I graduated university back in Aug 2007 with a degree in English/writing, and I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with my newly earned college education. I used to fear the unknown, but I have learned to embrace it. I don’t really know what I want to do with my life, but I’m ok with that. I know my passions, and I am beginning to figure out my strengths and weakness so I figure the rest will eventually fall into place. My number one passion—being thrown out of everything I know while exploring, living, breathing, eating, and just being in another culture. I have incurably itchy feet that started when I was a little girl. Though I never actually left the country until I was a teenager, my grandparents owned a travel agency so I grew up traveling with them through their pictures and stories. I credit them for giving me my travelitis, as I like to call it :) I’ve spent a week in sunny Fiji, a month in Australia visiting relatives, and studied abroad in Stirling, Scotland for a semester. While in Scotland I was able to visit much of Western Europe. I also had the opportunity of a lifetime when I traveled to Antarctica, Argentina, and Chile for a literature class with my university, and took a Spanish course abroad in Leon, Spain where I lived with a host family. My case of travelitis is quite serious, and I have the loans to prove it ;) This brings me to the present. I am currently living back in my hometown in Montana saving for my next big adventure—volunteering abroad. In August, I am off to Eastern Europe for a few weeks before heading to Bangalore, India were I will be volunteering at an amazing school for three months. I'll then spend the month of December exploring Northern India. Can't wait:) Travel ScorecardCountries See cities Map Loading! There are three locations, but I love Fremont the most because of the floor seating. People are asked to take their shoes off then you sit on cushions around a small table. The food is orgasmic....yes, its that good. At least I think so. If you love Thai food, Jai Thai is for you! Yum yum! ![]() Kirkwall, Scotland, United Kingdom ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 A great place to visit for both whisky connoisseurs and those (like me) who know absolutely nothing about it. You get a tour of the distillery, learn about how their whisky is made, and are given a sample or two. Even a none-whisky drinker such as myself actually enjoyed my samples after hearing about the process of how it was made. Guides are friendly, knowledgeably, and love their whisky:) ![]() Anne G. commented... Added Nov 1, 2008 Just keep writing, just keep writing, I`ll keep reading. :) ![]() Durness, Scotland, United Kingdom ![]() Added Oct 30, 2008 Smoo cave is worth a visit, though I'll warn you that the actual cave itself isn't horribly impressive--as in no impressive stalagtites or stalagmites. What is worth it is that you enter deep into the cave via raft on an underground river wearing hardhats...good times. You float into an open area where a waterfall pours water into the underground river then you exit the raft, following a stream of water to the end of the cave where there is a scary, seriously deep pool. The opening of the cave is pretty awesome as well....it is the largest opening of a limestone cave in Britian. If you are in the area, Smoo is worth a visit but I wouldn't travel to the area just to visit the cave. Oh, and the Smoo rest area has earned the best Loo award numerous years.. Whoo hoo! ![]() Orkney Islands, Scotland, United Kingdom ![]() Added Oct 29, 2008 One of the more unique sites that I have ever been too. The Tomb of the Eagles is a neolithic chamber that containing the remains of nearly 16,000 people and over 700 birds. The Orkney's used to be home to a giant eagle and the ancient people would dispose of their dead by placing them on the sea cliffs where the eagles could pick the bones clean. Then the bones were put in the tomb (slightly creepy yes, but you have to admitt its efficient....). The tomb was discovered back in the 50's by a farmer who began excavations himself. Today, visters dress is head to toe rain gear (its a bit of a walk to the site and usually it's quite rainy and muddy) The gear is provided to you. You are then able to actually enter the tomb using a little skateboard type contraption (clastrophobic people may find this a bit of a challenge...) There is also a really nice visiter center where you learn a bit of history about the people who used to live in the area. This was one of the more memorable sites that I visited while on the Orkneys. ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 I love this bar!! A warning--this place is for real connoisseurs only serving import brews, meeds, lambics, belgians, and the like. The selection is crazy. I've been there more times then I can count and haven't ever repeated my beer selection (they have a menu!). I usually just point to a random beer in their ginormous beer fridge (warning: I've spent upwards of $15 on one beer doing this...it was an amazing and strong beer but if you are on a budget, ask for a price). Uber is small, a pub with a coffee shop atmosphere, and it doesn't accommadate more then one large group. The best place in the house is a large round table with a fire pit in the middle of the room. If you are an adventurous drinker, this place is for you:) ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 24, 2008 Need a little reflection or meditation time while in ![]() Melbourne, Victoria, Australia ![]() Added Oct 23, 2008 Queen ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 23, 2008 I love the Fremont troll! He is one place I always bring people who visit me in Seattle as he's famous but not always clumped in with the most famous Seattle attractions (think Pikes Place, Space Needle, etc). Fremont itself is a great place to spend an afternoon in Seattle. It has lots of fun places to eat, shops and boutiques, and oozes in Seattle charm. Sunday