It’s in the old town square and it’s one of the oldest in the world 1410. It’s divided into 3 parts: The astronomical part with the sky, sun and the moon; the walk of the Apostles; and four animated figures which represent: vanity, holding a mirror; a rich man holding a bag of gold; death holding a bell and a wise man. Below the clock there’s a calendar. Every hour people gather in front of the clock to see the procession of the disciples and death tolling the bell. Don’t miss the procession, it’s wonderful. ![]() Prague, Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic ![]() Added Sep 29, 2011 The Infant Jesus of Prague came from Spain. A Duchesse offered it to her daughter who married a Bohemian in 1556. The daughter gave it to the Carmelite priests who placed it in the church of Our Lady of Victory. After the war, in 1637 a priest found the statue in the corner of the church. The statue had broken arms. People from all over the world visit the church to pray or to ask for the birth of a child. The statue is small and it has a lot of outfits in different colors. On the second floor, there is a museum of the Infant’s outfits. Most of them are gifts from different countries. ![]() Vienna, Vienna State, Austria ![]() Added Sep 29, 2011 Schönbrunn Palace is where the Imperial family, The Habsburgs used to live. It was built in 1642 in the Baroque Style. It was modeled after Versailles with its gardens and mirror room. The Empress Maria Theresa used to live there with her 16 children, including Marie Antoinette of France. You’ll go around the palace and see the luxurious furniture, the walls decorated in gold, crystal chandeliers and ceramics heater. There are wonderful paintings that depict the family life. At night we attended a concert at the Orangery, one of the rooms of the palace where Mozart himself once played. The Shonbrunn Palace Orchestra was accompanied by a soprano and a ballet couple. It was awesome. ![]() Paris, Ile-de-France, France ![]() Added Feb 15, 2011 You go through narrow streets where you enjoy the view of artists who have taken the streets as their ateliers and who are ready to sketch out your face or sell you the best souvenir from the place. It is an artistic center where many famous artists, including Picasso, Monet and Van Goh, used to live there. The Sacre Coeur Cathedral(130 m high) standing majestically at the top of the hill. You see tourists sitting on the stairs and enjoying the nice view of Paris. A visit to Montmartre is a memorable place where you can find the romantic Paris with the beautiful stall of flowers, the French cuisine and the smell of the French bakeries and patisseries, the artistic side with the painters and the cabarets around. ![]() Japan ![]() Added Jan 5, 2011 A cruise along the Sumida River enables you to see the different kinds of bridges in Tokyo. You can have your breakfast on the veranda and enjoy a spectacular view. During the Tsunami the hotel was badly damaged. The visit is unforgettable since you go up a very interesting narrow street aligned with shops on both sides. You can find very nice souvenirs, but the prices are pretty expensive. After a joyful walk you arrive to the temple which is perched up a hill. You can stand on its veranda and enjoy a magnificent view of the city. The temple is known for its waterfall which has a curing properties. ![]() Japan ![]() Added Dec 22, 2010 Sanjūsangen-dō is a Buddhist Temple. The temple has 33 columns; 33 is a lucky number in Buddhism because a person can reincarnate into 33 different ways. It is famous for the 1000 life sized statues that surround a big statue. The statues are made of Japanese cypress and they are placed in 10 rows and 50 columns. It's huge with 6 gates; a gate was just used by the imperial family and their guests. The Palace is divided into several buildings: waiting room, ceremony room and the room where the enthronement used to take place. Outside of this building there is a cherry tree (which is the national symbol of Japan) and a lemon tree (which is a symbol of good luck) on both sides. It was built during the reign of Emperor Shomu. In the 8th C there were a lot of diseases, so the emperor built this temple to heal and save people. At the entrance you can see deers roaming freely (deers are considered as god's messengers). There is a huge Bell that with a sign that says: "Let all nuclear arms and wars be gone, and the nations live in peace! May it rings to all corners of the world to meet the ears of every man, for in it throb and palpitate the hearts of its peace - loving donors.Step forward and toll this bell for peace!" there's also a tomb where you can read : "Let all the souls rest here in peace for we shall not repeat the evil." Besides, there's the children's peace monument and the chamber of commerce building, the sole thing that remained after the bomb. ![]() Nikko, Kantō Region, Japan ![]() Added Nov 19, 2010 It is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Leyasu, one of the best known Shoguns who was able to unify Japan and to protect it against invasions. Peace reigned during his period. This shrine is a world heritage and it is best known for its gate "The Yomeion Gate" with its 500 carvings. Inside there's a 3-storey pagoda and it's a mixture of Buddhism and Shintoism. There's a stable with 3 horses, which are given as a gift from Newsy land. Above the stable there are carvings that depict monkeys' life. The shrine is awesome with its diversity and luxurious carvings ![]() Fuji, Chūbu Region, Japan ![]() Added Nov 18, 2010 I didn't have the opportunity to climb Fuji