating, 'running' and generally hanging out. Be sure not to get too close to them, as they will hiss and retract their heads into their shells - give them space and enjoy the scenery! They eve have a couple of full grown (empty) tortoise shells here on display to help visualize just how big these creatures can get. ![]() Puerto Ayora, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 The CDRS on Santa Cruz is well developed with informative signs and tours by staff. You can get up close to the tortoises and learn about the breeding program, as well as issues surrounding their endangerment (such as feral goats). it is amazing to see how big these tortoises can be! ![]() Santa Maria, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 The history of the site is more interesting than what it looks like today. A bunch of containers and signs from tourists are assembled here, with the intention that if you find a postcard addressed to someone near where you live, you take it home with you and mail it to them, since there is no actual post office service here. ![]() Santa Maria, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 Unbelievable! The snorkelling here is tougher than other sites because you're out in the ocean, and have to swim against the open seas. Inside the crater, you're sheltered so it is easier, and you can spot eels, rays, angelfish and sea lions and more. Outside the crater is where you will spot even more starfish, and sharks - possibly hammerhead sharks. Great for snorkelling, even better for diving! ![]() Santa Maria, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 While this island isn't the most impressive visually, the flamingo lagoon did provide a great background for taking pictures of them. The beach on the east side is much nicer than the west, as you may run into sea lions or sea turtles there. The trail is moderate, not too difficult. ![]() Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 Floreana was a great island to visit, as it is a bit out of the way, so many tour boats do not go here. Our guide told us about the interesting human history of the island, which would make for a great movie. We saw lots of finches, flamingos, laval lizards, boobies, sea lions and sea turtles here. ![]() Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina ![]() Added Oct 19, 2008 If you want stunning views of Ushuaia and the ocean beyond, then head up to Martial Glacier, only a short taxi / shuttle ride away. There is a chairlift to take you up part way, then a fairly steep hike on loose grounds in places. It is a challenge that requires proper footwear but no technical climbing. It is much more challenging if you go outside of the summer season. ![]() Denver, Colorado, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 More of a nuisance than an attraction. There is nothing here to make it different from any other airport, but I've seen plenty worse. ![]() Denver, Colorado, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Missed going to a Colorado Rockies game, so we ended up here instead. Small spot, a bit hidden off the street. But once you're inside and see the walls covered in beer bottles from around the world, you know they're serious. They have a beer 'menu' and some tasty food to go with their many options. The staff were super friendly suggesting some local beers for us to try. ![]() Zanzibar City, Zanzibar & Pemba, Tanzania ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Nungwi beach and the area are still fantastic! I had some of the most amazing seafood here, I still don't know what 1/2 of it was, except it was delicious. Go out on a dhow cruise and enjoy the colourful sunsets from the beach. There are usually lots of backpackers around and beach parties if you enjoy staying out at night. ![]() Brazil ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Now this is cool, and unliek anything you can do in other parts of the world. What makes it so cool? You're snorkelling in a RIVER that has crystal clear water. Tropical fish surround you as the current carries you downstream. No effort involved really, just enjoy the scenery, and maybe spot a caiman in the water too! ![]() Las Vegas, Nevada, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 M&M's are one of my faves, and this store is great. Any colour and any type of M&M you can imagine. Toys, and so much more...M&M overdose! ![]() Las Vegas, Nevada, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 This is where I stayed, and loved it. Our window looked out over the sphynx. The inclinators are super fun. I saw countless peopel fall over or lose their balance in these special elevators. The rooms are great and the gambling here is average, we gambled at Mandalay Bay and other hotels mostly. ![]() Las Vegas, Nevada, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Absolutely mesmerizing. The fountains and music make such a great setting. You can stand here for hours and watch the water dance. My #1 non-casino attraction in Las Vegas. If this were indoors they'd charge $100 to see it. ![]() Las Vegas, Nevada, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 After a lengthy day of touring all the Casinos, this was the one I would have wanted to stay at if I wasn't already at Luxor - it was classy and cool. ![]() Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Very nice lake, and even if you don't see Ogopogo, there are lots of nearby shops and restaurants close to shore. Good spot to grab a book and blanket and just enjoy the scenery and sun. The Canada Day fireworks over the lake are very impressive, if you're there in early July. ![]() Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Mission Hill is perhaps the most successful and well known winery in Kelowna. The wines are great, and the setting of the winery is fantastic. They have an open terrace for enjoying a drink and food in the summer, and the winery tour itself is quite impressive as well. Don't miss it! ![]() Isla Espanola, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 This is a fun beach to listen to and watch the antics of sea lions. They are literally strewn across this lengthy beach, and you often have to walk around them as they head to / from the water. Swimming and snorkelling here is great fun because the inquisitive sea lions come and check you out. Be sure to get some photos of yourself on the beach with the sea lions here! ![]() Isla Espanola, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 Wow! So