A simple glance at the facade of the cathedral is worth the trip: it is an ensemble of geometric design in green, white and pink marbles. Climb to the top of the cupola to have a view of Firenze
It is difficult to associate this refine magnificent monument with its usage: it was built to expose barbaric entertainment (gladiators, fights between slaves and lions, sacrifices of Christians)…
One option is to climb early in the morning to avoid mid-day sun; another option, favored by locals, is to climb to the refuge mid-afternoon, to enjoy a cheese fondue (15 Euros), and to sleep there (you get matress and blanketsfor 10 euros-reservations necessary as the refuge can only host 76 persons). Then the real treat is to wake up before 4 am, climb the last 100 m (15 to 30 mn) and experience the sun rise on Lac Léman, which you see from one end (Geneva) to the other (Villeneuve). In addition, you have a view of the entire massif du Mont Blanc… Absolutely stunning!
Try to go up there later on a nice day and plan to see the sunset and some night lights. If lucky and the sky dome (Rogers Center) is open you will see a baseball game, some 500 m below you!
Pont du Gard is impressive, magestic; it attracts crowds... so try not to visit it in July or August. Choose a nice day, bring a picnique, books, swimming suits and enjoy an outdoor day with the Pont in the background. Ask locals about accessing it from the side opposed to the parking lot , you'll have a 15 to 20 minute walk on a path in Garrigue (combinaison of bushes, trees and shrubs typical of the mediterraneen bassin)