Mountain but we were in Hakone and we just stopped to have a look at it. I used to hear that Fuji Mountain is shy, but I didn't believe that till I visited Japan. The mountain was hidden behind the clouds and we waited for a long time to just have a look at its top. You can see photos and objects that belonged to the victims. There are also articles and newspapers that let you understand why the bomb was thrown on Hiroshima. Besides, you can see the dome of the chamber of commerce, the only thing that remained after the bomb. Hiroshima Museum is a call for Peace and Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. During my whole visit to Japan I only drank bottled water. But after the visit I felt my throat tight and I drank from a tap nearby. Do you think I'll survive the radiations !!!! ![]() Japan ![]() Added Oct 26, 2010 Miyajima is a sacred island for both Buddhists and Shintos. Only 2000 persons live on this island. Upon landing there you’ll be surprised by the orange Itsukushima shrine which stands majestically amid water. The shrine is 16m high. Deers, which are considered as sacred messengers of god in Shintoism, wander freely on the island. It’s called the floating shrine because you can see long corridors supported by wood pillars above the sea. It was done to defend the Kyoto Imperial Palace and to serve as an official residence for visiting shoguns. As you arrive, you take off your shoes and walk along the Nightingale floor. The squeaking sound of the floor was used as a warning sign if somebody tried to sneak. You can see many chambers with statues of shoguns and warriors. This breathtaking pavilion was built by Yoshimitsu in the 14th C. Yoshimitsu was the 3rd Shogun of Ashikaga. He abdicated the throne in 1394. He was a successful trader who used to import goods from China. After his death the palace was turned into a temple. The palace consists of 3 floors with three different types of architecture. The palace was renewed and covered with 200,000 sheets of gold. These gold leaves are so thin that they only weigh 20kg. It’s one of the biggest cathedrals in the world; it can hold up to 40,000 persons. There are 3400 statues carved out of marbles, copper… The exterior is like crochet embroidery. Inside you can see huge decorated windows, great pillars and statues. Besides, you can see the nails that were used to crucify Jesus Christ. You'll drink the juice and then they'll peel it to you. Then, they show you how they prepare coconut oil, cocnut chips, dried coconut, coconut cream . It covers an area of 218,000 square meter and it's surrounded by 1900 meter wall length. You will be bewildered by the huge statues, decorted doors, golden domes, Bonzai trees, temples, Budha statues. There are different shows that depicts life in Thailand. There are also acrobats that wear shiny clothes and fly in the air as stars. When you leave you feel bewildered by what you have seen. There's also a magnificant huge restaurant where you can enjoy a very rich buffet. The music shop is important because it's illegal to sell Thai Cds on stalls. There is a monkey show, sea lion show, elephant show, dolphin show and star war show. You see animals in cages and you can even feed small tigers with a bottle of milk. Then you can go by car to see some wild animals in the wilderness (lions, deers, bears, tigers, zebras, giraffes...). We went by boat and we wore life jacket. The sea was rough and it started raining. When we arrived, we were surprised to see a rock (20m) standing majestically amid the water, the view is wonderful. The journey takes 20mn. When you arrive, you’ll be surprised by the view of vendors, especially women, selling their goods on the boat: fruit, fried fish, hats, souvenirs. You can buy tropical fruit ready peeled. I tasted fruit that I’ve never seen before (Mangosteen, Durian, Rambutan, Dragon fruit, Longon) and they were tasty. We went by Jeeps with guides through a dense forest. The trees are huge and some of them resemble the trees that Tarzan used to climb; they have long ropes that descend from them. (Beforehand, I used to think that Tarzan used ropes). Besides, the spectacular trees, you see a lot of birds and even eagles. Suddenly, the narrow alleys opened into a wide plain with very light green grass and lakes. In one lake, there were a lot of white pelicans. We saw a family of elephants wandering lazily in the wilderness I thought that we just came to see those elephants. Then, we arrived at a spot where we saw at least 200 elephants grazing and drinking from the lake. We weren’t allowed to leave the jeeps for the elephants are wild and they may attack people. ![]() Holy See (Vatican City) ![]() Added Jun 25, 2009 Sistine Chapel is a piece of art from the Renaissance. Michelangelo’s prominent pieces of art are seen there. It’s smaller than you expect but its paintings are dazzling and beyond imagination. The portraits are lifelike and breathe life. As far as I’m concerned I stood mesmerized in front of the Last Judgment. Before leaving you can buy the best dairy products and beehive honey that you have ever tasted. When you see the monastery you wonder how this place is thrown into the valley and how they were able to build it. St Antonio- Isaiah monastery is still a centre of pilgrimage and prayer. Upstairs you can see equipment used in the sea and skeletons of whales and other large sea animals. At the roof, there’s a terrace café with a marvelous view of Monaco . There’s also a souvenir shop. It was the outpost resistant line of Juyang Pass , and the important defending construction of the Great Wall.