much to see here. Very bright coloured marine iguanas (red and pink), plus friendly, inquisitive sea lions (except the beach master, stay clear of the dominate male as he can be aggressive!) Blue footed booby birds seem to be everywhere too, and you'll also spot lava lizards and some more rare species such as the Española Mockingbird, Galapagos Hawk or if the season is right - even Waved Albatross. Most wildlife here is unique to this island as it is the oldest one in the archipelago. It takes time to get here, but worth the sail! ![]() Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 This beach on Santa Cruz is one of the nicest white sand beaches on all the the Galapagos islands. Great snorkelling and swimming, with outcrops of lava rocks where sally light foot crabs and pelicans hang out. You'll also find marine iguanas around, and parts of the beach are used for nesting sea turtles when laying eggs. There is also a lagoon to enjoy glimpses of flamingoes and other birds. ![]() Orlando, Florida, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 You can't help but have fun here. The rides, the magic, the people, the food. It's all top-knotch. Even the roughest traveller can have fun here if they relax and try to be a kid. ![]() Orlando, Florida, United States ![]() Added Oct 18, 2008 The number of animals here is great, and lots of interactive activities for kids. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was one of the best 'water' theme parks I've been to. ![]() Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil, Brazil ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 MMmmm. I went to numerous Brazilian BBQ restaurants, called churrascarias, in Brazil and in particular Rio de Janeiro. Some were smaller and less touristy, but this is the only one I can remember the name of! Porcao I believe means "big pig" and is a great name, as they serve you up so many kinds of meat it is unbelievable. The buffet of seafood, salads and other food is huge. Every single item was delicious. We had eaten so much meat - beef, chicken, all sorts of kinds, served by waiters with huge swords at your table - that we almost forgot to check out the rest of the food. This is a chain churrascaria, and not cheap. It is in a nice setting, smart casual I would say. Don't eat anything all day if you plan to go here! Overall my second favourite churrascaria in Rio, I just don't remember the name of the other one. Go to a Brazilian steakhouse when in Rio! Jason B. commented... Added Oct 28, 2008 Porcao is expensive but I visit this place every time I go to Brazil! Heather N. commented... Added Oct 18, 2008 You very good for make information. Tzequi! ![]() Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 The fall / autumn colours here are beautiful as the tree leaves change from green to bright yellow, orange and red. The hiking trails to various ponds are geared to all different activity levels. Great place to enjoy some camping, we had deer hanging out right beside our campsite! ![]() Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 It is worth standing in line and going through security to take the Parliament tour. You get to see where the 'action' happens and roam the halls where so much Canadian history has been made! ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 Times Square, and walking along Broadway is a bright lights experience to the extreme at night time. During the day it is just as much sensory overload too. The people on the streets can be very entertaining to watch, be careful in the crowds, not because of pickpockets but because there are so many tourists, people stop everywhere, taking photos, you'll inevitably run into someone by accident who isn't paying attention. Any time of day or night, there seems to be a never ending stream of people around! ![]() San Francisco, California, United States ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 The sea lions are noisy and kind of funny to watch and listen to. Once you get bored of them, treat yourself to something tasty like Ghiradelli chocolates! ![]() San Francisco, California, United States ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 The 'ancient forest' at Muir Woods was really impressive to me because of the size of the trees. I haven't explored much of the west coast, so I wasn't used to seeing such huge trees, the redwoods were amazing. As a bonus I saw three deer within 5 minutes of heading out on one of the trails. Once you get away from the main parking area, you can enjoy the quiet peacefulness of the forest. Great spot so close to San Fran! ![]() Mississauga, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 This is the spot I head to for shopping, on the rare times I do head out for shopping. Aside from parking, which sucks, as it is always full, the mall itself is clean, with pretty much any shop I'll ever need. For foreigners, a couple of the more popular Canadian chain stores you can find here are Roots and RW & Co. ![]() Burlington, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 Spencer Smith has evolved nicely over the years, this is a great spot to stroll around by the lake. The ribfest here is the best, no doubts. This is also a great spot to head to for watching fireworks on Canada Day! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 I used to work nearby and going for lunch at the market is a real treat. Huge sandwiches, and personable market vendors serving the freshest ingredients. I try to pick up kebabs, seafood (HUGE shrimps) and steaks here whenever I can, because they're just so good - and prices are competitive. Virtually any kind of meat you can imagine - venison, ostrich, kangaroo...yum! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 Summertime is when to go. You can have a picnic, relax, enjoy the views of the Toronto skyline. There are some decent beaches for getting a tan, and volleyball and softball is available on the island too. There is also a frisbee (disc) golf course. Overall a perfect escape from downtown just minutes away for a weekend day trip! ![]() Mfuwe, Zambia ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 Wonderful place to stay in South Luangwa. There are some fancier lodges of course, but the chalet rooms here are clean and nice. The campsite area is basic, but right close to the river, so wildlife such as elephants, hippos or even lions can walk right through the area at night. The permanent tents are also quite nice and private. Armed guards are around to keep things safe if you need to walk around to more remote areas. ![]() Copan, Inland Honduras, Honduras ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 The ruins at Copan are very interesting for Mayan ruins, especially if you've been travelling south from Mexico. At Copan there are numerous detailed carvings and stellae different than what you'd see further north. The site is still being excavated, but the great ball court and main temple are pretty impressive. Interesting to walk around the outskirts and see parts of the ruins that are still overtaken by vegetation. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 The home of the Toronto Maple Leafs NHL hockey team, Toronto Raptors NBA basketball team and Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club in the NLL. As it is downtown, it is convenient to get to. It is also usually full of 'suits', so Toronto crowds can be quiet and lame compared to what one may expect or be used to in Europe, South America and elsewhere. Lacrosse games can get a bit wild and fun compared to basketball or hockey. The building itself looks like an airport hangar, and doesn't have any real defining characteristics to make it stand out from any other large arena. Despite this, there are usually enough excitable fans and alcoholic drinks around to make it a fun night for a sports event or a concert. Acoustics for concerts at the ACC are generally good for how big it is. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 I'm a meat eater, and generally make fun of vegetarians, but this is one rare spot that I enjoy eating at. The avocado sandwich is great. A bit pricey for what you get, but if you're into veggie / vegan food check it out. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 Kensington is a quirky, fun spot. traditional eateries mixed with packed bars and some fancy restaurants. Some things are cheap, some aren't, but it's fun to stroll around this pedestrian-friendly area, where thrift / vintage clothing stores rule. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 The main mall for downtown shopping in Toronto. If you need something standard go here, I can always find what I need. Some cool shops of course, but if you want chic, different or trendy head to Queen St West, Kensington Market or one of the other parts of Toronto with some character. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 A cozy spot kind of in an odd spot on Yonge St, but the attention to their menu, especially the cheese platters and the beer selection makes up for any inconvenience to get to. Not as expensive as some downtown spots. ![]() West Thumb, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 Old Faithful was an old bore. The anticipation of it unfortunately let me down. Huge crowds gather round, getting seats on benches 10, 20, 30 minutes before the estimated time of eruption. Meanwhile other geysers with more interesting compositions are going off higher and more frequently along the boardwalks beyond. Cehck it out, it is neat for how long it erupts, but other nearby geysers such as Castle Geyser (cool cone) and Grand Geyser (up to 200 foot eruptions) were more impressive. ![]() Copacabana, La Paz & Surrounding Region, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 The views from Isla del Sol are fantastic, and teh boat ride from Copacabana is pretty scenic. Lots of children on the island to ask for money or pose for a photo with an llama. The hike along the island to the top isn't tough, unless you haven't adjusted to the altitude yet, which can zap your energy fast! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 I'm not a shopper, but the Queen West has a friendly feel and cool shops that somehow lure me in too. Perfect on a sunny day. This is where the trendy shops are. Skip the Eaton Centre and go here for a real Toronto vibe. ![]() Puerto Villamil, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 Fun spot. I was lucky to have a little underwater camera and was surprised that you do, indeed, snorkel with sharks here. They are sleeping or resting in this area and you get up close and personal with them. Inquisitive sea lions splash around and check you out too. Super cool thing to do in the Galapagos. ![]() Puerto Villamil, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 The destination itself isn't the most exciting swimming / snorkelling spot unless there are some iguanas to share it with, but the boardwalk and pathway to get there is quite interesting. If you don't want to hit the beach but want to go for a swim, then go here. There is only one small platform to leave your belongings - so don't bring anything valuable. ![]() Puerto Villamil, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 I really enjoyed this lagoon as it was uncrowded and close to 'everywhere' in Puerto Villamil. The only problem was it was a bit littered with garbage. Good spot to get close to some flamingoes and other birdlife though. ![]() Puerto Villamil, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 Take a taxi ride or do a hike (about 7km) from town to get to the Wall of Tears. This interesting feature is made of huge lava rocks hand placed by prisoners half a century ago. Many prisoners died and couldn't handle the extreme harsh conditions they faced here, which is why it is said the wall was made of their tears. ![]() Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 Las Bachas and the Charles Darwin Research Station and the Highlands are the biggest attractions of Santa Cruz. Be sure to go see the 'wild' giant tortoises in the highlands, not just at the research station. ![]() Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 The biggest city on the main island where most people start their Galapagos journey after flying into the Galapagos. The city does have a couple of decent bars, some good restaurants and lots of shops for picking up some t-shirts or jewelry (lots of silver). If you have the time spend an extra day or two here before exploring the islands by boat. ![]() Vaughan, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 Always fun times at Canada's Wonderland. I prefer going in September or June though when it's not as crowded. If you like roller coasters, you'll love Wonderland! ![]() Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 Head out for a hike in the woods when you're near Ushuaia. Tierra del Fuego NP has some moderate trails not far from town (a shuttle can drop you off, pick you up). You'll most likely encounter only a few other hikers, great views of mountains and lakes, as well as plentiful wildlife such as woodpeckers and foxes. Some of the freshest air I've ever breathed! ![]() Isla de Ometepe, Southwestern Nicaragua, Nicaragua ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 I believe this is San Ramon waterfall, if my memory serves me right. That is the waterfall I hiked to on Ometepe Island at least. It is a challenging, mostly vertical hike, but not as tough as climbing to the top of the volcano! The reward of cooling down under the waterfall when you get there is well worth the trouble. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 The biggest complex on the island. These are some big Moai, not too far from the quarry of Rano Raraku. Best viewed in the morning hours. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 The only fully reconstructed Moai on the island, at least as much as archaeologists believe they would have originally looked. As this is close to the Tahai Complex, it is smart to get a knowledgeable guide to provide some insight and history into the area. Depending on time of day, it may be hard to get a good photo - later in the day is the best time to visit as the sunset here is very impressive. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 This was a valuable place to visit, and also a perfect spot to stop for a lunch break if you're out hiking. It is pretty simple however, just some rock circles with different plants. Great if you're in to plants instead of animals though. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 Unbelievable spot. I thought one hour would be enough to walk around and get bored of the Moai here, but you need at least 2 hours to explore both the inside and outside. You'll find some special Moai here, including the kneeling Moai Tukuturi and huge Moai that were too big to lift or move. Inside the crater, and along the crater rim you'll find horses hanging out, which make for a nice photo composition. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 Rano Kau will take your breath away. This crater high up on a ridge at the far south west tip of the island offers huge panoramic views. Photos don't do it justice, as this crater is huge. With the Pacific in the background, this is a great spot for a picnic or just enjoying the natural beauty of the island. ![]() Hanga Roa, Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 14, 2008 Orongo was a fascinating place to visit and get an appreciation of an ancient, almost forgotten culture. Little is known about the ancient beliefs of easrly inhabitants of Easter Island, and Orongo is one rare spot where you can appreciate how life must have been hundreds of years ago. The old houses and rock carvings are accesible and the views of Rano Kau crater are perfect. ![]() Boston, Massachusetts, United States ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Best MLB park I've been to, better than Yankee Stadium. The atmosphere inside and outside the stadium is superb. ![]() Lusaka, Lusaka Zambia, Zambia ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 The Luangwa Valley is very impressive. We visited South Lungwa and saw herds of elephants as well as gazelle and other animals crossing the Luangwa river. Saw numerous species in the Luangwa valley (South Luagwa) that we did not see in Tanzania, Botswana, Kenya or anywhere else, including cobra and bush babies for smaller animals. The only thing I did not like was that hunting is permitted in the more northern parts of the valley and we ran into some people who had no respect for the wildlife. (Not because they were hunters, but because they teased the animals such as Elephants.) ![]() Mfuwe, Zambia ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 South Luangwa is a wildlife paradise. Camping there is a thrill - literally, as you may have Elephants or Hippos or other big creatures wandering past your tent while you sleep. The animals there are also different species than further north. An example being the Zebra and Giraffe in Luangwa are different (and look different) than the ones in the Serengeti. Access to the park is difficult, if not impossible, during the rainy season due to poor roads. ![]() San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 One of the Tortoise breeding sites in the Galapagos. I found this one more impressive because of the hiking trails and pathways around the research / breeding centre. There were not many babies when I went, but some nice big guys roaming around amongst the trees. I'd rank it better than the Darwin station on Santa Cruz or Isabela, with Isabela a close second. ![]() Puerto Villamil, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Said to be the second largest volcanic crater of it's kind in the world, after only Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania. Take a horse ride up the side and then hike around the edges for some pretty cool views of Isabela island. ![]() Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 A sleepy town compared to the otehr inhasbited islands. best beach in the Galapagos! Fun to watch the blue footed boobies fish and marien iguanas walk / swim by. Isabela island is the only spot you're 'free' to walk around in the Galapagos....so spend some time here. ![]() Ambalavao Andrefana, Eastern Madagascar, Madagascar ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 I rank this as the second most impressive park in Madagascar, after Ranomafana. It is more isolated, meaning fewer visitors, although not too far from Ambalavao. The hiking up to waterfalls and some of the highest peaks in all of Madagascar are challenging, and steep at times, but worth the 360 pano views when you get to the top! The park includes three distinct ecosystems, and at the higher elevations it can get very cold at night - close to freezing, something you won't experience at virtually any other park on the island. ![]() San Francisco, California, United States ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 No matter when you see it or cross over it - night or day, this is one cool looking bridge in a perfect setting! ![]() Seoul, Soul-t'ukpyolsi Province, South Korea ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 I lived in the Insadong area and think it is a vibrant, fun part of Seoul with plenty of traditional shops and restaurants nearby. Not the typical tourist trap / hotel area...although you