Fremont hosts one of the best markets in Seattle. Come down for lunch, visit the troll, and do a bit of shopping. Perfecto! ![]() Doune, Scotland, United Kingdom ![]() Added Oct 23, 2008 One of my favorite little castles in Scotland. I've been twice and both times there were weddings taking place--absolutly fairytale beautiful. The castle hasn't been redone, fixed up, or made to look like it once would have so it lets the visiter use their imagination which I prefer. You can wonder throughout the castle and the grounds. This castle is most popular for its appearance in the amazingly funny Monty Python and the Holy grail (think coconuts:)) You can take the bus from Stirling to Callander, getting off at Doune (at least this is how I got there a few years ago. Ask the people at the bus station and they will be able to stir you to the right bus) ![]() Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 So brilliant I've been there twice and nearly peed myself both times! Mary King's is one of many closes hidden beneath the current streets of ![]() Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 The Last Drop is one of my favorite pubs in Edinburgh. I love its nitty, gritty history as well as its cozy pub atmosphere. I've met many interesting people each time I stop in for a pint--locals and travelers alike. It has good pub food (last time I was there it was the only place to make a decent plate of nachos...Scotland doesn't do Mexican food...) Its always packed on the weekends so good luck getting a seat Friday or Saturday night but prepare for some crazy fun:) ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 Revolutions is my favorite coffee house in ![]() Malaga, Andalucía Region, Spain ![]() Added Oct 22, 2008 This was by the far one of the best hostels that I have ever stayed at. The staff was so personal, welcoming and helpful. We felt more as if we were being welcomed into a family then a hostel. Location was amazing! Just a few steps away from the Alcazaba, only 10 minutes from the beach, and five minutes from the Picasso's Museum. Many yummy restraunts and fun shops are located nearby. Highly recommended! Book far in advance as this place is so amazing it fills up fast! I booked at hostelworld.com which is a fabulous website. ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 This is the place to go for a true Seattle experiance. It is one of those amazing little hole in the wall places that only locals know and love. Beth's is known for its greasy cruisine. That and the fact that it is open 24 hours makes it a premiere place to head after the bars have closed when those late night munchies hit. Beth's was also made famous when it appeared on the Travel Channel for its 12, yes 12 egg omelet. One of my favorite parts of Beth's is its decor--years of people's drawings taped to the white walls. Ask for a piece of paper and crayons to add your two cents to one of Seattle's best kept secrets:) Beth's is located near Green Lake, on highway 99 (also known as Aurora Ave). It's usually pretty busy, but weekends the line is always, always out the door. And a tip, they absolutly won't sit you unless your whole party is present. ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 17, 2008 This is my favorite pub in Seattle. We stumbled upon it when we moved to Green Lake and soon became regulars. Best night of the week by far is Wednesday for Quiz Night. Come for a few pints and maybe win a little cash (if you are good at random trivia that is) Warning, though it starts at 8:30, it's extremly popular and most nights all the tables are taken and more then a few teams are left standing or crowded around the pool table. Come early if you want a seat. They have a great selection of beers and cocktails, and they throw some killer parties. They are also the place to watc sports--Rugby, Cricket, and Football (soccer) are always playing on one of their many screens. Check their website for specific game days. Foods not to bad either...I recommend the cheese toastie! yum yum:) ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 Almost everyone that visits Summer season: April-November 10-5 Winter season: Nov-April 10-4 ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 I lived one block from Green Lake, and it was one of my favorite places in Seattle. It has a 2.8 mile paved loop around the lake which is perfect for walking, running, biking, skate boarding, etc. There are paddle boats and kayaks for rent as well as a nice swimming area complete with sandy beach. During the summer, there are vendors selling treats like hot dogs and snow cones. All around the lake there are great grassy areas for sunbathing, frisbee, or picnics. Other facilities include tennis courts, basketball courts, play ground, fishing, children's wading pool, soccer fields, and a little golf course. The trail is great for people watching (I once saw a lady out "walking" her cat in a man-made buggy), but the path can get quite busy especially during the summer months. Serious runners often stick to the unpaved trail that runs near the road, not right by the lake. Spring is fun because of all the wildlife (baby ducks!) and there is a log famous for sunbathing turtles (I once counted over thirty). It is a great escape in the middle of the big city :) ![]() Seattle, Washington, United States ![]() Added Oct 16, 2008 The Melting Pot can be a bit expensive if you go and get a full meal--cheese, meats, and desert. Great date place though...fun and intimate atmosphere. However, they have an absolutely amazing happy hour. You can get a pot of cheese for under $10, and each pot will easily feed three people. Happy hour runs ![]() Barcelona, Catalonia Region, Spain ![]() Added Oct 15, 2008 Cathedrals are by far one of my favorite things to visit when in other counties. They simply boggle my mind with their massive size and yet unbelievable detail. I’ve seen some amazing Cathedrals such as Saint Peter’s Basilica in Laura M. commented...