are still only a 5 minute away from bright lights and western chain restaurants, if you're so inclined. Check it out! ![]() Roatan, Carribean Honduras, Honduras ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 While geared to divers, you may want to visit if you're on Roatan and want to go snorkel or swim with Dolphins. The resort is great, with cabanas on small islands, very private! ![]() Fortuna, Central Valley & Highlands, Costa Rica ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 The attraction of Arenal is the ability to see the laval flwos at night and eruptions. Unfortunately I visited during the wrong season when it was overcast and cloudy for many days. We could not even see the volcano at all from La Fortuna. Only one morning as I woke up I caught a glimpse. So just a lesson learned...the volcano isn't always easily visible. I'll have to return one day. ![]() Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Everyone must stop by the Byward Market when in Ottawa. It's centrally located in the middle of a cross section of busy streets. Inside the market there are chocolate, pasty and mustard shops, along with other fresh fruits and veggies. Some nice sandwich and lunch spots too. Wander outside the market and head one block in almost any direction and you're surrounded by shops and restaurants. The best Beaver Tail stall is near the Byward Market. ![]() Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 I love heading to Ottawa in the Winter and skating or even just walking along the Rideau Canal. Everyone seems to be smiling and happy, and the beaver tails and other snack shops serving up hot beverages are handy for when you get cold. ![]() Copenhagen, Hovedstaden Region, Denmark ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 The Little Mermaid / Den Lille Havfrue is kind of a must-see attraction if you're in Copenhagen. I took the canal / boat ride to see it, which was fun as you also go by many other attractions, and it serves as a nice introduction to the city. It was crowded when we went by though! So many people had walked up to it on land that you couldn't get a photo from the boat. The statue is small, and a bit of a let down, but worth a quick visit if you have free time. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 One of my favourite zoos I've ever been to. The animals seem to have plenty of room and rarely exhibit signs of stress (i.e. pacing, lethargy) that you may see at other zoos. This also means there is a lot of walking around to visit the different 'regions' of the world, as that is how animals are segregated. If you have young children look up their camping nights, where you can actually camp at the zoo and hear lions at night and feed wolves in the morning! ![]() Phnom Penh, Cambodia ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Impressive architecture and nice gardens and grounds to walk around. Plenty of photo opportunities. The Silver Pagoda is home to some very attractive, jeweled Buddha statues. ![]() United States ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 THE perfect spot for views of Monument Valley and watching the sun set. Great restaurant serving traditional Navajo meals and regular fare too. The on-site John Wayne Museum is interesting as well. ![]() Cody, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Perfect spot for hanging out in Cody. The place loosk brand new and rooms were perfectly clean. Best beds, friendly surroundings and staff were extremely helpful. It's on the edge of town, out by the rodeo, but Cody is so small you can get around easily. Didn't see any other places that looked as good. Nice to have your own 'cabin' instead of staying in a hotel too. ![]() New York, New York, United States ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 This was a great park, with a great history. Not quite as amazing as visiting Fenway Park, but pretty close. The crowd is always in to it, which makes for a fun time. Prices were surprisingly not over the top. The flaws were that it was nearly impossible to get to Monument Park, because they cut off the line shortly before gates open and there was next to no space in the concourse areas. Hopefully new Yankee Stadium will be a little more spacious. ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 The first part of nocturnal animals isn't much when you walk in, because - they're nocturnal! But the main aviary is huge. You won't believe how many birds are flying around and how colourful they are, or the strange sounds they make. This is a nice spot for taking photographs and getting up close to birds you may not even see in a jungle or rainforest. The Java House was a neat highlight as well. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Dubbed the ROM, this is the best, most interesting, museum in Toronto. They always have a special theme going on with different exhibits. The museum has undergone a massive restoration in recent years and is a wonderful place to visit in Toronto. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Perhaps if you have a sit down dinner the food is better, or they've improved since I was there over a year ago. We had a special banquet here and the food was basic and nothing special. I'm sure they were catering to a budget, but it wasn't anything to talk about. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 13, 2008 Great little spot. No patio for summer, but pefect for winter or cooler weather. Nice, unassuming crowd. The beer is always fresh and they have the best selection of local craft brews. The food is tasty too - buffalo burger anyone? ![]() Toliara, Southern Madagascar, Madagascar ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Perhaps the most famous park in Madagascar because it is relativel easy to get to from the main highway. The landscape here first appears dry and harsh with noting but a few sparse trees and shrubs, like the Elephant Foot plant, which grows so slow, one the size of a soccer ball may bee hundreds of years old! After getting in to the park, you have some options to head to more dense vegetation in search of lemurs and chameleons and other plants or animals. The hiking here is relatively easy, if you're on a short hike, bu heading in to the canyons you need to be prepared as the heat can quicky get you sweating. This park is BIG and while most visitors do 1/2 day hikes, you can arrange multi-day hikes of 4-5 days if you want to see more of the park. One popular highlight is swimming at the 'piscine naturelle' a nice little oasis surrounded by lush fern like plants. A very neat park with a variety of landscapes and animals. ![]() Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Very cool experience! Watching the tides at the Bay of Fundy is kind of eery, as it proves to you how strong the forces of nature can be. You can wake up to waves lapping along the shores nearby, then return in the evening and not even be able to see the water, the tides are that big! Head to Hopewell Rocks for a cool experience with the tides. ![]() United States ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Made famous in John Wayne movies, the drive into Monument Valley is like heading into a different world. The rock formations and desertscape is hard to describe without seeing it yourself. A horse ride with the Navajo is one great way to see part of the park. As this is Navajo Nation, they're the only ones who can legally guide you and take you into certain parts of the park. ![]() Teton Village, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Grand Teton National Park provides the most stunning setting for a wildlife / nature experience in Wyoming. Yellowstone may get the glory, but the scenery here is even better. You'll see bison and deer and elk and bears (grizzlies even in the northern part of the park!) Jenny Lake is reathtaking, and watching the sunrise / sunset on the Teton mountains is magical. Top knotch park and destination. ![]() Cape Maclear, Malawi ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Lake Malawi is like an oasis in a country that has been devastated by droughts and floods in recent years. This is the perfect spot to stop, cool down and chill out on any longer journey across east Africa. Relax on the beach, mingle with locals, rent a sailboat and enjoy the scenery. There are some great wood carvings being sold by families who live in the villages along the lake. Grab the local Kuche Kuche beer instead of the Carlsberg! ![]() La Paz, La Paz & Surrounding Region, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Now this is what a market is meant to be! Ok, there are some normal stalls selling textiles and usual souvenir type items, but I think everyone goes here for the oddities - like dried llama fetuses. No, you don't eat them, supposedly you bury one under your house for good luck. ![]() Fort Collins, Colorado, United States ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Fot Collins is a haven for small breweries. Grab a bike and go on tour, with New Belgium being the top spot IMO. These guys produce damn tasty beers with funky names, and if you sign up for the tour, even better. It can get crowded inside like a huge picnic party, but that is half the fun. The best beer is La Folie, a limited edition, and the Mothership Wit is also great. Fat Tire is their most popular. What makes this brewery special is it's focus on the environment...and it's powered by wind! ![]() San Francisco, California, United States ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Vey interesting and worth a visit. The prison tour is neat, as you can go along at your own pace with the audio tour. I liked walking around the outside the prison as well. ![]() Norway ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 This is one of the highlights along the Flam-Myrdal railway tour. A quite nice waterfall, especially if you are lucky to visit on a sunny day. I was more impressed by the rest of the natural surroundings on the railway route. ![]() Copenhagen, Hovedstaden Region, Denmark ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Beautiful surroundings and beautiful people...great spot to sit for some drinks and watch the locals and tourists walk by. ![]() San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 The ATM cave is perhaps the most interesting activity from nearby San Ignacio. If you don't mind getting wet, dirty and hanging out inside a cave with skeletons, this is perfect!! Having a good local guide to help tell about the history of the cave makes it even more worthwhile. ![]() Uyuni, Southern Altiplano, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 I loved the salt flats! The Salar de Uyuni experience is one of my top trvel highlights around the world. So many opportunities for wacky, fun photos because you're surrounded by white white white salt. Depending on the season, there may be a layer of water ove the salt which creates a mirror-like visual. Hire some jeeps in Uyuni and head out to the flats, you'll love it! Be warned though - bring sunglasses for the day time and a sleeping baf for night time! ![]() Phnom Penh, Cambodia ![]() Added Oct 12, 2008 Nice spot for a few drinks. Great views and perfect location. I wouldn' stay in this are, nor would I stick around for a full night of food at teh FCC, as tere are plenty of better / cheaper eating options around. Nice spot to experience though! ![]() Tanzania ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 The Gorge is an interesting side trip for those heading to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. It is worth visiting the museum to read about the history of this area and discovery of fossils by the Leakey's, but you don't get to 'see' much. Tourists are only able to look down into the valley from a viewing area and the famous early man footprints have been covered over for future peservation. Nice spot for a little quiet contemplation, trying to imagine what it would have been like 2.5 million years ago for the first humans who lived here! ![]() Arusha, Northeastern Tanzania, Tanzania ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 This is paradise for any wildlife and nature enthusiast. I don't think it is possible to go on too many game drives, you always see something different! If you think the TV shoes do justice for an Africna safari, you're wrong. Spotting a Leopard in a tree eating a fresh kill, being amazed at how quiet a herd of Elephants is, or hearing lions roar at night when you're in the middle of nowhere...these are experiences that not even the best HDTV can relay. WOW is the only way to sum it all up! ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 The views are amazing, especially if you head to the higher 'skypod' viewing deck. Go herre AFTER touring other parts of the city, to see if you can recognize anything below. The CN Tower now lights up at night, which is pretty cool too. ![]() Fianarantsoa, Eastern Madagascar, Madagascar ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 Ranomafana was a magical place. Day hikes have you going through dense, lush rainforest while chasing lemurs around. The size of some of the plants and sounds of the lemurs running through the trees is impossible to forget. But the biggest highlight here is the night hikes. Many parks in Madagascar are not accesible for night hikes, so this is special. There are so many nocturnal species, it is a different world at night. The tiny mouse lemurs and the elusive civet cats are two things you may spot at night, not to mention some massive, colourful moths. Don't skip this park if you head to Madagascar. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 Hanga Roa is teh heart of easter Island. The only city and place for ldogings, food, car rentals and services. There are nice food and souvenir markets and everyone seems to know eachother on the island! It is easy to walk around the city or rent a bike to get from place to place. One potential problem foreigners face is the lack of ATM machines. They rarely work with foreign bank cards, so if you run out of money you need to line up inside the bank to get a VISA advance. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 Exceelent beach at the far north of the island. You need to rent a car or take a taxi there. The sand is super fine and soft, and teh beach never gets overly corwded. Great clear water, and there are some Moai nearby too. Bring some water and food with you, even though some small food / snack stalls are there. For a more private experience, you can walk over to Ovahe beach. ![]() Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 The rock statues - Moai are found throughout the entire island. There are hundreds of them! The most famous groupings of them are on altars, or ahu's. All Moai face inland, away from the ocean, except the ones at Ahu Akivi. ![]() Jackson, Wyoming, United States ![]() Added Oct 11, 2008 This is a fun, cool little spot on the outskirts of Grand Teton National Park. If you're looking for somwhere to stay between Jackson and teton Village, I would try and find a spot in the Village. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 10, 2008 An amazing food and beer experience every time. This place fries, sautees, cooks, batters and marinades every meal in beer. They have a huge beer menu and were rated the best pulled pork sandwich in Toronto. Bar area is friendly and open. Dining area can be a bit loud if with a group, but is cozy. Only other issue for some may be price. It isn't cheap. Say $100 for 2 people dinner with a couple drinks each, so not overly expensive either. The Brussels mussels and lobster quesadillas are my top picks. ![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 10, 2008 This is one immense dome. UNtil you get down at field level you can't appreciate how huge it is. Catch a Toronto Blue Jays game, it is great fun and the cheapest sports ticket in Toronto. ![]() United States ![]() Added Oct 10, 2008 This was by far the best Xanterra accommodation I've stayed at in the US. Great, clean rooms, with friendly staff! Get one of the lodge cabins if you can, definitely worth being within walking distance to the Canyon rim to watch the sunrises and sunsets. This is the only real resort / lodge within the park. If you want something less expensive, camping is the way to go. The dining room does close by 10pm so be careful about missing dinner as there isn't much else around if you're out enjoying the scenery at night. ![]() Bryce Canyon, Utah, United States ![]() Added Oct 10, 2008 Stunning sunsets and sunrises. The trail along the rim is super easy and great to walk. Sunset point was ideal for sunset photos...get there about an hour before actual sunset 'time' though. For sunrise, Sunrise point is nice, bt not the #1 spot for photos. Head on out and find a different lookout along the rim if you're into photography. Hiking during midday is brutally hot, so use that time to eat, relax and maybe go look for prairie dogs...there are los of them across he main road from Bryce Canyon Lodge. ![]() Copenhagen, Hovedstaden Region, Denmark ![]() Added Oct 9, 2008 This is a fun spot in downtown Copenhagen, not far from the train station really. Perfect for kids! Don't expect huge, fancy rides like at parks in the US, this is old school, the way amusement parks should be...simple fun, with plenty of places to eat too.
![]() Livingstone, Southern Zambia, Zambia ![]() Added Oct 9, 2008 Amazing spot. The view as you walk along the pathways and see / hear / feel the "smoke that thunders" up close is breathtaking! The pathways are great, fun little markets nearby too o haggle for some wares. Go white water rafting here, the rapids are some of the best I've done anywere! I'd gie it a 5 star rating, but like Iguassu Falls slightly more. ![]() West Yellowstone, Montana, United States ![]() Added Oct 9, 2008 Yellowstone is a wildlife and natural wonder paradise. One one hand you've got geysers and hot springs worthy of a visit, and on the other you have some of the most accessible wildlife in all of North America. Now, don't be fooled about doing a 1-2 day quick trip here. This place is HUGE. I've been to many parks, and was glad I had 4 full days for my first trip. I just scraped the surface in terms of seeing geysers and hiking trails, but managed to drive the 'loops' for amazing wildlife spotting. The two best spots for potentially seeing the main draws - wolves and grizzlies, plus other wildlife are Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley. If you're heading to Lamar Valley, the Northeast Pass is a beautiful drive to Cooke City. Try to stay at Roosevelt if you want ot spend time in that area, it's quick access, with great food at the lodge. (Great is relative, as the food options are mediocre for the most part, as the accom and food is controlled by Xanterra). It can be crowded in the summer, but because it is so big, not a big deal. For a first visit, drive the loops and check out Old Faithful or Morning Glory or other geysers. IMO Old Faithful is not the most impressive, but it is famous. If you ahve longer, do some hiking and visit Lower/Upper Falls or Mt. Washburn. To enjoy it all, you definitely need to stay a week or longer! If camping, sites can book up fast, but even in summer you can usually snatch one up without a reservation at some less popular campsites such as Norris, but watch out for Bison at night, they roam free and are hard to see! The drive from Mammoth to Tower Falls is a great one too, and Mammoth Hot Springs is a great little town with Elk everywhere, it is surreal. Just remember that these animals are totally wild. Even though Bison are everywhere, they are fast and can be aggressive. People take this for granted every year and suffer the consequences. Head to the Tetons further south if you have time! ![]() Englewood, Colorado, United States ![]() Added Oct 9, 2008 Even worth a visit when no concert is on. I stopped by en-route back into Denver as it was suggested by friends to check it out. What a cool spot. Some nice hiking trails around to enjoy the "Red Rock" surroundings and experience the natural amphitheater. There are numerous multi-levels of parking too, if you want a quick view or aren't inclined to hike around. Even without a concert going on, inside there was an art show with people hawking their interesting wares, and the wall of game with pictures form past concerts is great. Extra tip - check the concert listings, as some events are free! I'll visit again one day to check out a concert and get the full experience. Jennifer H. commented... Added Oct 12, 2008 I'm originally from Colorado and I love Red Rocks. Great review! ![]() Potosi, Southern Altiplano, Bolivia ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 Let me start off by saying this is not for everyone. A trip to the Silver Mines of Cerro Rico in Potosi is viewed differently by many people. On one hand you're getting a glimpse of a harsh lifestyle that has sustained the local Bolivians for generations. On the other hand, as a tourist, you're possibly doing more harm than good turning the mines into an "attraction". A typical visit to the mine will have you stop at the miners market to pick up bags of cookies, cigarettes, cocoa leaves, dynamite, ammonium nitrate, and other explosives. You get decked out head to toe in colourful outfits and head on in, offerign a sacrifice to the local gods. Inside, you walk around, meet some workers and offer them your goodies. Cookies for the younger teenagers and explosives or cocoa leaves for the rest. Some parts you need to crawl on your hands and knees or flat on your stomach (all while heaving your bag of dynamite around!) Some workers have mined for silver all their lives and don't even speak Spanish or Quechua. For many it is a family business, where they may own an 'area' of the mountain instead of being part of the state controlled areas. This aspect gives many of them a sense of freedom, they are their own bosses, working as hard as they want...which is nice to see. The issue is really that there are no safety precautions in place. A collapse can happen at almost any time and the air quality can be deadly. You only get to visit the 'higher' tunnels closer to exists, where air quality is not as big an issue, deeper down, where they are drilling, they get paid much more, but we were told that life expectancy is only 4 years, although most people only 'sacrifice' themselves at that job for a few months or maybe 1 year. A real eye opener and jaw dropper. Consider it if you're not claustrophobic. ![]() Quito, Northern Highlands, Ecuador ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 This is a fantastic, yet small spot. It was PACKED when we went on Saturday. They have live Cuban music, which is great, from Thurs-Sat. We were stuffed but the food looked great too, so we just munched on some plantain chips. The best part is how lively the crowd gets. They hand out maracas and get everyone involved. Lots of fun! ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 One of my favourite 'chain' places. The vibe is ecclectic and fun. The food is always tasty - alligator bites anyone? A great mix of interesting food. Located across the street from the Niagara Fallsview Casino. ![]() Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 I've been to Niagara Falls countless times since I was little, and always bring my friends from around the world here. The horseshoe falls are amazing! It can get BUSY in summer, but winter is great too, when the ice adn snow are lit up at night. So many things to do, you never get bored, even if it is 100% for 'tourists'. ![]() Moab, Utah, United States ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 Thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Friendly bartenders and staff suggested some great beers (best in Utah!) and the food was tasty, with some spicy mixes to the standard pub fare. Good value for the money! ![]() Moab, Utah, United States ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 Nice park with plenty of campgrounds. Best alternative to Arches National Park for camping. The park itself should be visited by anyone heading to Arches or Moab or Canyonlands. The "Dead Horse Point" view is absolutely the best panorama in the area. I liked it more than Bryce Canyon and have heard numerous people prefer it over Grand canyon for photography as Grand Canyon can be 'too big'. Be careful driving after dark though. On my way back from Moab, the State Park road into Dead Horse had about 100 rabbits zipping across the very dark road. (Possible exaggeration, I lost count after 60, it was insane.) ![]() Moab, Utah, United States ![]() Added Oct 8, 2008 Excellent park with the most amazing Arches. You cna get a feel for it in one day, but 2-3 days is ideal to enjoy some of the hiking rails and more remote arches. Bring ltos of water any time you leave your car, even at sunset and sunrise. It is VERY dry. I made the mistake of taking no water on a short 30 minute hike. My keys fell out of my pocket 1/2 way through the hike, so when I got back to the car, they were gone. Ended up having to do the hike again, and was desperate for water by the end! (Only saw 1 other person the entire time I did that hike twice). Luckily someone did find the keys and waited for me at the parking lot. CAMPING - Devil's Garden fills up FAST in the summer so don't expect to show up and get a site. Get there early morning for a chance to snatch a site as someone is leaving if they're not fully reserved. Otherwise, not too far away is Dead Horse Point State Park - more great scenery and nice campsites too. HIKING - I suggest heading to Double Arch early in the morning and Delicate Arch for evening. Note the trail to Delicate Arch isn't long, but is pretty steep, so allow time before the sunset. The Windows trail is a nice trail to take. Charlene K. commented...
